There were numerous ships that lost their bow, but survived, but look at The Fourth Battle of Savo Island. One Japanese destroyer sunk. One American cruiser sunk, and three badly damaged. The USS Minneapolis lost her bow in front of her A turret. The USS New Orleans lost her bow in front of her B turret. Heroic damage control, and numerous water-tight compartments saved them.

The ship that got it's bow blown off was USS Marblehead, for anyone wondering.
@saltedgrump659111 ай бұрын
Nah, Marblehead was the one that took multiple bombs to the everything, but the hit to the steering compartment jammed her rudders, forcing her to sail 16,000 miles by varying propeller speed for repairs. For the ones with their bows blown off, you're looking at HMS Javelin, HMS Jervis, HMS Eskimo, USS Minneapolis, USS New Orleans, IJN Suzutsuki... and so on. A lot of ships in WW2 practically treated the bow section right up to the first or even second turret as Ablative material.

Stealth i wanted to say for the record that your UAD videos are the best i've been able to find in the way of just playing the game. You focus on the game and voice your thoughts on ship performance and battles without throwing in a bunch of irrelevant commentary and opinion that distracts and eats up time. Its appreciated. The role play youve begun to put at the beginning, personally i skip over it, not sure what others think about it. The two things i'd suggest is grouping the vids if possible so a series is easier to find and run through; the other is doing a series for UAD beginners wherein you explain to newbies how to begin the game, the ins and outs of how and when to do various things, and where to go for a good breakdown on modding, what it can do for the gameplay experience. I did run across some tidbits regarding using torpedo boats to cheaply guard coasts and transports to minimize transport losses, and some comments regarding stationing ship tonnage to improve invasion success chances, as well as targetted invasions to maximize GDP gains and resource access, and use of naval prestige to switch government type, to accelerate naval development rate (moreso important for playing as weaker nations); i remember you saying you were more or less unfamiliar with these aspects of the game in various videos- they do have a major influence, perhaps less so if playing one of the major powers such as USA/Britain/France/Germany. But to bring all of that knowledge into a tutorial for newbies would help a lot of people who want to start or recently have started playing UAD.

There were several ships that had their bows entirely or mostly blown off during WW2. And several of those then sailed backwards to avoid sinking. You were probably thinking of the American cruiser USS New Orleans though as they sailed a huge distance backwards to get to Australia, with just a bunch of coconut logs put across where the bow used to be, to keep the water out.

I swear if you saw my navy you would be just as confused. so many ships built in 1906 still around not just in 1924 but in 1930... They do well in invasions but live expectancy when exposed to enemy guns is rather poor. At least i don't have any Pre-dreadnaughts with radar.
@nvelsen197511 ай бұрын
Pre-dreadnaughts with radar are awesome actually. Cheap as anything and with good accuracy they do become dangerous again. Recently did a small campaign for fun where I gave myself nearly all rangefinder and radar in 1892. Then refitted the entire stock fleet. They could basically solo 1 v 10 in 1910.

A video on a sunday? That's unusual. Also, does the Romanian Menace appear in the videos you already prerecorded?
@SpaceMarine404011 ай бұрын
If an enemy gets a hit it means their guns have dialed in the range and speed. so they get a massive accuracy buff. If you make a sharp turn or change in speed you invalidate them having found the range and speed as you just changed it from the nice and predictable course, how much you need to change it is the hard part.
