Your mom’s home is beautiful. You grew up across the LI Sound from where I grew up in Cold Spring Harbor NY. Your photos made me homesick. Yes the price of food has increased dramatically in the US, but as you said we have ice and air conditioning and window screens all of which we take for granted. I’m so happy you are loving your life in France. The drone video over the patch quilt of fields was magical. You are a great storyteller, photographer, narrator, cook and decorator. You definitely have an artistic eye and I look forward to your videos every week. ❤

I live in New Zealand, having moved here thirty years ago. Recently, I headed back to Canada for a 3 week family visit. It was wonderful and heartwarming - and also quite unsettling to see how different my country of birth has become. The amount of construction of new infrastructure - from roads to roundabouts to housing to retail complexes - was unexpected. Like you, Amanda, I was gobsmacked (good word, eh?) by the incredible variety of food available. Here, a supermarket may offer 2 varieties of a foodstuff where there would be 6 in Canada. Once I got over jet lag and my sister was convinced I wouldn’t get lost, I took myself to the neighbourhood Sobeys where I simply walked up and down each aisle, marvelling at the choices. Normally I squirrel away a can of pumpkin pie filling to make the kids eat the food of their native country at Thanksgiving, but this time, I didn’t buy anything, for fear that, if I started, I wouldn’t know where to stop. Thanks for sharing your trip back home.

I felt exactly the same when we went back to Canada five years after we moved to England years ago. But I have to remember food prices have gone up a lot but intcomes are still higher than here in England. I do miss window screens and air con sometimes though.

Hi, Amanda. As a fellow American, I have to say that I wished I lived in France. The food is much better there. Yes, we have choices but most are not good. I'm a scratch cook so I can keep costs down. The greed of the grocery stores and manufacturers is keeping the prices artificially high. Thank you for showing us your childhood home. It's lovely. I love your sense of humor! Hi to Lincoln! Hugs from Washington State.

I'm personally glad I moved to France. The biggest quality difference in raw foods I find is in the fruits. Especially with peaches. But, I love nearly everything about living in France. In some ways, it just feels more fair here, and I really like the people, culture, architecture, etc. I know it's not for everyone, but it sure is for me.

On prices in USA, I’m afraid to say yes everything has doubled in cost with no end in sight. My husband & I have been able to keep up but so many can’t and are falling behind fast. Homelessness is on a steep cure upward I’m sorry to report. We see lots of them moving to Eugene, Oregon because of gentle winters. Thank you for sharing your interesting life in France. At 81 yrs. old I still dream of traveling all over France. Never give up a dream is my motto🥰Ruth PS loved your parents home! Beautiful curated collection of goodies & sweet four legged kiddos.

Corporate greed after the pandemic is the reason the price of food has doubled. There are too many choices of junk foods and too many additives. The nutritional value of food is not what it should be because of the genetic manipulation of crops. Even crops grown without pesticides have some contamination.

Fabulous video and I too was in awe watching the farmer go round and round what looked like giant broccoli. Had to rewind and watch the hydrangeas 3 times -just like my mom grew in NJ. I live in Florida and Publix grocery stores sell everything organic side by side other items and no where near that cost! A lot of weekly sales and buy one get one frees. We buy everything organic and sometimes stop by health Food store Chamberlains and it’s not those prices at all, as you showed in Whole Foods. After Covid, our total at the grocery store was about $20-30 more than before but we’re used to it now, and it’s not too bad.

Same! Im in Florida and enjoy shopping at Publix (Southeast chain). When I drop off my Amazon return at Whole Foods, I sometimes browse the store and walk out empty handed everytime - nothing in there that sparks any interest. Publix is just as good, priced lower and on every corner. That and Costco. I have relatives and friends that only shop at WF (different parts of US) and it always seems to fit in perfectly with their overall pretensious vibe. No offense to Amanda of course.

Let me think, Mystic Connecticut, Long Island, traffic, most expensive area of US other than CA! I pick France every time. The US has increased food items since Covid and it does not seem to get any better. A friend just came back from the Cape and milk is $10.00 in some stores. Summer tourism does have its price increases here. We live near the large Finger Lake Seneca and it is lovely, not crowded, wonderful colleges in our area. The US still has it's beautiful less crowded states. You just happen to have visited, as you know, the most congested. If the population in the US lives near NYC within a 2.5 hour drive, get ready for paying more for everything. We are fortunate that we are 4.5 hours away from a large metropolitan area. Loved seeing Mystic and the Conn. pictures. I love New England and lived in Vermont many years ago. Vermont is still lovely and not as crowded as Connecticut. Your family home was fun to see. Your mother's decor reminded me of a home that Andrew Wyeth lived in. Very simple white walls and less decor. Wonderful paintings and your young artistic talent was fun to view. Glad you came back for a stay and are safely home.

Thank you for another gentle video. Business often takes us to the USA and as exciting as it can be, we find it can also be quite manic. Crowds, over the top prices in restaurants, bars and food stores, honking horns, endless traffic, blasting music, rushing people and sadly many times, frightening items on the news media. It is always good to return home to our quiet corner of Normandie, where all is serenity, all is peace... until August when, during French vacation time, all hell breaks loose. 😂 Have you yet experienced the French on vacation? There is only so much partying one can take!

In SoCal prices change weekly and monthly. Interestingly enough during COVID it was illegal to practice price gouging. Now it's reported regularly on the nightly news. But yet that's all that is done. Report on high prices without explanation. Cheese, Eggs, Butter, Yogurt, Cereal (which boxes are getting thinner), pasta, sauces, rice, fruits, vegetables, juices. Every month vegetables are recalled for probable contamination to salmonella and listeria. There is no end in sight.

Amanda, yes, prices are outrages here as well. Almost 20 dollars for a watermelon. Forget good meat, too expensive. A small out round roast( one of the worst cuts of meat) 30 dollars for a roast the size of a small hand.😢 I lived in New Haven, Connecticut in the early 90's. It wasn't for me. I was a new grad nurse in neurosurgery step down recovery unit. We had no head nurse as no one wanted it. So whoever was senior nurse on duty had to do the job. I really liked the city but I loved Vermont more. Your family home is beautiful. The fields are enormous, and the farmer did an awesome job. The dogs were happy. I think the cats that are outdoors are lining up for their piece of Chateau spa! ❤

🥰Your family’s home in Connecticut is beautiful! I love the drone shots and music at the end!💖 I moved from Oregon to Switzerland 35 years ago and I still miss the things on your aforementioned list………except maybe the ice😅

I really enjoyed your video and your trip home. I have been through Mystic many times on my way home to Jersey from Maine or Rhode Island. Your Mom has a lovely home. Glad you had a safe trip home!

I’m glad you got to go home for a vacation. Yes we have too many choices in the grocery store. Just standing in front of the yogurt section makes me anxious and I can’t figure out which one to buy. I liked the drone footage of making hay.
