Hakeem Lawus Did you read everything? Everything is explained in the texts that you find. The only thing that changes throughout the loop is the knowledge you gain. Besides the ship log which is probably where you should look if you’re stuck. The rumors are basically just really big clues on where you should go to find more stuff. I mean, either that or just go places you haven’t explored. You should be doing that anyways though. It’s not a super advanced game or anything

That’s the point of the game, you can’t save the universe, that’s not what it was about. It was about solving the greatest mystery in the universe and watching it die, but that’s ok, the important thing is you found what you where looking for, you found what a species thousands of years old couldn’t. So you celebrate this last victory, turns out, dying around a campfire with all your buddies isn’t the worst way to go. I think it’s touching that the last song the universe hears, is a bunch of friends around a campfire.

I just want to say, I finished the game last night. (not Echoes of the Eye, gonna do that later). ...This song opened the waterworks valve. The dam cracked, and it came flooding out. But it's hopeful in the end...as the stars burn out in their last, beautiful firework displays, seven travellers sit around the fire playing a song, and roasting marshmallows. Singing a new universe into existence, from the ashes of the old one. Down there, with friends...y'know, the end ain't so bad when you have people beside you. Everything has to end...but what is the future if not built on the past? This is such an emotional game, a beautiful game. I'm glad I played it.

Something that absolutely destroyed me was, near the end of everything, Solanum asks you if you're ready to find out about jumping towards the eye, I answered not yet, I wasn't ready to leave everything behind, and she said: “It’s tempting to linger in this moment, while every possibility still exists. Arguably the most emotional moment I had in a videogame was when I accidentally ended up stranded away from my ship at the very edge of the solar system, out of fuel and almost out of oxygen, when as I suffocated I pulled out my signalscope and lined it up with all the astronauts. The best part is that Chert has branching dialogue depending on whether you talk to him during the start, midway, or end of the loop, commenting on the amount of supernova around you. In fact, you can notice this through the 20 minuet loop - every star eventually fades in the background, as to when at the start of the loop the sky is full of stars. Another fun dialogue option with Chert is after getting to the vessel within Dark Bramble, and seeing that the other Nomai clans have discovered this, you can actually tell this as a 'discovery' to Chert and he has a bit of a breakdown over it. Turns out, he's probably already confused, and was simply in denial about it all along.

I realized something interesting about this song: It's a metaphor for the game. You're practically guaranteed to hear just one instrument on its own, before eventually using the signalscope to line them all up. So it starts out simple, and grows in complexity, just like your knowledge of the story and the story itself. But... Your experience of the song is short. Because it's not very long. It's a relatively brief melody playing on loop. Again, even if you match all five players together, or at the end if you get Solanum involved too... The song doesn't change. That's the game itself as well. You experience it in short, 20 minute loops, hoping something will change or be different by the end. But as countless people have pointed out, the game is about moving on. This song is comfy, it has that nice campfire vibe. But its overall brevity just means that you will get tired of it sooner or later, that you'll want to move on to something new. That's what the entire end of the game is about.

Hey man, you don’t know me and I don’t know you, and nor do anybody in this reply section know anybody else here(if that makes sense) but I still feel sorry. Along with these kind hearts you see before me. This is what the internet is about. To share your feelings with others. You aren’t supposed to be scared of others shutting you down or calling you out. And I am so sorry that your dog passed away. But I’m glad you got to know him as much as you did. When you think of him you have good memories to remember, and good times to think of. When my dog passed away. I was only 7. He went missing for days and when I found him in our garage, he had rabies and he died in the vet. I can remember barely anything about him. But you have so much more. The thing is (and no offense) it’s good that you cried for your dog because you missed it. And when god forbid, you pass on, he(? She?) Will be waiting. To reunite with his old master. One last time. Know this. All good things must come to an end. And I know, that to you, your dog must have been the best thing in the world. I hope you found this helpful.

