Outboard Fuel Vent Valve Replacement

In this video I replace my boat's fuel tank vent valve because it wasn't accepting any gas when the tank wasn't full, hopefully this video is simple and broke down enough to where you can simply do it in your drive way!

They do come loose over time from vibrations I hope it goes well for you!

I went off of what was already on there and just bought the new one and replaced the old one. Also knowing the size hose helps as well as the thickness of your hull so it can get on to the hose through the hull

Would this vent hose also be considered the breather hose? My primer bulb gets decompressed and then bogs down the engine. And it does spit if I fuel up wide open. I was thinking it could be an air issue lack of. Can anyone help?

Check if primer bulb is bad, if that’s newer then you have air coming in.

Hey Austin great video. I’m new to boating and this is probably a dumb question but when do you open and close the vent. Like do you just keep it open only while while refueling and driving the boat and screw it closed while you’re storing or towing the boat?

Ok so if you’re talking about the vent in the video yes you can leave open. It’s always safer to let fuel fumes out than to contain them in your boat and have a potential explosion on your hands. As far as a fuel vent on a fuel tank you want to have that cracked open so as fuel leaves air can enter and your motor won’t strain

That makes sense now! Thanks for the reply! So the vent that you installed in this video, is that vent always venting the fuel? I have the same vent on my boat and when I tried to fuel up the other day the gas pump kept shutting off as if the tank was full. so I unscrewed the cap a little and I could see fumes come out, seemed like it was venting, it did help a little keeping the pump from shutting off if I filled the tank slowly. Not sure if it’s still the vent that’s causing the gas pump to shut off. though. Any thoughts?

So air isn’t escaping fast enough as the fluid going in, so I’d open the vent all the way, fuel slowly, and should be fine. Check your vent hoses and the vent hose connection on the fuel tank there may be some obstruction.

It didn’t because the issue the entire time was MY GAS TANK WAS TOO FULL!!! Which means my fuel sending unit is bad within my gas tank, going to replace it and make a video soon!

@@fishingwithaustin8258 I think that I could potentially have this same issue. Did filling the gas tank up too full result in fuel pump issues? I believe that my Sea Ray is filled too full, resulting in some kind of issue with the fuel sending unit. What became of solving this issue? Thanks!!
