Outdoor Oil Painting - Palette Knife and Arthur Streeton's legacy

G'day and welcome to Streeton's lookout at Freemans Reach about 80 minutes drive west of Sydney.
Back in the 1880"s - 1890"s Arthur Streeton an Australian impressionist from Melbourne came up to Richmond and the Hawkesbury area to paint. Im at the location where he painted one of Australia"s much loved paintings Purple noons transparent might and as I stand here soaking up the country air I could sense what it must have been like for Streeton here back then. It came me a sense of nostalgia. I really enjoyed coming here and I will return someday to paint the majestic Hawkesbury river again.
Artistic Licence
For the composition I lowered my drone in the river just above the sheoak trees to get a better composition as from where I was standing there was to many weeds blocking my view of the river.

Really love this one Tez. You can definitely tell it’s a hot day. I think you captured the distance very well and your eye is drawn through the paining well. I really also like the trees there in the foreground and how they frame that side. Very interesting.

Wow Tez, thanks so much for choosing in my opinion Australia’s best painter, and colourist. You have done the iconic scene great justice. The Sydney Art Gallery had an exhibition about year ago featuring about 100 Streeton paintings. In my opinion of the exhibitions held at the Gallery, one other rated as highly and that was the Monet exhibition. I was moved emotionally by both and some works took my breath away. That good is he. Keep up your good work.

Nice lead in with the reflection on foreground water area that moves the eye beautifully into the background ... The colors and values are spot on really nice mood captured ... I was wondering what the bird ? Sounds in the distance were?

G'day Tony, thank you so much. Much appreciated. That is actually just pure gum turpentine, I use it to thin my paint when needed. Can you thin it to a house paint consistency the sky. Have a good weekend mate

G'day Susana, I just use a French box with my larger pieces and if I need to cable tie them to hold them at the back for the wind. That's all I do. My pleasure and Happy painting Susana 🎨🎨👍

Hi Leah, Thanks so much and sorry for late reply. Yeah it took me about 90 minutes to complete this. It normally takes me about 1-2 hours to whip up an oil painting outdoors. Cheers 🎨🎨👍