One time, I was playing and I just started another loop and then it hit me, that the station in Giant's Deep's orbit is launching the probe the moment you start a loop. I saw the probe fly into space so I got into the ship and flew towards the probe. It turns out you can actually visit the probe that launches and it has its own textures. But then I realized the entire time I was with the probe I was getting farther away from the solar system. I ended up 155km away from the sun, which allowed me to easily hear all the instruments at once. I still died to the supernova though. Edit: I just finished the game and... Wow. (If you want to call it an Instrument) But it adds this very homely feeling to the song, like how the whistle isnt perfect, and the banjo isn't exactly on beat. I'm in a rough place right now. A month ago I turned 26. I have few things going on in my life. No job, a college degree that I don't feel like using anymore. Since 2013 I feel like I've accomplished nothing. I graduated, failed to keep any job in my area of choice and most of the times it was to blame in my own incompetence. But sometimes not. I gave up on pursuing it. I joined a band in 2015 and since then we released 3 albums. The last one a month ago, amongst this fucked up corona pandemic. I also wanna release my own solo work, with my own vision of what music should be, but lately it feels like it doesn't really matter. I just can't do it. I'm not good enough, but the worst is that some days I feel like I can, but most of them days are horrible. My girlfriend says I have the impostor's syndrome, and although I know what it is, I do not understand it enough to do something about it. Like, wtf does it even mean? The thing is, I come back to this video every month or so because it just inspires me. I didn't play Outer Wilds, but I enjoy space and a lot of space videos keep popping up on my recommended, including gameplays of space games. So a couple of Outer Wilds videos started showing up and I decided to watch them. Most of them were random stuff that didn't make sense to me, so I watched without understanding it and shrugged it off. Until one day last year, a video about all the endings of the game showed up. I only have money to make ends meet, so I figured I would watch because I'd never have money to buy a decent computer, or even buy the game. Thought it wouldn't matter much to see the endings of a normal space game, maybe looking for some cool sights and stuff. Boy, was I wrong. The last ending of the 44 minute video was the intended ending. As I watched it, I realized that maybe this wasn't a normal game after all, as the "intended ending" as the video stated was dragging for too long. When the player in question joined the others around the campfire and all of then, one by one started to play the song, I fucking dismantled myself. I didn't know absolutely nothing about the game and how do you get there, but I cried. Just the image of some people around the campfire playing this beautifully constructed melody broke me down. I got out of my bed and walked around my house without knowing what to do. I still regret watching that video, but at the same time I don't. I didn't realize that I needed that moment. My regret comes from not playing the game myself and discovering it by my own curiosity Every month or so since then, I come back to this video. It inspired me to write my first album. An audiobook about a space odyssey centered around a character accompanied by music and narration. Every month or so I come back to this video in search of the same feeling I had when I watched the endings video, because the level of dread and meaninglessness that I'm currently on is too strong for me to feel like going on with it. I have yet to finish the audiobook. I'm stuck. I feel like I'm writing shit. I feel like shit. Like the twelve years I spent training on my music skills brought me nothing, although it is the thing that I most love about myself, but it feels like nothing now. I fear for the day that I come by this video and it, as well, fails to bring me joy. I'm sorry about the long comment and any grammar mistakes. English is my second language. If you made it this far, I'm not looking for attention, just needed to put it out somewhere. Where nobody can't recognize me. I'm too insecure right now to expose this to someone I love or care about. Please, take good care of yourselves. Eat well, drink lots of water, don't stay up for too long but also, don't sleep too much. I hope you have a nice year.

Ive had imposter syndrome for a good 4 or 5 years now. Every project Id come to work on I would hit the 'why does it matter its all been done before/someone else can do it better' wall. I would say, if you get the chance to, get outer wilds and experience it. The message I was left with has finally seen me getting past that problem. From realizing that nothing really matters, in such a way that the weights lifted physically from my shoulders. It doesnt matter if the next thing I make isnt my best, or if its a reference to something else, or its completely uninspired. The thing that does matter is that I was driven to want to make it, and it now exists out there in the world, itll be remembered for a little while maybe, but as with everything it'll eventually be forgotten. And for me atleast, that was extremely liberating. Wish you all the best in your music X

I have to say I'm very interested to know more about your audio book! This concept seems incredible, and like most breakthroughs, it's like nothing else there. You are a strong human, stronger than the majority out there. You can recognise your weakness and talk about it. I'm one of the people who can't do that. But your message inspired me to make something out of that negative feeling. Most of my life I've been teached that art is not something you should work for a living. "It's never gonna bring you anywhere" so I never bothered trying explore my artistic touch. When I drew, I got negative response from family, when I said I want to take music lessons, my father said "music is not for everyone". So the only thing left for me was writing stories and fantasy world building. And I did that in secret, just for my eyes to read. I didn't want any recognition. But now that I'm older I feel so sad for every other oportunity I missed to connect with that artistic spirit that lives inside of me. And by doing so I would be able to connect with my feelings and weakness better. I'm in a rough spot in a bad relationship and no job. Almost finishing my college and no job to work in sight. My gf is from another state and she got no family here. The thought of "she is only with me because she got nowhere to go" pollutes my relationship, confidence and mind. Slowly I am the one ruining my life because of not being able to connect, understand and cope with these feelings and thoughts. Recently I met a friend who practices drawing almost every week. I appreciate this friend very much and love to support him. But his art is not the greatest. Still... He has the time of his life when he makes a new project, or finish a big work. And I admire that alot! With his example I'm starting to eliminate the feeling of "if I'm not good enough at it, it's not worth to try it" and return to my writing and trying to draw too. Even tho they are garbage, I'm starting to connect with a side of me I wasn't able before. Bit by bit I'm leaving those negative feelings of self sabotage behind and starting to discover things that I love and give me energy to move foward. Thank you for the long post about your hard time. It's always nice to share these things with other people. I'm happy that I could find the words to express my feelings today, I will keep this memory kindly. Also, i don't understand much of this game, I was just here because I like the space Banjoo. Enjoyed the comments nonetheless...

