I can relate. My beautiful Mountain Aire’s step motor failed last June. I disassembled the failed motor and found stripped out cheap plastic gears. The motor was made in China, and probably from the same factory that produced your failed unit.. Overall Newmar build quality is excellent, but shame on them and the other manufacturers for using cheap offshore components. My coach just turned four years old and the list of failures is extensive. Off the top of my head that list includes multiple a/c start capacitors (Chinese), a charge bridge (Chinese), water pump (Mexico), two shower mixer valves (Taiwan), a shower hand-held wand (Chinese), a DEF level sensor failure (results in 5 mph max ‘limp mode’ until fixed; unsure it’s origin but I am sure not America) and a wire under the driver’s seat draped over a sharp seat cross member which cut through the wire’s insulation and caused multiple major problems as the wire intermittently shorted out. There have been more problems, and a few were covered when the warranty was in effect. Newmar customer service has been outstanding, so all problems were solvable one way or another. Contrast this with my no-frills 1993 Winnebago Brave which, beyond normal maintenance, needed a fuel pump. That’s it. Decade after decade its American-made components continued to work. A/c always blew cold, heater and hot water heater always hot, zero issues with its Chevy 454 motor and driveline (beyond the fuel pump). There is no escaping today’s component problems because, to my knowledge, all new/newer RVs use the same cheap offshore components. I am still a huge Newmar fan-it’s a magic carpet when everything is working. RVing is a ball and allows incredible travel experiences, but the reality is that there is a significant work/hassle/stress factor that accompanies the good times!

i can't argue with anything you discussed. If I could have paid another $25k to get a more solid rig, I would have. The breakdowns & cost is a major thing to consider when thinking about full time travel. We will be doing another cost video soon updating all our new costs and the new reality.

We know your pain of having issues on travel days! We were leaving Phoenix on the 4th of July stopped and had the coach washed at Avondale then went to get fuel, on the way to get fuel the tpms went off I knew what happened got to the fuel stop only lost about 30lbs of air got out and tightened the flow through sensor then got the compressor fired up blowed tire back up got fuel and went to go dump tanks at a free dump station it was locked up so we ate breakfast there and left! Then then four days later we stopped and got fuel the better half walked the dog and I pulled away from fuel island to pull over and my wife says Oh no the step cover went farther out than it has before and would not retract so we ate lunch then went to our destination before climbing out over the step cover to fix! Our ladder is in the "Roof Maintenance" section of our Amazon Store. We bought a 250lb rated Class 1 Professional Model. Your spec's look great, and our 12.5 foot is slightly too short if you are going on the roof alot. When using someone's YT channel Amazon Store, you ARE NOT restricted to only the items in that store. They can buy ANYTHING! You can activate a FRESH LINK off the channels website top banner dropdown menu or the KZbin Channel Amazon Icon on the lower left of the channel banner. A person has to do this EVERY TIME YOU START A “SHOPPING SESSION”, and should never bookmark a link. The link needs to be fresh to have a new tracking “cookie” associated with it. A person can end up buying toothpaste, a drill press, camera, 3D printer, or virtually anything. Any purchases would help support the channel of your choice with about 3%, and this is done without increasing the cost to you. Sue and I really appreciate the efforts folks are taking to help support the channel via their Amazon purchases!

Definitely get a dash cam for your rig, and even the car. The first one we had, we loved,….but that company only makes professional body cams now. It is in the car now, and we bought a SUPPER EXPENSIVE one for the rig to record out the front and rearward as we sit in the cab. It is the: NEXTBASE 622GW Dash Cam I used to have it in our Amazon Store, but I don’t like it enough to recommend it anymore after I used it for a year, and I took it out of the store. My advice is to do your internet research, and find the best one other than the 622GW. It was supposed to be the cat's pajamas,…………but we feel it isn’t worth the price. The Hero 8 will end up overheating in some wind applications, and with continuous charging the battery while its in the camera. I would get a purpose built unit.

Enjoyed your video. You don't know how many "familiar" things you touched on........now if you'd tell me how you get Sue to do those (many) jobs. A small suggestion. I was having trouble with the wipers on my Entegra (such a strong motor, you know) that I replaced my wipers with a smaller size. I went from a 42in. to a 36 and I never miss the smaller "sweep" and the wipers seem to move smoother.
@OurJourneyInMyles2 жыл бұрын
I literally just ordered smaller blades! Because of the giant saddle I have on my wiper arms, it looks like I only had two smaller choices. Either going from 36 to 32, or 36 to 26 inch. Sue and I marked of the sweep of the 26" and it looked that it would be just a little bit too small. I'm thinking 30" would have been the best. Ordered them from Walmart so I can return them if needed. I will have a full report to tell folks if that helped me as well.

Thanks for the tip. We are getting good at changing the code. This happened one other time!

FYI: Going forward please use the proper terminology, "Dumpster Diving" is no longer considered acceptable language, it is now referred to as "Refuse Reconnaissance", your cooperation is greatly appreciated. - Sanitation Engineers Union lol

SECURITY concern: hey, close to the end of the video you may have inadvertently shown the entry code to the door.

Thanks guys,........yes we saw that, and we did it another time as well. We just changed it again,.......it's easy to do once you know how!

Mark did you send your wife to Wife School ? My wife just hits me on the back of my head when I try to get her to do extra things for me. I will start demanding my wife to start watching your videos. She will then know what is expected of her after we pick up our motorhome Friday. If this does not work just to be safe I saw on your store where I could purchase a FeeFee but please put on tape that will not pull out what little hair I do have on the back side of my head. You Duh Man ! !

For us, becoming a "team" was part of the fun. It especially helps to make both of you ready to go out and have some adventure when one or the other isn't so worn out from doing all the chores! Good luck Jeff! Say hi to the wife from us!

@@OurJourneyInMyles O' yes and it will be a team effort for my wife and I both. Sometime I should keep my mouth shut before trying to cut up. I did not mean any harm what so every.

You mentioned a few times you are getting a new rig. Are you kidding or serious? :o)

We would love a new rig, but will never change what we have unless we win the lottery! We are already living check to check,...........with our savings as backup. We could not afford a payment,...........unless we had 450k subscribers like KYD!
