The minimum wage in Portugal is around $700 per month, so you can definitely live in Portugal for less than $2000. Especially if you move away from big city centers such as Lisbon and Porto. I really enjoy your content, just to mention that public schools in Portugal teach the same program as private schools and after year 9 you actually get better chances of getting into a good university by attending public rather than private schools. Thank you for making my country so appealing. All the best.

Portuguese here: See the benefits of changing the diesel car to a LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), it´s way cheaper. Via verde for the roads tools, check the local farmers markets instead of "supermarkets stores" and maybe change a little of the lawn to a Portuguese pavement with basalt and limestone. (is not that cheap but it´s beautiful and no maintenance needed). And you have the right to a Family Doctor appointed to you in the near hospital or Health center (centro de saúde). Good Luck!

I’m so excited to be here! I found you while on the brown ambition podcast. I had just found them about a week ago and usually just have podcasts play in the background while I’m working. You guys come on and after the first 10min, I put my stuff away, open a new Excel sheet, rewind from the top, and start taking notes! KZbin isn’t allowed on the computers, and by design no cellphones allowed. I was grateful my commute is an hour and I have an hour to wait for my carpool rider- it’s Sunday, I’ve been listening every chance possible. Bought your stocks course that day Sept 3, couldn’t WAIT for the weekend to get started on that and my FIRE Workbook. It’s Sunday, runni Nd around finishing my home classroom, just finished helping my college student with her paper, but all I can think of is getting started on my workbook. I click the link on one of the Jr videos while during errands today - the Sally Spender one, and know instantly my 9yr old would love this. She’s with her dad so I send him the link and ask him to let her watch. 15min later she calls and asks if it’s ok for their channel to be on her approved list- music to my ears. It’s 3 hours later, quiet time in our house for another hour before we start Mulan, she has earphones on and I hear her typing in her journal about learning about investing, and index funds, and it’s alllll music to my ears! For a minute I beat myself up for being 47 and no where near FIRE. Let myself have a minute then got excited and am determined to make my 10yr plan happen, but most importantly have this house full of girls financially literate at their young ages. My kid just asked if it was ok to sell her dollhouse and put that money towards investing. 😱 Oh heck yeah. Thank you 🙏 Sooooo very much for existing!

Wow that was a lot- if it’s not clear, I started to watch on Thursday, it’s now Sunday😂 just camping on your channel every chance I get- with my hour commute, it’s on, errands, it’s on. Now that I’m home, working on my bFIRE workbook for a bit before I change gears to the stock course. So excited, so grateful, thank you so much... here we go!🙌🙌🙏🤙🏽

That's what happens with a universal public health care system. It lows prices of practice to the actual cost of it. But it has to be sustained with taxes on revenues everyone has to pay, if you want to use it. That forces the private healthcare market to low prices. Well, you have the Canada example next to you, which I don't know thoroughly, but I believe is similar to most european. For instance, Swizterland changed its public health system to a private insurance based one a few years ago. Now costs are rocketing year after year, as insurance companies profits. My brother lives there and his (single no children) is over $7000 a year. He had a anckle surgery 2 years ago bc he hurt himself playing rugby, that was $10k co-payment

Hi you guys, A great update video on your monthly expenses! I have a question: In an older video, you talked about how much you love to live in Lisbon and all that the city has to offer. Has the COVID situation changed your point of view to live in the city and to move more rural? Or was this your plan all along?
@OurRichJourney4 жыл бұрын
That's a great question Kati! Yes - covid definitely got us thinking. It was hard living in an apartment with people above and below us and not having a yard. Being inside for that long made us realize that we really needed the yard. When we lived in the Bay Area, we had a yard with a chicken coop. We realized we wanted to find space for that again. In Lisbon, it's hard to get the space and the yard.
@KatiCarrapa4 жыл бұрын
@@OurRichJourney Thanks for your answer! This makes a lot of sense! Back when COVID hit so badly I was in Porto with my husband and we weren't able to go back to NY because of the difficult situation in NY. So we stayed for a total of 4 months with my in-laws. They have a very different mindset and that made it challenging for me. So for our FIRE journey, it's a priority is to have our own space and above all our own kitchen. It showed me how important autonomy is for me and for the health of our marriage. To save money staying with them for maybe 2 weeks is no problem, but in cases like this protecting our mental health and marriage health has a priority to saving as much money as possible.

I love all these videos that you both have made! My partner and I are 27. We have been talking about FIRE for about 6 months. I will hit 18-19% to my FIRE number by the end of this year. He is a natural saver and has a healthy investment fund, but hasn't done any of his plans/budget yet. Your videos really help us (esp him) see what life we could have. He had never thought retiring by 40 could be possible!!
