In case you don't know, a good coating of silicone spray or beeswax on cord will preserve and help the performance. Also,, you should never pull cord completely to the end when starting. Shorter quick pulls will work just as efficiently.

researching these motors around the web it seems they are not sold ready to use as those of some mainstream brands. but that does not mean they are bad engines. they just require more care... specifically the main points are: 1) these do not come with any lubrication out of the box and require it at all moving parts. 2) these require a 10h cold water break in period with a 50:1 mix... don't skip it. 3) immediately replace the spark plug. there are more things but these basically are 1970s shipping engines so they require more wrenching to use. so don't expect Honda level fit and finish from the start and they will work fine?

Folks heads up. They, the company that makes these motor recommends a 10 hour very low throttle. Not breaking it like recommended will score the cylinders. For the price if treated right and stored without fuel it should last years and years of occasional use. There are excellent reviews on youtube that cover how to improve and protect it. I just ordered one today. Ill take care of it and go easy on it. Just going to troll a bit in a canoe and some little boats im going to build.

@thornyturtleranch4u3 жыл бұрын
@@5050fishing ive thought for a day about your first time on the water with your engine and then your comment about it being trash. They have a brand name and reputation protect. 25 years ago i was 100% opposed to anything made in china. Now however for reasons i cannot explain, you cant get anything made in the USA, power tools, hand tools, lawn mower type engines, small household appliances etc. Thats our faults in how we worked out or economy and allowed china to steal everything from us, our jobs, our engineering or manufacturing. But china has come a remarkable way in quality in the last 20 years. That engine is junk in the sense that someone may expect it to go wide open all day everyday and say push a bass boat. That engine needs 1. To warm up prior to hard throttle after being properly broken in. And it needs to be properly broken in for the cylinders to funtion properly and for engine life. Its a $200, gasoline, outboard motor. Its really amazing for what it is and what it can do. Its an incredible machine for just $200. Now if it was say $600 or $800 you could expect something much more robust and more powerful with perhaps a little bettef quality. I do realize gou said trash at a trash price but i disagree. I think its an amazing piece of equipment at an amazing price, for what it is, one of the smaller outboard engines you can buy on the market.

Two 3.6 HP motors won't give you the performance of a 7.2 HP motor. You'd be better off buying a name brand 5 HP motor.
@clydeosterhout12212 жыл бұрын
Hull speed is 1.6 x the square root of the length of the hill. For a 16 foot boat (for example) the square root of 16 is 4, and 4 times 1.6 is 6.4, so a 16 foot boat can go 6.4 mph with a minimal amount of power (say 1.5 hp). Once a boat hits hill speed, adding power doesn’t do anything except make bigger waves and more froth/cavitation. That is unless the hull can be pushed into planing speed, where very little of the hill is actually in the water, but that generally takes a LOT more power for a displacement hull (such as a kayak’s) Practically speaking, a 12 foot kayak can move at 5.4 mph, unless you can figure out some way of hooking a 10 hp motor onto it (at which point the kayak would be unmanageable by mist mortals). Before I get flamed, yes, there are (of course) exceptions. Kayak hills are not all the same. Some plane easier than others. But, in general, the rules above provide a good frame of reference.
