In 1974/75 my mum owned one of these, it was also a series 2, but I can't remember exactly how old it was at the time. I was 17 and thought it was an incredibly cool car, only 903cc, but it had such a rorty (rear engined) exhaust note. On weekend evenings, when my mum and dad were out, I would illegally (no license) sneak it out of our garage and drive it - not very far, around the local village, desperately trying to manage the spring loaded gear lever. Although it was a relatively new car at the time, it was already succumbing to rust - behind the front light bezels and in the spare wheel well. The offset pedal position - splayed to the left and their close proximity to each other, made it challenging to drive for a gangly youth with size 11's. Sadly we didn't keep it for long and by the time I'd passed my test at 18, my mum had traded it in with the Huddersfield Fiat dealer for a brand new 127 (series 1 - looked like a hatchback, but just had a boot lid at that time - in that '70s orange colour) I still look at 850 sports advertised, although I'd need to move my Alfa gtv on first.

What a small world - we have had a new model Fiat 124 from the Fiat dealer in Huddersfield as that's where I grew up! The 850 is such a great little car but I can confirm the pedals are hard work work, even with normal size feet!! ha!

you and me both! its such a little character and sits so well on those Abarth wheels. A car from a time when you didn't need to spend Ferrari money for beautiful Italian styling!
