I was 20 years old when this album came out. And 36 now, and still play it as if it just came out. I can't lie. When I first heard it. It was the most different from the first 3 albums. But! It grew on me in weeks and I started to like it even more. It was the pop/funk/hip hop/soul album, they ever did.

OutKast Aquemini came out when I was a kid and my friend played it for me and something just changed forever with me, with music for me and with what I needed to do in my life. It broke so many barriers my young naive mind was caged in by and suddenly, in a time when I was coming of age and also studying a few instruments and messing with my pos drum machine and 4 track cassette Recorder, I knew what this stuff was for! I realized genre is bullshit, because this wasn’t hip hop, it was just perfectly created art. I realized the philosophical struggles I started to encounter weren’t just mine. I learned skin color was even less relevant than I even suspected. Fuck the politics of anyone but myself, I’m talking the best humanity can be, when you break it down, race is a joke because Andre and Big Boi unknowingly gave me a gift and a “talk” no one else ever has since; America has a spirit they tapped into that’s a damn artist-philosopher “thang”, that great minds can hide in any persons head; the wrapping paper on our minds is as important as it is to kids on christmas...it’s NOTHING but in the way of the good shit! The real present is inside, and it comes out the pen, the mouth, the fingers playing keys etc. I wanted to learn to communicate what’s in my soul with my fingers and my voice, and I wanna grow, always and never stop. I’ll try to never let my soul stagnate. I don’t wanna be Andre, cuz that’s the opposite of what outkast taught me, but I wanna be me and take that as far down my own path I can. Read those countless books and hear those endless sounds. Im no Andre or Antwon but I’m an outcast and these two boys showed me how to own that shit and wear MY brand on my sleeve every time I do something. And I’m proud as hell for what I am, not my race my looks my gender or any other superficial bullshit but my heart soul and mind. Not saying nothing matters in social system but fuck that in this convo. OutKast message I’m hearing is far bigger then any of that. Liberate your heart. Let creativity flow freely. Make any thing, any way you want to! Just find out what the world offers and then follow that path til your heart is blazing with fire and creation becomes ur MO. Don’t ever let it rot cuz you’ll end up a hater and a destroyer and miserable. Don’t need to be a bohemian, or poet or musician, just question this amazing life, check yourself in ur personal life, work hard and create whenever you can. Thank God for OutKast!
