What a gem! Thank you for including some footage of the pretty neighborhood and charming town. I'm a little sad to know that the owner did all of the 'hard stuff', and won't get to see it through to the finish, but I imagine they have their reasons for selling. It will still be a lot of work, but anyone who buys it will be spared the stress of wondering if/when the roof will come down. Not even a window that needs restoring!

This house has some incredible intact details. That stairway, oh my goodness! And is that Morris wallpaper peeking out in the first room? (I'm swooning, and I bet the same pattern is still available.) That basement and foundation looks pristine! It's also on a nice corner lot. I sure hope someone gives this house the love it deserves. I completely agree that this is the best kind of project for someone just getting into rehabilitation. My house was in the same sort of shape -- new plumbing, new electrical, the HVAC was from 2000 and I wanted to add air conditioning anyway, so I splurged for a new furnace. The best part is that I can live here while I do small projects. (Though reglazing the 30 original 6 over 1 windows will not be a small project!) I'll have to leave for a few days when the spray foam insulation guys come, and also when I remodel the only full bathroom, but otherwise it's great to do one room at a time.
@magusl96282 жыл бұрын
No chance for a 2nd full bathroom before the only one available is restored? Just an idea, that you probably already thought of before, but just in case 😁 good luck with your project!
@ginacirelli15812 жыл бұрын
@@magusl9628 Oh, I really tried to make it work, but the house is just so small, especially upstairs (1200 sq ft including the basement/garage). It's going to be a tight squeeze to get a powder room into a closet space!

I grew up in a house with 12” thick plaster walls. My Dad used to joke that we could set off a bomb in one room and no one would hear it. Don’t know about that, but my sister and I were never asked to turn the music down. 😂
@vernareed26922 жыл бұрын
A friend of ours once told me houses like this are actually solid brick!! He said most houses today sold as brick are really just brick veneer,on the outside! But these 9-12" walls are the real deal I guess!! Same with rock houses. A house close to us had the foot wide,two feet long,4" thick rocks were laid flat, end to end, another one flat on top! Talk about quiet,& cool in the summer,warm in the winter!! They used a cast iron stove to heat with too! Window sills we're several inches wide/deep! The house was 70yo,& in a "holler", between hills all around,& close to hiway but when inside you'd think you were miles out in the country!!
@kailee56942 жыл бұрын
@@vernareed2692 Our house had been built in the late 1920’s. For a moving in gift, my Grandfather, a contractor, gave my parents a workman for a day. They wanted an inset medicine cabinet. My Mom said the man spent the entire day literally chiseling out the wall so the cabinet could be placed. He was the one who told her they were solid plaster. Nothing else on their “to do “ list got done since this first project took so long. Since this house was built in a north shore suburb of Chicago and had unbelievable, artistic workmanship through out, I doubt it was built with “at hand” materials. The sad part is that the last owners bought it to tear down. The previous owners had updated the entire house and it was in perfect shape, on an acre with space for expansion, if they wanted something larger. They just wanted the address with no appreciation for the actual house. 😢

According to info on Zillow, this one finally sold Feb 2024. I fell in love with this house and nearly went for a tour last summer. Im so happy someone purchased it, since it really sounds like the previous owner really didn't want to part with it unless someone really wanted to take on the project and not just tear it down. There are so many lovely old houses in need of revival in this town (and affordable), ill probably be back looking at others and cant wait to see this beautiful home preseved. ❤
