I bought the Kubota Diesel generator it’s on a trailer to make it more versatile. I set a reminder start up every month run minimum of 15 minutes a month. I use transfer pump pull fuel out of the tank for the skid steer and replace with fresh fuel on regular basis. Mike with his fuel system could run it for a month 👍 I put quality muffler on it help keep noise down.

I have two large solar systems side by side. One is off grid and one is grid tied. I have a 20 kw diesel generator also. My off grid system has a 900 ah battery bank. I built all off this myself almost ten years ago. System works fabulous. We have one or two significant (3days or more) power outages every year and it is great to be self sufficient.

I have 2 Jackery's, one 300 that we use on the pontoon boat when we decide to have a little picnic cruise and need power for like crock pot type stuff, and a 1000 for the house if power goes out. The 1000 won't last all that long, but since I've had it I've never had to fire up the generator.

Hey Mike the noise from a generator is not the alert to neighbors that you have power. I’m sure when you think about it the lights on in the house is the alert. I do like the solar idea but where I live I worry about having a sunny day. I’ll stick with my Generac. Not cheap either. All solutions get expensive.

Hey Mike: I have a Generac 14kw generator. Does the whole house and workshop. You have to pick what you are going to do. No dryer and arc welder going at the same time. I have had it for many years. When the power goes out here in the Country, I open the front curtains and turn the tv on. Lets the neighbours know that I have power. I tried to get the neighbours to have one installed also. They said they were fine. I see them head into to town when the power goes out. Heavy winds here last night and this morning. Very cold also. Take care and stay safe.

I have been thinking of getting a backup generator, the problem is you still have to reset everything because there's always a delay even with an automatic transfer switch, but at least if power was out for an extended period of time it could keep the refrigerator running, furnace, well pump, and a few lights...I have a wood stove which is what I primarily heat with when I'm home, but when I'm away the furnace just keeps stuff from freezing LOL. A backup generator would be nice, one of the standby type, not the drag the heavy generator out of the shop and plug the house in setup, the permanent type....I have propane here as natural gas isn't available, so it would have to be plumbed into the propane tank....and I can always get a larger tank if necessary, right now I have a 325 gallon tank and the only thing that uses it is the furnace.

@@wildbill23c I have three "Fat Boys" that run the house furnace and generator. Stinson fills up on demand. We do not call them, they just arrive. The Generac is wired to the house. That switch was $1,000.00 but kicks in after 8-10 seconds. It does a self-test every sat morning for 15 minutes. I also have a propane furnace, with two tanks, for my shop. Everything runs off of the generator. Well worth the money, if it fits your budget.

I've got a 22KW Generac. On Propane it gives the full 22, if I was on Natural Gas I'd only get 19.5KW, because of the heat on the motor, it's a Kohler. I get it serviced yearly by the Electrical Company that is a dealer in/ around Lansing MI. Purchase, install 2020 was $8900. Monthly it kicks in and does a system check with no interruptions. I'm powering my entire home, garage. It's not for everybody but it was for me. Hope this helps anyone on the fence

We did it old school when Hurricane Helene went through here in southeast Georgia. Gas generator wired into the box with transfer switch. Enough power to run our cabin for six days without electricity. That includes all our freezers, a/c, and well pump. Didn’t miss a beat for the most part. I gotta tell you though, the noise from the generator would get to be a little much. This system looks like it might be in our future. Thanks for sharing the info. From South East Georgia but Somerset PA born and raised. I guess we know a thing or two because we’ve seen a thing or two.

We live in Western Ky and they’re calling for upto 1/2” freezing rain and some snow in my area over next few days. I feel we are gonna have really cold winter this year by the extended forecast. We use a packaged Heatpump to heat and cool 80% of time and have a Gas fireplace for backup heat (Running back up heat strips on heatpump is really costly). We run a Traditional propane/Gas powered 7000 watt generator hooked up transfer switch for our power needs. It works great. I have sleep apnea so I can see where a small Jackery might be helpful when the generator is off at night. I just normally use a 500 watt power inverter on battery for my cpap though. If you live in a state where there is alot of strict rules about traditional generators or in town I can see where the Jackery might be more appealing. The Cheeseburger soup sounds yummy.

Nice set up Mike, I love my small Jackery, they seem to make real quality stuff ... as a retired builder I've seen just about every aux power solution ... and I've also seen them all fail at critical times because they have complex circuitry (including commercial units) ... for those on a tighter budget there are many good alternatives, I live in a semi rural area in PA along the Delaware that experiences power outages often (for 6-24 hrs) ... I use a fairly simple set up of a well maintained portable 5000 watt generator, lock out panel switch and an exterior 30 amp receptacle, 25 ft cord and keep 20 gal on non ethanol gas at all times ... the whole set up can be had for around $600 ... it runs the whole house basics, lights, fridge, freezer, furnace, sump pump and well ... and I cook on the grill .... in winter my main concern is heat ... so it works ... the key to a gas portable generator is to keep it well maintained, (clean carb) and to have fresh non ethanol gas ... I replace the gas every 2-3 months by putting it in my Jeep ... and a simple, portable 3 sided wooden box lined with 1in foam keeps the noise to a minimum

