How has this been working out so far? Do you keep them out there over night or only when the suns out? Also have any predators attacked them?
@shellvillerescue92563 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael! We bring all of our tortoises (and bearded dragons) inside at night. We also place either bird net or chicken wire on top of almost all enclosures. Since we live in San Diego, we have large birds, raccoons, bobcats, and 100 other things that would probably like to play or eat one. 😐

I've heard their shells are like finger prints to tell them apart, and I see the difference in them You can plant cabbage and lettuce and strawberries so they will always have food
@shellvillerescue92563 жыл бұрын
Yes, we can tell them apart because each of their shells are slightly different. These guys should munch mainly on weeds and grasses. (No fruit) This particular enclosure we’ve planted hibiscus and petunias- both of which they eat. They also munch on grape leaves (but not the grapes) and mulberry leaves. ☺️
@tommyle97123 жыл бұрын
how big do they get?
@shellvillerescue92563 жыл бұрын
These guys get about 5-6 inches for the females and only about 4-5 inches for the males. The Easterns get a bit bigger!

You have to make some place for them area is too close and make one water round pound
@shellvillerescue92563 жыл бұрын
Hi Shaik, I'm not sure what you mean by "one water round pound"? You're totally right that as these guys grow, they're definitely need more space! We also wanted to make sure we included lots of visual barriers and hiding spots. This helps with any fighting amongst them, as well as hiding from predators.
@shaiksha61983 жыл бұрын
@@shellvillerescue9256 actually I was telling the water pound what made make it little deep, because for turtle they can go inside water when they heat to get cool
@shellvillerescue92563 жыл бұрын
They cannot swim though. They are land tortoises and not aquatic turtles. They safely enjoy laying in the stream and the pondless pond.

Are you suggesting people have to duplicate the native range of every species out there? You realize many species including these Testudo herminni herminni are very adaptable and I have no doubt they are doing just fine there.
