It's so unassuming from the front! You think it's small cottage-like house, but it just sprawls! I love the house, but that curved staircase would scare me to travel up and down. (I have a rough time with stairs as is, but GOD, it is a beautifully designed architectural piece!)

When I saw the front of the house, I thought, why did it take them a year. Holy cow, what a gorgeous place. It goes on and on. You hit it out of rather ballpark again.

Saturday night here in Australia and I'm supposed to be at a gig. Cancelled to curl up on the couch with a pizza and binge a bunch of your videos again. This is my rock n roll right here. Thanks to Laine I've discovered that the only thing I care about anymore is pocket doors, and I didn't even know what they were until I subscribed a few weeks back. The other day my mate was boasting about his new promotion and I was like "So? I saw curved pocket doors today. CURVED!" He was speechless. And maybe a bit worried.

Laine, you're killing me here LOL The only thing stopping me from moving to Natchez is the fact that I finally got my 1920 house done and the fact that I just plain don't have the energy to take on another house renovation! What a beautiful house. The size is deceiving. It looks cozy from the front and morphs into such an impressive mansion the farther you venture into the house. If there was one about a third of the size, I'd be saying "dang it you two" and start planning to move. This area is so historically important and as romantic as New Orleans. It also has a few generations of my family history. It's beautiful. Merry Christmas to you both! Edit: Aw shoot, the county is named after my branch of the Adams.

I love the dog. The house belongs to him/her and keeps a watchful eye. However, the dog needs a big red velvet bow for Christmas. My dogs have Christmas coats adorned with velvet ribbon and bells. Two wear Santa hats and the third gets a set of antlers. The Christmas music played on yhe piano was really nice too! This Christmas, we are all dealing with a WINTERS BLAST. Maybe next year we will have a WNTERS BLAST of the party kind. Stay safe EVERYBODY. Very beautiful house. I love Natchez. It's another one of " those places" found in America.

*The view from the front is quietly deceiving if the actual size of the house.* I particularly like the Greek Revival design, my taste prefers a more Modern Minimalism interpretation of the design, yet the "Greek Influence" remains a preference in the designs 9f the 19th Century Homes found throughout the USA. This house is museum like in it's collection of antique furniture, decor pieces, paintings and photos. (Dedicated cleaning and care required.) For personal use, I prefer a more open floo and ceiling plan, the minimalism of far less furniture and "Victorian influence detail, like the variety of decor pieces, and window treatments. Yet, the *"design"* serves as the model of statement I so admire in Architecture. A lovely tour and history story. Best Thoughts and Wellbeing ...

Laine, why were houses almost always named back then? Was it because some families had multiple homes so they named them, or was it because houses this grand were known around town and so they were named?
@OurRestorationNation2 жыл бұрын
You are right about the prominence of the house in town acquiring a name but it was also useful for correspondence. Houses didn’t have numbers back then so they needed some type of identifier.

Why are there dishes in a built in hutch between the bedroom and the bathroom?
@OurRestorationNation2 жыл бұрын
At one point that room was used as the dining room. However, the lady of the house didn’t like knowing the room off the dining was a bathroom, so she had a China hutch built in, so that when the doors were opened it appeared to just be an extension of the dining space. I LOVE that story

Hello to y’all ! Beautiful house! I have, probably, an ignorant question. But we’re never too old to learn. When you mentioned the enslaved children were also tutored…can we, in modern day, surmise the homeowners were wishing to help them, that they too looked at enslavement as something that was wrong and something that should end. Or, is that just hopeful thinking? I’ve watched your channel almost from the beginning and remember other comments regarding enslavement…so I guess I’m mentioning that to explain why my question pertains to this vs the architecture of the house. 😊
@OurRestorationNation2 жыл бұрын
There is a significant documented history of slave owners in Natchez dealing with their moral dichotomy. We try not to project 21st century ideals and sensibilities onto 19th century people, but we do have many instances where enslaved peoples were treated differently in this particular community. We’ll be exploring that more in future episodes.
@vintagewidow2 жыл бұрын
@@OurRestorationNation thank you for answering my question. I agree what we know today cannot by hung over historical actions in every circumstance BUT it is just heartening to hear stories of people who did what they felt was right despite what was accepted as “right”. That maybe they did the hard thing vs the easy thing for the right reasons. Anyway…that’s what I enjoy about y’all’s channel. Houses AND History. I mean how can that NOT be a perfect combination of subjects. 😊. Thanks for all y’all’s hard work with the videos and Merry Merry Merry Christmas! 🎄
