If you ever decide to visit New Zealand, there is an annual event called the waikato seagull outboard regatta this has been happening since the 1980s, basically a 2 day event where you race seagull outboard motors along 145km of New Zealand longest river, last year the event has opened a 5hp outboard class that can be from any make and model. The environment and nature of the waikato river itself makes it worth while.

Awsome job rigging that boat. More people should take an interest in proper rigging! I would love to see you test what effect moving the motor off center will have. I experimented with a bigger outboard, a 115, and moved it about 9 cm to the left, seen from the aft. That resulted in a 5% gain in speed and about 10% in reduced fuel consumption. I have a theory of how it works, but its a bit long winded 😅😂 Keep up the good work!
@25hpboatracerman Жыл бұрын
Yeah, they do actually fit up some motors here slightly offset (boat builders instructions) which does have a good affect. I too have thoughts as to why it helps with right hand props to move the motor to the left. 😁
@baenkt Жыл бұрын
@@25hpboatracerman Yes, exactly. This effect is very clear when you go surface piercing. I think it was a Swedish experiment that showed that the thrust vektor from a surface piercing propp can be offset up to 17° from the centerline. Basically we turn a little to compensate, but now the gearcase isn't running true through the water...

@25hpboatracerman8 ай бұрын
Hi champion, Yeah a pad wound help for sure 👌 I am actually really happy with the revs and it’s right in the range I was after, I built the block and did port timing to suit around 7500rpm. The stock prop was a 8p and the little chopper is a 12. The little motor doesn’t have a heap of torque so a bigger pitch just kills it trying to get up on the plane from stopped. I reckon there is more revs in it but not without an external pipe. My modified 30hp yam 3 cyl likes about 8500rpm, and of course you would not run a stock block at those rpm and also you cannot expect the same life span either. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎
