You're dog should be on a tick prevention from your vet. Find out what the risk of Lime disease is in your area. Some areas are low risk, others are higher. My brother had Lime disease as a kid and it is no joke. He got very sick. Be very careful! ❤😊

Hi Sarah! I’m a PACU RN of 22 yrs and know your nursing education is helping big right now! You’re doing great! It definitely is a challenge trying to take care of yourself post-op and also continue your regular life! Every one of our general surgeons post-op instructions (and yours may also say this) that when your pain markedly increases it is a sign that you are doing too much. You have to let your body heal or you risk damage to the internal hernia repair site (aka mesh failure) or dehiscence (opening up) of your surgical incisions, and a revision of your hernia repair. You probably already know this, I just want you to be careful. 🫶🏼 The farm is really growing and it is delightful watching all the happenings with the kids! And who doesn’t love a slip-n-slide!?!? 💦 Many prayers and much love to you all! ♥️ from Kansas City

Do hope you are feeling much better Sarah. I would leave the Guinea fowls with the chickens while they are young. You will find they will most likely come home of an evening & roost with the chooks. They are such good watch dogs as well but they are not good mothers. Our granddaughter puts the Guinea fowl eggs under a chook to hatch & rear, as the Guinea fowl will most likely lay in the paddock and is easy prey to the predators. Anyway, best of luck with your feathered friends 👍🏻 ❤️🇦🇺❤️

One trick I’ve learned having chickens is to take a large yogurt container, with a lid, put in some treats. Mealworms, sunflower seeds, wild bird food, etc. put the lid on and shake. The chickens come running. Works especially well when you want them in the coop or fenced area before sunset. They now look for treats when I’m around and come to me. Hope this helps you.

We have ticks horrid. They're all over the yard. It's my parent's yard and we keep it mowed very short too! My girls left 7 on my moms chair when they left the other week!!! We find them on us all the time. We dont have animals we're around all the time even... I have Alpha-Gal Syndrome from one of the bites I got last year. They are on us inspite of Off or tick repellant! My little sister got Lyme disease.

My dad was hospitalized for 7days for a tick bite. It wasn’t on him long which is unusual to get sick from. I did learn when one gets one of you to keep It in a ziploc bag(don’t squish it and try to make sure you get head out)and if any symptoms start that tick can be tested for quicker and more accurate treatment. Nexguard is the best for dogs for ticks and fleas we have found in Florida. Also I have no idea about where you live but we have huge hawks that will pick up an adult chicken with you outside. We have lost soooo many hens and Roos (even 2 ducks)that we loved. And you dog is small enough I would keep her very close. My neighbor was outside with his dog and a hawk grabbed it. The dog lived because the dog was dropped but hurt pretty bad. Just some advice we have learned the hard way. Excited for your new adventure and praying you feel better soon.

We had geese, turkeys, lambs, pigs, cats, chickens ( sold the eggs), and dairy cows when I was growing up. Seems like chickens like the people food scraps better than ducks. Someone from Wisconsin wrote that all the ticks lately could be due to the droughts-the only time I remember worrying about ticks growing up was when we went to a timber or a very wooded park.

I put a drop or two of lemongrass essential oil on my golden retriever when he’s gonna be outside a lot and I’ve never found a tick on him. I just rub a drop or two between my hands and then over his coat. Also true story, I rubbed it on my bare skin, hair and clothes when I was in the woods mushroom hunting. My friend used a store bought spray. When we came out of the woods 3 hours later. She had several ticks and I had NONE! I love your videos and always look forward to them.

Birds are amazing! We have recently got 27 chicks, 10 ducks, 5 Guinea, 30 bob white quail, and three sheep! Work, yes, but the enjoyment by far outweighs it! I hope your recovery is a fast one. I had a umbilical hernia with my sixth baby. I remember washing dishes and having to stand back so my big ole pregnant belly didn’t rub on the sink. After my seventh baby I had it repaired again. Now at 63 I have another. The first time I had it fixed was regular surgery and the second was like yours. Recovery time was so much longer and the pain was much worse. I love your videos. Thank you!

I'm sure someone told you, but you will have better luck keeping the guineas around if you keep them enclosed for the first 2 weeks. Don't let them out of that electric fence. Once they realize where home is and where their meals come from they tend to come home at night to eat and roost. Eventually once they are grown they may prefer roosting in the trees, but generally roost in trees near home. Excited to see how your flocks progresses. I love how your kids amuse themselves out in the country. They really look happy and healthy!

They are not the smartest and will wander far and wide so you will either need to clip their wings or have a high fence but even that they are super hard to catch! They are consider wild. Also make sure they grow up with the other birds cuz they can literally bully a chicken to death!

Where you are housing the guineas and chickens together You can just do the higher feed for both. *I run my whole flock together so they all get the same food chickens, turkeys, ducks and guineas**

Good morning to my favorite FB family. Glad you are feeling a bit better. Your property is gorgeous. 🤗 I would flip out with all the ticks. 🥴 My Mom had them in her house from her dog and she had to have a professional service come out twice to finally get rid of them.

That surgery is just as much pain even more but the best thing is that there's no long hospital stay however recovery takes around the same time,as open cut surgery. Take your time to heal you'll fell better in days to come. Get well soon,

One thing about chickens is they will return to where they have roosted every evening and you just have to lock them up for the night and let them out in the morning. They were pretty easy to raise in my experience anyway.
