Little trick I picked up use the watch the shadows on the grounds. Especially if you put the sun to your back or to one side you may walk by a tree and a squirrel will flip that tree silently. Sometimes the shadows cast upon the ground can give him away

I use my 12 gauge, with #6 shot, and an improved modified choke(.705), until the leaves are gone. Then, it's time to break out my deadly accurate Marlin 881 bolt action .22. I love me some squirrel hunting!

Single shot .410,20 or 12 gauge,. 22 rifle or handgun, air rifle or archery. It's all good.

When hunting Squirrel or Rabbit on a ranch or farm , or in small stands of woods , I prefer to use .22 shorts. Otherwise I use .22 lr. All my .22 rifles and handguns are capable of shooting .22 short - long & long Rifle ammunition. My Ruger Super Single Six will also shoot .22 mags with the magnum cyl.

To each his own , but my choice is a PCP Air Rifle in either .177 or .22. Accurate out to ranges of 35 to 60 yards and a lot quieter than any conventional rifle. They are sub-sonic and with a shrouded barrel or Moderator / silencer almost noiseless. Backyard friendly.

Now say the hunter is a bit darker and not pasty, will they still want to cover up the face and hands?

Lessen the shiny spots & brighten the darker spots will make anyone's face harder to pick out from the surroundings.
