Coming back here to gush about 1:44. It’s quite amazing what can be accomplished with relatively few moving parts. The crashing symbols gives a rushing heart-pumping edge that contrasts with the rest of the song’s use of slow chords. Speaking of the piano though, the last notes add a dissonance that’s exclusive to that segment and only adds to the “you lose” feeling. It’s also a nice touch how the drowning melody grows and shrinks each bar, sneaking into the green hills melody, which is being passed around the entire time. Nothing is still in this part, everything’s in constant acceleration towards sonic’s defeat and it’s honestly amazing to hear. It comes out of nowhere and blows the calming atmosphere away musically telling you that you were never safe to begin with. I definitely might be looking way too far into things, but this is probably my favorite segment out of any confronting yourself remix. Amazing work!

Banger, just thought of a concept and type of narrative for this so here I go: “The flaming pits of hell came rising through the burning island, trees cracking in pain being burnt up and the grass’ color of green fading, sonic runs through these burning lands with the approaching doom behind him”

While this is all going on throughout the song, sonic gets visions of his friends all dying which demotivates him even more (he’s not in a great state of mind of course so this really starts leading to him succumbing defeat)

Around 1:44, the song’s speed intensifies, the camera zooms in more while both sing at a rapid pace while the mod chart makes the arrows go wild, and at around 2:05 the song starts slowing down as sonic slows down aswell, eventually succumbing to defeat after exe demotivated him enough, I’d also like to think that during the song, the corpses of his friends also start appearing just to demotivate him as well

Tails flying from the sky, knuckles running along with them, and robotnik flying in the damaged egg mobile, they don’t do anything during the song but just watch, the ending of the song has them all standing around sonic, exe behind sonic putting his hand on his shoulder clearly having a smile of satisfaction at the sight of sonic giving up