I've got a jackery 2000 plus which I love, but one inconvenient truth is that they do not necessarily work with third party solar panels (some work with a MC4 to 8mm adapters but it is not consistent and is not supported by jackery), and to top it off the jackery solar panels are not waterproof so you have to take them down when it rains. I see the jackery's best use-case in small construction projects that are far away from a standard power source like patching a fence or building a chicken coop, etc. I still like mine a lot but wish I'd known about the solar panel issue before purchasing or I would have went with one that accepts MC4 solar panel connections from the factory like bluetti.

Seems good for short term backup. Folks just need to match their backup to their needs and we are subject to long term outages with hurricanes. I’ve looked at Jackery and for the cost I’ve decided on a 11kw inverter generator (dual fuel)…but I have a 500 gallon propane tank so have long term fuel available. If I had a diesel fuel storage tank, I would go diesel.

They got solar generators now that charge in about an hour, I don't know if yours does or not, but many homeowners use a small gas generator to charge the solar generator. If you draw 200 wats per hour, the charge is only going to last about 12 hours at 80%.

I've been wanting to get a backup generator, rather the standby type that's permanently hooked up with an automatic transfer switch so when I'm gone it can keep the power on to run the refrigerator, furnace, etc. I have propane here so it would have to be plumbed into the propane tank, but I think I'd still go with a regular generator....for portable power on a jobsite or something of that nature or what you are doing with your cabin the Jackery or similar product would be great, who knows by the time I get around to doing a standby generator they may have a whole home Jackery, at least I hope so, with maybe a solar charging array...now that would be the ticket there.

The side by side high eff. refrigerator will use/draw between 500W-600W when cooling. Your average hourly kwh use will depend on how much food is inside and how often you open doors. But a 5kwh battery should run your refrigerator for 10 hours of continuous cooling. Time how long a complete cycle takes with the door closed and you can get an accurate estimate of averaged watts used per hour and how long your system will work in real life. The quiet is nice your way and other than the transfer switch has no moving parts. I speak from experience as I have a whole home Deere powered 60kw diesel 3ph gen set and when gen. is running even with gen set about 200' from main house in my shop equipment building when home's rear door is open I can hear the generator running off in the distance which is somewhat disconcerting and gives me a camping out feeling. "Jackery" using Coal Powered Grid Power to Recharge just like a Electric Vehicle, I"ve had Solar with battery back up and invertors, large 3 phase system. Does not last more than 2 days, so I installed a 3 phase 12 KVA Diesel Generator, more power than we require for the whole property, cattle breeding, and at only 1/2 a litre per hour and at 71 db. Oh and we are not sponsored, more expense to us.

I have a Jackery Explorer 880 & a smaller 220 that I use on engraving/cutting lasers to ensure constant power. The Explorer 880 is used for portable PA system power up to do wedding ceremony's. What I wonder is what happens when a cell goes bad in one of the battery packs? They "should" be replaceable. Have never seen anything related to repair or battery replacement which is a concern. With the business I have lots of battery powered wireless LED lights and experience there is having to replace a battery pack every now and then.

Nice thing about the solar panels is you got that big metal roof on that building. You could put solar panels out there on top of that building and keep that. Ah, Jack recharged period I mean, it wouldn't take, but about 4 of them 100 W and keep it charged up, but if you wanted to put in an extra pack. You could charge him up. You could even know, put in a lot of solar panels and have jackeries in your house and charge jackery's. In your shop and are in the whatever you wanna call a building? And then in your house, you could have jackers and run solar over to those that other your house and charge zacharies over there too. Think about it be nice

@@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans Yes. The one I need is 120Volt 30 Amp which has the 2 flat prongs in a V arrangement. Maybe it is just a Canadian thing.

Y'all stay safe! Did you or Melissa do a video on the car tags that Eva collected? If so could you provide a link. Thank you.

I should have known you had a video coming out about the Jackery, after you mentioned it in your last video.

Seeing Hunter needs things to be normal, I suggest you do the same for the house regarding a backup source.

Nice setup on the Jackery! I bought the Jackery 1000 just a couple weeks ago and have used it for powering some basic carpentry tools out at my barn. I absolutely love it and plan to buy another one in the near future.

Im not really a fan of solar. However with that system and needing to take care of Hunter. A solar panel would probably be a good thing to go along with the jackery. Happy new year to you and your family.

You know all this talk gentleman some people like generators some people like solar and battery back up. Mike has made his decision and he wants to use battery back up very good but he also has a small generator to charge the jack and if he really must he can hook it up to his GM vehicle Mike will put up solar and probably put in another 5000 jackery

I’ve seen you demo a couple of other brands of battery backup systems…. Why Jackery over the others you have showcased?
