Out and About Flower Shopping At a Garden Center

Let’s go on an OKC out and about field trip. When you’re melatonin levels are at low tide in January…and you need a warm, sunny location to spend an afternoon… then I highly recommend a field trip to a flower and garden center like Trochta’s, an institution here in Oklahoma City. Let’s go plant and flower shopping to fill the voids of Christmas.

I had to Google the word cockles lol "warms the cockles of our heart", it is a reference to something pleasant that makes our heart beat faster and makes us feel good. I believe a cockle is a type of mollusk or shell creature. I remember New England song or rhyme… cockles and muscles alive alive o. A cockle could also be the center of a chamber such as… Warm the cockles of your heart. Meaning the center or the chambers of your heart

Linda, you do a great service for your community by taking us on these lovely field trips. I have made a list of the places that you have mentioned. Someday I plan to stop through your area and visit some of them. My husband and I were in Oklahoma City, which by the way I passed through on my trips to Fort Worth Texas to visit family. However, we were there for a medical meeting and got a beautiful three day tour of the city. It was wonderful and we were very impressed with what we saw. You’re a little excursions. Just add to it. My grandmother had a rabbit foot fern. It has endured at least a decade in her house sunroom in south American. I remember it being really big with lots of fronds & the fuzzy rabbit foots. I have a picture of me with it when I was 1 or 2 yrs old. Im also celebrating my ZZ plant revival as I moved it to another room. It's growing new leaves! It was a little drab for a while. 🌿🪴

You really don't need to do anything with the rabbits foot fern. We've had a huge one in the same pot for many, many years. Can't seem to kill it! It lives outside in the shade all summer and goes in our greenhouse for our central Illinois winters. This year we have a small greenhouse heater, but in the past my 'hubs' would move plants into his barn (attached to the greenhouse) if it was going to get severely cold. Warming the cockles of one's heart refers to the Latin word for the heart's ventricles called cochleae cordis. Get better soon!
