Best pratice is to always turn on power wait a second then turn on switch. In your case a selector switch. The motor starter inside of control panel best suited to take the lock rotor current of the pump motor verses a disconnect switch or circuit breaker. From a retired sparky. Hope you get rain soon.

A rancher's work ain't never done! It's amazing, really, when you add it up; at 30 gallons of water at 8.34 lbs. per gallon is just a tad over 250 #'s of water a day per cow! It flat out takes a lot of water to raise a herd of cattle. So wish I could share our water with you, not that I am tired of it but I know you could use it. Here in the Bayou State of Louisiana we have had it rain pretty much every day for at least a month. Our prayers are with you and your record breaking drought. Sure hope you get some much needed drought-breaking rain. Thanks for sharing the Wyoming Life with us, love your "never give up" attitude!

great video, hopefully you can keep everything watered. Not any easy time. One point that I the engineer in me couldn't let go - at the pump you should turn off the selector first then pull the disconnect. Never pull a disconnect under load if at all possible, this reduces the chance of arcing. The chances are small but it does happen.

@williamgleaves1954 3 жыл бұрын
You might want to take those failed pumps apart and see what's making them fail; lose parts, worn wires, dirt; general wear, etc. I suspect the leaking foot valve is stirring up dirt that's making your pump fail or the leak is making your pump run so much to compensate that it's wearing it early.

LOL Just as you lifted the hose, and said "kinda makes me have to pee" I felt the same urge. And I am a ton of miles away from the tank!!! I certainly hope the weather does a turn around, negates the need for such drastic measure, relieves the fire danger, and replenishes the water table where that well is drawing. Thanks for taking me along Mike. I really enjoy the resourcefulness of those in your life style. I always say that there are NO facts that are not useful for a rancher, or farmer to know. People like you give me hope for humans.. Still, there are a lot of them that are a burden to the rest. I really enjoyed this video. Even more than I usually do, and I love them all.

I let the starter coil connect and disconnect the 3 phase power to the pump. after some time the main switch will fail. Maybe you will not have this fail for some time. Also all you need is a plat gasket for the quick coupler on the extension hose to stop the leak. there is likely a gasket in the one laying nearby or the local farm store. My 4 hp pumps 22 gpm from 500 ft. I pump billions of gallons so efficiency is important to me!

I drove a truck over the road for over 35 years. I loved it for a long time, but the government changed a lot of rules and regs and screwed it up. Like your little one stack Mack with a window in the back:-)

My dad drove a gas tanker for years until he was in classroom and testing way more than he wanted. He retired after 40 years.

Record rainfall for July in Massachusetts. We could spare 10 inches. Too wet to graze.

Thank-you for sharing the real struggles of the farm and caring for animals. Thinking about the calves if they'll be able to reach in to drink and pray rain will come soon!

That tank and truck combo could be useful for grass fires if set up for it with a pump a proper hose and a nozzle. Of course, you have grass for it to be able for it to burn. This year it doesn't look like that's the case.

Man what a lot of work, you and Erin have my respect! Weather here in Washington State has been really odd for us, I've never in 56 years seen Mt Rainier so bare of snow. It has a little white cap on the top but that's about it. I am serious when I say mother nature is bipolar and needs to go back on her meds, we can't handle Phoenix temperatures! Our Herb garden is a complete loss, everything exposed to the sun got sunburn so all the outer parts of trees etc. are dead. But fortunately this is western Washington and we are still pretty green. I've been praying for you, somehow you will make it through, you and Erin are very innovative and will figure out a way to make it work! God bless you for all you do!

When you are putting the air lines on the trailer you should wet the seals to help prevent leaks. Just a suggestion. Love your content please keep the awesome work.

When you get to a certain age, for a man, the sound of running water can be a god send when you need to pee! Those of a certain age group will know exactly what I mean
