Thank you for confirming my suspicion. I had built an insane team but for ST i set lineups to play only backups and young players....prediction had me winning something like 65 games and i actually won 110😂

I agree that your bullpen is stronger than your rotation, and I want to add my support to a previous poster. For the first time, I think that you have a team that might lend itself to using a non-traditional strategy of opener, follower etc.

There is a fine line between adapting and being a hypocrite, and right now I'm still feeling like I'd be a hypocrite if I jumped right to using Openers. But your suggestion is valid and would likely make the team better!

@@oldschoolsports I don't think that it makes you a hypocrite to do what's best for the team. Your job is to win games. That said, this time is unlikely to be competitive for some time and the first 3 or 4 seasons exist to build your major and minor-league talent, so i doubt that it's a franchise-altering decision.

I'm with the slightly shortened Taxideinae and his point about "your job is to win games". I am not a fan of the Openers either but if it helped my team win games giddy up and get in there to Open 🤣

Hey OSS - nice win to start the franchise! One thing I noticed is that you never moved your fielders around - double play configuration, outfield shifts etc... I think they are set to manual by default - but that is something you can assign to one of your coaches to do if you don't want to get that granular. OOTP has some nice spray chart graphics you can pull up in-game to help you decide if you wish to keep it manual. Also, if you are going to keep the pitcher warmup activated, remember that you can do a mound visit to give that RP some extra time to get warmed up for that next batter! Fun stuff! Looking foward to the next one.

I'm bunting Siri there too. Normally, i would have Vazquez in front of him, so I could connect his speed to the top of the order, but this worked out better for you

If you do a Li opening day like this again the animations are much smoother if you close and restart OOTP. Not sure why but going from the off-season to playing a game like this makes the animations jumpy like that.

Glad the season proper started now. I will catch up soon enough. Admire your legwork for building it all up from scratch, but as a newbie that's not really where i'm at right now. So, apologies for skipping that. Way busy here with my first major league job at the White Sox after 6 seasons in the minors at the A's to ease me in.😁 All looks seamless and easy when watching you, but whoa, there are a million moving parts to keep a tab on.😮

@@oldschoolsports I think it's fair to say, i wouldn't have bought the game without you, OSS. So go ahead and claim your royalties.😊 What i lack in pre knowledge (which you provided plenty of) i try to make up with patience. Your videos (supplemented by pfholden and Sgt. Mushroom content) have been the backbone of my early experience with OOTP. As fiendishly difficult a learning curve it can be for anyone, let alone a casual european baseball fan like me, the game is very rewarding when the decisions you make pay off. And they DO pay off when your decisions are the correct ones, i have learned that much. Some may say "oh cool, you beat a spreadsheet game" (and i am miles away from having beaten anything), but i'm an old school gamer in that sense. "Beating the game", based on understanding the mechanics and the numbers, is exactly my thing. OOTP allows for that, and you are heaps of help to me for even attempting it.

Lots of thinking playing out games. Perhaps omitting the warm-up rule, or if not think one got an option to auto sit down the guy warming if he start to get tired. Since the AI cheat a bit with no warmup better you do the same, if ever playing out the game again. Playing out the important games, but letting the manager handle everything is another way to go. One can step in and overrule him if he totally mess up. Lucky you not having a two-way player as Ohtani in your lineup. Then it get really messy with the subbing. Great win and you're off and running. 👍

I think I missed mentioning it in the episode when I went through my settings, but I actually banned two-way players for this series as well. Just don't want to deal with it!

It was cool to see you play a live game out for once! I'm one of those crazy people who loves both the GM overview stuff and the daily game-playing, so it takes me an approximately 1:1 timescale with IRL to get through a season (especially with the latest two releases, where in OOTP 23 I had to remake all of my jerseys for the new 3D engine and in OOTP 24 I need to add jersey number fonts and such), but I've been playing this way for about six years and I think it's worth it! Perhaps Opening Day Live will become a new OSS tradition? 😉 Lol jk... unless...? 😳

Thanks, it was more fun than I thought it would be, and it's an interesting idea to consider for opening day tradition. I'm sure the way you play is a lot of fun with the complete immersion into your team and your baseball universe. I just don't think I have the patience/attention span to do that successfully!

You think you are crazy, I have played every single game of my entire system for the past month, including both Dominican teams. I have been playing players at multiple positions each game to get experience. Also, so I can spread innings around so relievers get experience.

Yeah, that was rough... I enjoyed playing out the game more than I expected, but not the greatest watching experience. It did not seem glitchy while I was playing in real time, so may have something to do with how the game interacts with my recording software...

One thing you will discover while playing through games is that AI does a really shitty job on lefty right matchups. Even with the strategy sliders turned all the way up.

Could be your scout. If you have anything less than a highly favors tools scout, they are feeding you lies. Hire a HFT scout and watch your ratings plummet. You might not like it, but he gives you the straight dope.

He is listed as the #3 prospect in baseball as of opening day, but has not played organized professional ball yet. It does look like the Cubs have moved him from the International Complex to a Rookie ball team though, so we should start seeing how he does this season! I'll try to remember to share updates in the videos from time to time.

This video makes me want to buy OOTP, but fuck, I know absolutely NOTHING of baseball. I play Football Manager, FHM and Tennis Manager... I love to start from the little league and I know it's nearly impossible in OOTP, it's more a MLB thing.

Ha! I have played all of those too... OOTP is my favorite, but I am a baseball guy. I think FM is probably the best overall product of those four.

I did the same thing with FM 2010. I didn't know anything about soccer but I played the hell out of that game and learned so much. Now I have FM 2023 and I want to get back into it like I was in the past, but I feel like I will have to learn everything all over again. Watching those soccer matches was really fun though.
