Exactly. I once raced to my ship as the planet was crumbling underneath me, got in and took off mid freefall towards the black hole under me, and barely escaped its gravity. This was in the VR mod too. An unforgettable moment.

The outer wilds deserves every bit of praise and diehard love it gets. It is heartfelt, actually interesting to play, and is crafted with masterful precision of retention of interest. Each time you find clues on the [Spoilers], you find something else off... and it keeps you going. Its a breathe of fresh air flowing into a abused market of pre-orders and subscription-service cashgrabs (lookin at you, bethesda). The outer wilds is not an exciting game. At times you'll fear for your characters life and be panicked to run from things, but you're not fighting xenomorphs or commanding ship battles. The outer wilds is an exploration game of the best kind, one that doesnt just let you travel physically through a virtual world, but takes your emotions along for that same trip, among an infinity of stars and unique and nuanced places. And it will surprise you with where you will go.

The fact they chose THAT song to use in the trailer at 0:58 made me f*cking break out into tears. There's nothing. We are nothing. We came from nothing and will return to nothing, and the scary but comforting part is... that's okay. Seriously, if you're new here, play this game blind. Go in knowing nothing. It is a puzzle game kinda like those "turn to page X, Y, or Z to continue" mystery novels, or like a real-time version of Myst.

I played it knowing literally nothing and it took me for a ride. I would give anything to forget it and play it again. The atmosphere, the music, the story, it's just perfect. When you first explore the star system knowing nothing, it's scary and tense, but as you learn it will grab you and won't let go. This is a game that everyone needs to try at least once. This, this is what society can produce, an art not just in graphical design but it the storyline and music, that death is inevitable, but that it’s okay, it’s calming to the human brain but a reminder of a masterpiece and all the memories, while it’s just a game, it’s an inspiring and hopeful masterpiece that will make any man cry and appreciate life because in the end when everything and everyone dies, it starts over, this concept and this game shows us what mankind is capable of making and shows what a true memory is and this is why it’s a masterpiece, not just in the graphics or music but the experience and what you learn along the way, this game, this is the best thing humanity has produced and is a true masterpiece compared to anything, because it gives you this feeling, possibly sadness but also hope and that everything will work out in the end, it gives you a sense of security and of a game can do that this is the best god dam game ever to be created, the world is full of wonders and tragedy, but this game shows how beautiful life is and to appreciate every small detail, as I’m writing this I’m am crying, I’m sad but also happy that this game has put a new perspective and every time I hear this song, even when I’m 80 years old, I will still cry tears of sorrow and joy, and hope to look back on life and not to be afraid of death but look at it as if it’s a new beginning, one where everyone I have every loves is… This game is emotional and inspiring, and to anyone who plays it, some advice, it’s okay, everything will be fine, their not gone if they are still remembered, and don’t fear death, it will come sooner or later, but it’s just a whole new world, whether god is real or we recarnate or what ever you think, there is something beyond death, life…

This game keeps popping into my mind once in a while even though I've only played it once (and honestly you can only really play it once). Just one playthrough and it's etched in my memory unlike other games that I play for 50X the duration and they have no lasting impact on me. I can't really put into words how good it is.

I'm actually playing this game for the first time right now, in 2024, and I'm absolutely blown away! I keep thinking about it all the time and the theories I have are all over the place.. don't think I'm even through half of it yet (or rather - I hope I'm not..!) ♥

A game which many consider to be the greatest of all time. Made by a small indie studio with only 2 programmers, some designers, and a few others, funded by Kickstarter over seven years. This game is proof that creativity, talent and passion will always matter more than budget or size.

Kept this game on hold since 2018...just to be mind boggled of its epicness now since the DLC came out. It was a constant HOLY S*** WTF moment for 3 hours straight and it still keeps on surprising with every progress that is being done. It's like Myst met Firewatch met No Mans Sky and pulled off the best out of all 3

Almost seems likes it's false advertising at this point. There has to be some kind of anti-trust shit against using a platform as leverage and good will if you don't intend to launch on it.

@@Sam-Cain Man you people have gone officially crazy. I don't even like Epic, and yet these comments are so dumb. When the trailer came out, the Epic Store wasn't even a -thing-, and so obviously they planned to sell it on Steam. And guess what? They still will be. It's just a timed exclusive on Epic. Y'all seem to care only about being outraged over bullshit. You don't actually care about anything. Just anger.

When you realize once you know how to beat the game, it's over. You cannot replay it the same way you can other games. It's the game that can only be played once. You may play it again, but it won't hit you because you already know the puzzle pieces. And that is what makes this game the correct representation of video games as an unique art form
