The change that has come into the fielding quality in the last decade or so is insane! It has to do with the 'never give up' attitude that has developed over the period. Those running to save the boundary ones, just 15 yrs back even the most athletic fielders would just give up after an initial sprint! However, I would like to see how many runs that fielder saved at the end, because there is a good chance that the batsmen may have ran 4 in the end😂

Just a point.. Most often fielders are successful in saving or turning it into a catch.. but there are instances when they fail purely bcoz of timing of throw or imbalance.. but yes nowadays the success rate is way too high as these players practice a lot.. some of the players are specialised for these kinda acrobatic fielding too.. Faf Maxwell are the big names..

@@codeengineer10 I was precisely talking about the boundary line antics.. indeed Jadeja is a great fielder but hasn't been involved in a lot of boundary line catches which we saw in video.. only one instance in tests of McCullum from 2014 is where he caught in that way where as Maxwell and Faf have been involved multiple times..

Back in the day, many grounds had the actual fence as the boundary. I think the boundary rope was introduced for player safety, as well as standardising the size of fields.

This kind of outfield catches are purely the contributing of T20 format to the game. Back when there was just test and one day cricket, no fielder would attempt to stop a ball that is going over the ropes because just one six wouldn't matter that much and it's a long format.

Actually it's true because u need to save the boundaries and have presence of mind and throwing to another Fielder is something unique. People thinks it's easy because they do it often u have to jump in time, know where is the boundary is and throw it in the air in order to maintain ur balance

If the ball hasn't touched the ground and the fielder in order to save it crossing the boundary line touches the line with the ball in his hand, then it will be declared a six. Similarly if the ball is rolling along the ground towards the boundary line, and the fielder touches the boundary line with the ball too touching him, then it will be declared a four.

Logic is quite simple - 'Cricket doesn't have a vertical plain.' Only horizontal plain is considered. So anything that's in the air, be it the feet or ball, is in open play as long as they don't touch the ground on or beyond the line. When a player is touching the line or ground beyond the line (boundary) while in possession or touch of the ball, the play is over and it's either four or six. By the same logic, the bat or feet in the air in case of stumping or run out is considered out even if they're over the line(crease). They've to touch the ground over the line.
