Been my EDC for a couple years. It works perfectly for most things I need it for.. I have cut multiple ppl out of seatbelts, after car accidents with this knife. It is sharp enough to do it with ease and I can switch blades in 2 seconds in an emergency situation. I believe your review was honest and I can appreciate your points. I also know my experiences with this knife and I for one love mine.

This is like saying a Ferrari can’t go off road so therefore is a bad car. It just serve a specific purpose, and unless you are doing that specific task it won’t be a enjoyable knife. Each replaceable blade it’s sterile out of the package so you can process meat right away, so each animal you process you use a different blade. It’s not meant to be re-sharpen.

My first EDC (a CRKT) was a gigantic chunk of 420J2 steel. I never had to repair the blade beyond perpetual sharpening. I used to keep a knife like this one in a hunting kit, but I rarely hunt anymore and it just rusted in the bag between uses. Take care, man. It sounds like the cough has finally gone away.

I've had one of these for a little over 4 years now, not the onyx but the razorlite edc and it's still going strong. I'm a contractor so for opening boxes, cutting rope or tape and other basic stuff it works great... I also use it to strip wires a lot since I always tend to forget my wire strippers. But I do use it multiple times a day 6 days a week and have never had a problem with it. You definitely wouldn't want to pry anything with it or try to use it as a screwdriver, but other than that it should handle most of what you throw at it.

I bought one last week. I don't really plan on carrying it (going to leave it in the RV) but I did carry it a few days at work. Deep pocket for me is a no go with the XL. My gripe for me would be it has fairly sharp edges in comparison to something similar sized like a cold steel AD10. The AD10 has very well rounded scales that aren't that hard on my pockets or pants legs. The XL seems like it would prematurely wear out the pants/pockets full pocket carry. That being said...if you use the pocket clip it totally disappears in my pocket! Rides higher but deep carries on the clip and I don't notice it being there. Totally changes the XL and in my opinion makes it very easy to edc. The knife is large, with emphasis on being extremely wide. It is not very thick, only 1/2" on the scales, and length is 5 1/2", but it does measure 2 1/8" wide closed. Surprisingly the blade is pretty thin so it has great slicing qualities and came extremely sharp out of the box. It is very good quality as far as fit and finish as well. It is solid with zero play and unless you abuse it I can not see that changing. Everything was tight and centered well. To me for its size the ergonomics are great. Fits my hand well, is comfortable, and the micarta has a good feel with nice grip. I saw a review on bladehq saying how terrible and uncomfortable it is and I can say for myself it is the complete opposite. I am 6'1 235 with very large hands though. A smaller person with smaller hands might want to consider the regular sheepdog. My wife at only 5 feet tall would be better suited with the mini. Hope that helps!

This knife is wicked sharp. I did not experience this knife dulling quickly. Deer hunters use this knife because of its sharpness. If you want to chop or crack stuff, you probably want a fixed blade anyway. I absolutely love these knives and am partial to the 3" length because is is easier to control.

The point of the replacement blade is like this man we just need to get a new blade and keep doing what we doing. One or two blades in a plastic box in your back pack. It not not heavy and it's in a backpack dude. We bring in an extra blades when we're getting a deer and if I'm blade goes a doll I can grab a different one that's the point. We didn't buy this knife to carry it everyday and use it for all kinds of stuff and that's why we didn't want to pay a lot of money for it

You are right to bash this cheap knife (it is cheap) however i could say the same thing about some more expensive knives. Recently i purchased my first microtec combat troodon (i got it in the mail 2 days ago) and i can tell you it was a disappointment. 1st the blade was dull. 2nd the switch is meant to be used with gloves on. (ouch my thumbs) The size of the handle was good though but i expected better for an old brand with so much hype behind it. Thanks for the video
@brassmonkey_009

I’ve been thinking about this concept lately. You see scale options and hardware options but not many “blade” options. This is obviously a cheap version of that concept with more box cutter feels but imagine a Chaves 229 sold with both the tanto and the drop point for the buyer to swap at their pleasing. Maybe a stupid idea or not practical but seeing how people like tinkering with knives it would be cool. Don’t think it’s likely we will see that though cause it might affect full knife sales. Even offering different blade steels or shapes would be interesting.

Better than a dull traditional knife. I gave the orange handle version to 2 of my hunting buddies. I sharpen the hunting knives they normally carry. The $30 dollar Mossy oak Walmart knives are generally what they carry. That type of knife needs to be sharpened often. I use a Benchmade Grip in 154CM, stays razor sharp with occasional stropping. Dropping the knife in the leaves is the only reason for cheap knives. Thanks for the video 😎👍

Especially being a hunting knife, while also 20$, you won't feel bad about dropping it on a rock, or using it to cut some things you probably shouldn't, or handing it off for a friend to use. The amount of time it would take to balance out the cost to longevity of a higher end knife would take many years in my opinion. I think at the very least it's a perfect backup beater blade.
@alfredoghost2306
@alfredoghost2306 2 жыл бұрын
To me this is exemplified by tools that are going to degrade regardless of use. Something like a power tool, yes you should buy as high as you comfortably can. But a blade I think should be matched to the aggressiveness of use. Also the onyx has blade options for just box cutting if that's all you're using it for. If you're a backyard butcher and are going through blades on the daily, yeah fair enough go buy some 500$ steels. But the overwhelming majority of people will see this as a very convenient item

Putting the concept of a box cutter in the form factor of an EDC knife isn't bad. It's just badly executed here. How hard would it have been to offer higher quality choices? Having replacement blades available in even a modest steel like 12C27 could make a world of difference here. As far as comparisons, Sanrenmu uses 12C27 in $20ish EDC knives that are surprisingly well-made. The Tangram Santa-Fe is still on the low side of $20-something and offers G-10, decent action, and Acuto 440; which is effectively the Japanese equivalent of 9Cr18Mov.

I would never skin an animal with this blade, as I would be far too likely to hit that blade-release with my thumb, but I can see this replacing a box-cutter that uses cheap razor blades. But, this is a "no" from me, and I suspect most knife aficionados, because it's more a utility blade designed for workshops rather than EDCing.

Sign of a good reviewer is to take an item and review it for the purpose of what it is meant for. Like, box cutter...nope my $3000 knife with last forever and no wasted metal in the dump. OR picnic plastic knife, nope my $3000 knife save the planet and don't use the plastic. The thing here is most that are coming here for a review wants to know if it is good for what it is, they might only cut open amazon packages or whatever and want a fancier box cutter. Moral of the story is it shouldn't be on this channel but it does get views $$$.