The issue is, we are not. We maybe are not the only living sentient species. Every species does have consciousness, every single one does. The ability to display said consciousness depends on the creatures capability. Humans are an example, orangutans, chimpanzees or any other animal that has a brain (heck, a jellyfish was seen acting smart even though it didn't have a brain.) is conscious. Unfortunately, they do not have the same luck as us Humans to appreciate and love the Universe. For they are too worried about survival. Oh well, their loss. But really though, Space is way too big to traverse. There are YES other intelligent species, but we may never really see them at all. For all we know, they might either be at the same technological level as us, or have no tech at all. The universe is 16 (possibly longer.) Billions of years old. There are planets out there that had a earlier headstart than Earth at life. But perhaps for them it either took them longer to have complete sentient life or had none at all. We don't know. And the universe is expanding at a very fast rate. Other galaxies are going farther away from us, if we had ANY chance of POSSIBLY setting a FOOT on another galaxy in the very far distant future, we may as well give up at that time. Because they will be very far away. Anyway, the original topic is, we aren't just the only ones. There are more sentient life out there, probably doing the same as us, looking at the stars, but we will probably never find them, and they will never find us.

I love the way solanum plays offbeat, signifying that the nomai are gone and are not quite in reach of the hearthians to interract with. Yet the final few notes of each segment are played in harmony, signifying the shared memories and the friendships you have built up, even though you are seperated by countless years.

Great detail that's missing from the soundtrack version, is that when they join into the song around the camp fire, they start out of time with the others, quickly adjust, and occasionally fall out of time and correct again, just like real people playing real instruments. It's a fantastic touch and stuff like that is the very essence of the game. Every time you play you notice something different, whether it be shattering spacetime, figuring out how the time loop works, or even just noticing how the instrument playing is JUST off perfect.

Kinda makes me want to cry a little bit, you know. The fact that the theme of the universe isn't some complicated symphony of astral instruments beyond our comprehension but rather a simple song, played with simple instruments. A song that is enjoyed with some friends around a campfire with maybe some stories of hardships and some marshmallows to go along with them. Really makes you realize why we even bother. It's not to see the end or to become something great but rather to be something to someone else. No matter how big the universe is the most important things in it are the friends by your side.

Welcome. This is the end of it all. A lot must be going through your head. Was it worth it? Was I a good person? Did I become who I wanted to be? But those questions mean nothing now. You have no frame of reference when the entire universe is falling apart. Now, all you can do is sit. Grab your marshmallows, and your friends. Light a fire, and tell some stories. Take a couple strums on your banjo, and play a heartwarming song. Because that's what's really important. You want to know what the meaning of life was? Well, that's a good question. I think it's all up to how you make it. It's not up to some uptight philosopher to tell you. It's all up to you. I know, big responsibility. Perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps there was some special point that we just didn't get. I mean, what do I know. I just whistled a nice tune, in a nice crater, on a nice little moon. That was enough for me.

Nah I reckon this ending is bittersweet. The hearthians are both the luckiest and unluckiest group of people ever. The unluckiest because they were born when the universe was about to end. But also the luckiest, because they get to experience possibly the greatest event possible in the universe, its ending. In my opinion this is a game about acceptance. Accepting your fate. At the end, you must accept that the universe will die no matter what you do. But this acceptance is not a bad thing, because in the post credit cutscene you see a new alien civilization beginning to venture into space in this new universe. Bad things can lead to good things. I think that is the main message here and it really resonates with me

This, this is what society can produce, an art not just in graphical design but it the storyline and music, that death is inevitable, but that it’s okay, it’s calming to the human brain but a reminder of a masterpiece and all the memories, while it’s just a game, it’s an inspiring and hopeful masterpiece that will make any man cry and appreciate life because in the end when everything and everyone dies, it starts over, this concept and this game shows us what mankind is capable of making and shows what a true memory is and this is why it’s a masterpiece, not just in the graphics or music but the experience and what you learn along the way, this game, this is the best thing humanity has produced and is a true masterpiece compared to anything, because it gives you this feeling, possibly sadness but also hope and that everything will work out in the end, it gives you a sense of security and of a game can do that this is the best god dam game ever to be created, the world is full of wonders and tragedy, but this game shows how beautiful life is and to appreciate every small detail, as I’m writing this I’m am crying, I’m sad but also happy that this game has put a new perspective and every time I hear this song, even when I’m 80 years old, I will still cry tears of sorrow and joy, and hope to look back on life and not to be afraid of death but look at it as if it’s a new beginning, one where everyone I have every loves is… This game is emotional and inspiring, and to anyone who plays it, some advice, it’s okay, everything will be fine, their not gone if they are still remembered, and don’t fear death, it will come sooner or later, but it’s just a whole new world, whether god is real or we recarnate or what ever you think, there is something beyond death, life…

I'm not familiar with the game, but, as I listened to this song progress, I began to get this feeling, like a dream that is unraveling, or perhaps even growing stronger in my memory. Either way, I felt a bittersweet sense of nostalgia... As the song faded, I felt like a part of me went with it.

Well if you want to play the game and you should then ignore this If not heres the context of the song so watch out Cus big spoilers The song is basically your characters final moments Standing in the quantum heart of the universe surounded by facsimiles of their fellow travelers of space because, at the end of the universe, confronted by the futility of their actions and impending end of everything...they only wanted to share it with those people whore now gone. The song welcomes a new universe with the last spark of the old So yeah youre spot on
