Alan Rickman took to disliking Tim Allen due to the latter's easygoing attitude and frequent joking during the filming, which clashed with Rickman's serious-minded approach to acting. As their characters had a similar dynamic, Rickman used this to help fuel his performance. Despite their differences, Rickman acknowledged Allen did good work when the cameras were rolling.

I’m late to this, but I have to comment that I love the late Alan Rickman who was in this movie. He played Snape in Harry Potter as well and left a major impact on me as a young girl. He is very much missed to this day.
