The video was quite entertaining though the pronunciation of some places was a little strange (eg: Doune pron Doon). Being a Scot and living in Scotland, I have never seen Outlander as I don't subscribe to a channel that shows it. I'm told it's popular everywhere but here!

@@Photasma I know. My American friends love it - as does the Scottish tourist industry! I suspect that it's all part of the same trend in which films made about figures from Scottish history (those of Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scots, Rob Roy etc - please don't mention Braveheart) do well in North America but completely bomb here in Scotland.

I spot my wee village 😊 I'm lucky and privileged enough to call Falkland my home, its where I lived all my life and where my wee shoppe is too. Outlander has been fab for the village and its lovely to hear stories from those who flock to the village to see where it was filmed.

That is so awesome! We loved Falkland. Unfortunately, we got there later in the day and most of the shops were closed when we got there and we left early in the morning, so they were closed then. Which shop do you have? We would have loved to check it out!

@@Photasma thank you, it truly does have such a magical feel to it like your stepping back in time. Aww yeah most shops don't open till 10 and close at 5 - I own the Rowan Tree, directly opposite the front gates to the entrance of the palace. Stephanie, I'm ashamed to admit that although having lived in Scotland for over 40 years, until now I'd never heard of your village. But after reading up a little, and at the risk of trying to teach my granny to suck eggs, I see that it has some degree of broader significance, at very least in its name. Apparently the British name for the disputed group of islands in the South Atlantic -- the Falkland Islands or _Malvinas_ -- is derived from the title of a senior British Navy official, the Viscount of Falkland of the late 17th century. And it turns out his title itself comes from your wee toon! 🙂 Fun fact (well, let's see, shall we): in the early 80s, during what Brits typically refer to as the "Falklands war" when Argentina attempted to secure their claim of sovereignty over the islands, a joke was going round In the high schools of Scotland -- well, in Glasgow anyway; maybe not round your way. The joke was one of countless others that poked fun at the Irish and so today would probably be seen as racist or at least politically incorrect, but we Scots and our beloved Irish cousins are (or maybe it's only were) very thick skinned about such things. The silly joke alludes to the fact that the British response to the Argentinian "invasion" of the islands was to send a group of warships known as a task force, and also to the peculiarly close-but-tense relationship between Britain (strictly, the UK) and the Republic of Ireland. It goes: Did you hear about the Irish task force, who tried to help the Brits deal with the Argies at the Falklands? *_Irish_*_ task force?_ Yeah. Unfortunately they invaded Falkirk! (Ho, Ho, Falkirk, Falklands, etc... 🤣) We all thought it hilarious, the idea of those daft Irish sailors invading, FALKIRK, an inland town not far from Glasgow. But I think the joke would have lost 95% of its comedic impact had we thick Glasgow teenagers known there actually was a Scottish town by the name of FALKLAND. I now imagine the joke going something like this: Did you hear about the Irish task force, who tried to help the Brits deal with the Argies at the Falklands? *_Irish_*_ task force?_ Yeah. Unfortunately they invaded Falkirk! _Eh?_ Falkirk. They invaded Falk... _Yeah, but it's the _*_Falkland_*_ islands._ No, I know. But...it's the Irish task force...and Falkirk...you know....like Falkland... _What are you on about? Falkland's in Fife ya eejit_ Yeah, naw, ah know. But...like, the Islands an' stuff. An the Irish are daft. An..._ _You're_ the wan that's daft, no' the Irish. That's a rubbish joke! An' look, there's the bell, an ah've goat two periods o' maths noo. Thanks _very_ much for wastin' the 'hale o' playtime wi' yer stupit joke. (Apologies for falling back into my natural Glasgwegian as the tension increases in the imagined exchange 🙂)

@@Photasma Yes, thank you. I keep reading all these comments about mispronunciation and I can’t roll my eyes hard enough. I live in New Mexico, USA and most of the names of our towns have Spanish pronunciations. If we got upset every time someone mispronounced a town or even a street name we wouldn’t live in “The Land of Enchantment” , we would live in the Land of Upset-ment. I really hope you don’t take it to heart on your mispronunciation and keep doing videos such as these. Some of us might never get a chance to go to Scotland and this is our way of seeing it.
