This is a good follow up with the call and response video as well

Nice little video to remind us of tension in samples. Like the way you resolve them. Keep up the great short tips.

What’s the best way to train your ear so you can hear this more easily?

practice x3... pick up an instrument, ear training games/apps, make more music...

I've heard some good things about sound gym! But never tried it myself

For single note melody lines, I load up Ableton's tuner and watch it guess the notes, although I can usually tell by ear if it's in key and where it needs to move if not.

Just use an EQ and look at the frequencies playing.

i'm trying to find a proper tuner for the samples coming out of my Octatrack, it's kind of a pain in my arse, i guess thats part of the "charm" of hardware samplers? LoL

i chop up more melodic content than drums, and i want to make sure everything is in key...

@@isaacanthonydj4124 Toootally feel you here. Unfortunately, the best tuner is simply using your ear - especially with hardware. You could try something like soundgym to help with that www.soundgym.co/

🤔 WHY hunt around transposing samples or using a 3RD PARTY PLUGIN when ABLETON will TELL YOU what the NOTES are by simply using the CONVERT MELODY/HARMONY TO MIDI function?!? Click. DONE lol 😆

A good alternative! But unfortunately not a fool-proof solution, audio loops that are a little more 'ambivalent' and harder to tell won't always be accurately calculated, still best to trust your ears and listen out for unresolved tension! Hope this has helped :)

@@EDMProd Helped? Actually I think you misunderstood my intent. I DO this in Ableton ALL THE TIME. Very RARELY does Ableton get it Wrong in Melody Mode. In Harmony Mode it might take a bit of fiddling, but I instantly BYPASS any fiddling by using Ableton's SCALE feature. BOOM. Now I KNOW the NOTES, now I have the MIDI, and I can craft EITHER to fit into my track 🎹 So I was trying to help ppl SAVE SOME TIME in ABLETON (bcuz I don't know if other daws have similar features), but thanks for answering 😉😎👍🎶
