Thank you Dr Beck. Your teachings are such a blessing; and so educational. It's one thing seeing the Holy Land on paper and another, living a panoramic sensation of the events with your eyes and heart.

8:20 In many ways we are all people of the Shephelath, destined to face spiritual challenges in our own meeting places. Will we imitate David by putting our faith in God? Trusting that He has uniquely prepared us and will equip us? Or will we hold back in fear like Saul? All of us have influence and where we place our trust affects those around us. It will either move them away from God or toward Him.

It's amazing that David was so good with a sling that he could hit Goliath right in the forehead from so far away.

Nicely done. Factual. David's aim must have been very good because Goliath was much taller than him. The shepherd boy was accustomed to dealing with animals but they are not upright, except maybe a bear.

It makes much more sense that David used a Shepard's staff sling , check it out .. This does not detract from the significance of the event, it is just more truthful.

What is ironic is that Saul's tribe of Benjamin was adept at doing what David from the tribe of Judah did in defeating Goliath. [See Judges 20:16 "Out of all these people (Benjamin) 700 choice men were left-handed; each one could sling a stone at a hair and not miss."] Someone from Benjamin, Saul in particular, as he was king, should have taken on the giant Goliath.

I find it interesting to keep in mind that any army AND the opposition are both simultaneously relying upon the very same ONE God for victory .. yet, obviously .. both will not be victorious.
@bedigeneyingu16922 жыл бұрын
Relying on God has to be intentional, relational, reverent, which I don't think would describe idolatrous armies which returned to thank their idols for victory eg the Philistines who took the ark of God and placed it the temple of Dagon and God struck Dagon and its worshipers. 1Samuel 5:1-12

Imagine David using a rock about the size of a baseball and traveling at about 100 mph, like a modern day pitcher. Yes that could kill someone, especially if it struck you in the head.

No offence but...This video of sling use does not show the true potential at all. Used properly the sling is almost as powerful as a musket! Lethal!

Great video. Why does he pronounce it "Philistins"?

Other experts I've studied have described the rock as being about the size of a man's palm....not as small as what you used.
