When I lived in Germany, Ochsenfurt, the lady that lived upstairs gave me a plate of beautiful cookies at Christmas. She didn't speak much English and I didn't speak much German but we communicated. That was many moons ago. Fond memory.

I grew up all over Germany in the 60's and 70's. My dad was in the army, so we moved often. We lived in Landstuhle, then Kitzingen where our land lady helped my mom perfect her German. Frau Schauerman gave my mom a bunch of spritz recipes. When my dad retired we were living outside of Heidelberg. We moved back to the states. When I was a teenager, I bought a typewriter and typed out the cookie recipes along with many others that my mom had accumulated while living in Germany. I have so many happy memories of eating the spritz. Last year I inherited her cookie press with it's manual. I promptly translated the recipes into English to add to my ongoing collection on my computer. I love watching your channel! I've learned so much from you.🤗

I use my mothers kifel and spritz cookie recipes for my holiday baking. Your baking and cooking recipes are also part of my heritage. I have been making these foods all my life. I am 80 now and my children and grandchild have no interest in keeping these traditional foods alive. When I am gone, the recipes will go also. I think most young people find traditional cooking from scratch too labor intensive and time consuming. There is a saying “when an old person dies, a library dies too”. So true. Really enjoying your channel. Thank you

Give them a gift of recipe book. Organize them and go to staples they can make booklets - one day they will want them. I wish I knew my grandmother and learned from them. ❤️

I loved watching you bake your family holiday recipes. How precious to continue baking the recipes your ancestors baked. My boys asked me to hand write all my recipes. So they can have them as they create their own families.

This is such a wonderful video. I feel warm and cozy after watching your videos. I love making homemade it’s true. You can go to the store and buy whatever you want these days but it’s not the same. You know what you’re eating when you make it yourself. It warms up the house. It’s a gift to yourself and to your family. Thank you so much for sharing. My children are grown and have all moved onto their own homes, but I still bake and send them care packages, and some of your recipes will be included this year.

Oh my I'm so happy to see that stollen! I tried it the first time when I worked with a gal from Germany about 20 years ago and she passed away shortly after I asked for her recipe so I never got it. I think of Inge often but more so at Christmas because she was so happy that we liked that treat.

I have a Germany friend. Her family recipes she tells me were verbally passed down. She has since written them from memory but bakes without them. She was visiting me and made her grandmother’s pound cake. Delicious! I will ask her about stollen next time she visits. Hearing your narrative reminds me of her.

Being in my 60s now, I’ve made Stollen with my Tante since I was a little kid and yes squirting the Almonds out f the peels was my favorite part! Except for eating it! Still is! Lol …Why don’t you make your own Marzipan? It’s so easy to do and less expensive than in the stores…just wondering as you seem to make everything else from scratch (ie. lemon peel)
