It's defz a good read on the subject The Indian freedom struggle had broadly two domains: the non-violence initiative (Mahatma Gandhi) and the revolutionary movement.. Not much is known of the revolutionaries outside of the country, but they were very vital to India's independence..

Watch "Bose: Dead or Alive" It is a series when India struggled to get Independence, when Congress party and Gandhi tried to take over things and just become the other dynasty who wanted to rule India according to there whims and wishes (and did). It really was Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose because of whom we live in an independent country, he is the one who really made British leave our country. Oh and btw, he was made to disappear when the Congress party, especially Jawahar lal Nehru our first prime minister was scared because of Netaji's rising popularity and following. Hence it will always remain a mystery as to where did he go or how he died after Independence. India was a complex society with emperor to grass root level governing systems, taxation, property structures, vast industries of textiles, spices, diamonds, jewellery, silk, cotton etc. It had vast literature bigger than the combined literature of Europe at that time, with religious and cultural influence Pan Asia. Now you know why such extravagant buildings like Red fort and Taj Mahal was possible to build. India was the most important colony. By controlling India and to some extend China, Two of the world's biggest economies of that time, Britian become the most powerful empire in history. They called India, "The jewel in the crown of the British Empire"

We have an interactive classroom in India and we often engage in debates beyond our one sided textbooks and everyone who is pro British colonialism often bring up the whole railways and roads thing and when we say that it wasn't really constructed for the locals the rebuttal is often "Well it was constructed in India nonetheless" and to all of those people I say- "Many countries have built railways and roads and are doing rather well for themselves without colonial oppression."

I loved Dr. Tharoor's speech the most not because I am an Indian and so is he but because he is one of the most eloquent , most knowledgeable of the context , most applauded and least interrupted during the speech or debate. Due to the shortage of time he couldn't elaborate points such as massacres and all. As the New York bestseller Rupi Kaur said OUR HISTORY TELLS STORIES THAT NO BOOKS HAVE SPINE TO CARRY. Even after all this, we Indians don't hate Brits or any other nationality . We are taught by our culture to respect every individual. We greet others by pressing our hands and saying “Namaste" as a form of respect.

About "woven air" muslin cloth ...... It is called "malmal" in local language and the malmal of Dhaka - present day capitol of Bangladesh, was World famous. It was said that a saree (9mtrx1mtr piece) made out of that cloth could be folded and stored in a match box. Of course, it is hard to imagine but then I was assured by the name "woven air" attributed to it. And yes, the early British settlers did cut off Thumbs of the weavers that did that kind of work.
