Chef Taku, hey, my name is Pitch and I’m from Fleming Island Florida. I believe that those fish that you were calling Kingfish in New Zealand and you stated that they are the same as a yellowtail. They look like amberjack, but I believe they are the same as a yellow jack in the Atlantic. I love your channel! Keep the content coming!!! V/r Pitch

Taku…. I have been a loyal viewer since the beginning. I remember when you were trying to balance your full time job as a sushi chef and trying to teach your viewers on how to poke pole for Monkey Fish Eels and when to harvest mussels. I have watched your channel grow 10 fold!! Now you are almost a million subscribers!! I love your mix of fishing and cooking. Happy Holidays Taku and Jocelyn!

You know what i've been watching your videos since your channel only had less than 10 videos, back then i was still a international student here in NZ and had nothing fun to do so just started fishing as a hobby,. And now, i've been working full time for 5 years, watching your videos that you are actually here in New Zealand really makes me feel wow time flies. All the best and keep producing good content mate !!!

Kia ora guys. Your close to where i go for kingi's. I always go just off White Island or off the north side of Whale Island. Good yellowfin tuna fishing there normally from end of January through to end of Febuary when they're around. Jocelyn, you got to feel what a 30+kg kingi's power feels like. Dont worry, its like that for most people when they first feel that awesome freight train power they have. They tow your line down into the rocks and next thing you know, snap!!!!! Taku always love your ideas and prep for the catch. Wonderful looking dishes. Well done guys. Great content as always.

they are a type of Jack/Horse Mackerel/Scad, they aren't actually Mackerel though they are more closely related to Trevally/Jacks (in the same family Carangidae) so the closest thing they would be related to in NZ would be Silver Trevally and i guess Kingfish are also a relative of theirs

The red snapper or soldierfish is called mempachi (the Japanese word) in Hawaiʻi. I remember as a kid we used to be able to go at night when there was a run of the fish and catch them from the shore or a pier, and then the adults would fry them up on a campfire or the next day at home. Love the crispy skin! In this video, I also enjoyed watching your fileting skills as usual and your creative sashimi plating. Looks so ʻono (oishisō)!
@comeatmebro322911 ай бұрын
although they look similar they aren't the same fish or even related for that matter, the fish they get in Hawaii are in the family Holocentridae, the fish they got in this vid that they refer to as golden snapper are from the family Berycidae, this one in perticular is what we refer in Australia as a Nannygai or more specifically an Eastern Nannygai, they are endemic to Southern/eastern Australia and New Zealand, we also get their cousin Bight Redfish that are native to South Australia and just like the golden snapper they have razor sharp gills, they also have sharp scales as well

Your fine lady was trying to winch in the big King. That of course is very difficult/impossible to do. The guy intermittently lifting and lowering the rod should have explained that all she needed to do was stop reeling while he lifted, then reel to pick up slack while the rod is lowering.

Justa suggestion for next fish & salad video. Instead of sesame, EVOO or vegetable oil, try searching out macadamia oil? Haven't had the chance to " taste test" my dishes but have heard it's healthier/tastier addition than EVOO. love Taku and his content but have an honest question because I don't want to research it. Does the length of ads have to do with youtube or content creator. There are now several 1 minute long ads. Would rather pay the content creator directly vs listen to the incessant long ads, sick of youtube. If it is the content creator as much as I love Taku might have to reconsider. His channel and simple living alaska are and udonsoba are the only 3 channels I watch.
