I wish the audience could see what this house looked like in the early 1970s. The entry hall had antique wallpaper and really set off the trim and ceiling medallions. Back then the house was filled with gorgeous antiques also. The walls and trim and ceilings are all painted the same today which is sad because the extraordinary woodwork just blends into the walls.

It’s beautiful…but I agree, way to much white paint. An interesting wallpaper would be a wonderful improvement to the space ❤️

I was thinking the same thing...very modern looking . The restoration of Monticello showed intense colors because lighting was subdued and the entire white on white was not a 'thing' at that time.
@cindybogart60623 жыл бұрын
@@timemachine7026 I’m with you on this. The woodwork would be so beautiful if it was not painted. I never like a house when they paint the moldings , fireplaces ect. It looses so much character. I know it’s a lot of work to maintain… I always felt it was worth the work.

I agree this is one of the best executed tours that I have seen. I can't believe that it was recently made, when most tours now go so fast that you can't enjoy it. I just wish that you would at least step into all the bathrooms on the 1st two floors. Those are often my favorite part of the house, when touring historic homes.

Ravenna is as elegant as she is timeless. As majestic today as the day she was built. Fads may come and go but she has stayed true to her Greek Revival heritage. Neutrals and muted tones where the colors of choice as were painted moldings and trim work. The neutral background allows color to be added or changed by season or by whim through fabrics, tapestries, artwork, carpets, furniture, dishes and accessories. Even if she had woven fabric wall coverings originally they would have been muted elegant colors. Bright, vivid color certainly has a place in decor and can be beautiful (the painted ladies of San Francisco)but it would only detract detract from Ravenna’s beauty and grace the same way to much makeup can do more harm than good. The eye doesn’t know where to focus. Everything is competing. She’s perfect the way she is in my humble opinion. I can’t even imagine what an honor and privilege it would be to be her caretaker. She is breathtaking.

Laine and Kevin, your videos and presentations are awesome! You have quickly become my favorite channel. I love your enthusiasm and love for great early American architecture and craftmanship. These homes are truly amazing and are certainly works of art. I love how you softly guide us not only through the homes, but also through its history and how you educate us a little along the way. Your presentations stir the imagination and it's as if you feel connected to the lives and times of a bygone era. Although, I love them all, this video and the Brandon Hall Plantation videos are my favorite. I just keep looking at them over and over and imagine a time and life style so far removed. From one romantic to another, you guys are the bee's knees! Thank you for sharing your love and enthusiasm for these homes. Roger :)
