Tips and tricks for people aiming to get messiah and insane: Put your TV or monitor to max brightness. This will save yoi battery. It should be enough battery so that you can see the blood particles on the title screen - which you usually cant see in normal brightness. If you do use night vision, make sure to flash it on and off, don't ever try to use it for long periods of times, because you will run out quick. Furthermore, for the first part of the game, before Nick and Laird put you on the cross and take your camera - use as much of the battery as you want. It literally doesnt matter. This is because once you get your camera back, you will get half a bar of battery, regardless of how much you used, whether that be more or less than that half. You thus have half a battery to peserve for the rest of the game. So if you are struggling to see or need your battery, use it all if you wish, up until Nick and Laird take your camera: that's when you truly need to peserve your battery. Also, make sure not to pick up batteries so you don't accidentally recharge. Also, using the sound detection doesn't use up battery, so you're fine with using it to your advantage, whenever needed. MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AFTER YOUR STAMINA. Use the slide exploit as often as you can, when you're not in trouble, to slide as you move - because sliding allows you to temporarily maintain stamina. Make sure you know the places where you're about to get chased so you can peserve stamina right before those sections. Some speed hacks - in the beginning of the game, after the cutscene, you can skip the descent down from the rocks if you do a slide right at the edge of one of the cliffs. I found this as a speedrun strat from this one KZbinr. Dont worry if you cant do it, it just saves time from descending down the rocks (which can become tedious after dying so many times). Use the strats displayed by either GawdlikeMatt or ifreemz. Matt did this very recently so his run is more recent and casual, freemz has played this game since it came out. Although, i would advise looking at both. Specifically i would advise Ifreemz chapter 4, heretic table strat. And i would advise you to take Matt's caves strat, to avoid the two heretics. Matt's strat specifically is near fool proof and is superior to freemz's in every way possible and less convoluted, it also has a good fail-safe (simply run into the crevice in front of you, in which a heretic will pull you out, but you will be free to run to the next part and getting away). That cave section with the 2 heretics is one of the worst traps in the game and can end your run. Also, take Ifreemz's Marta cart push strat, as it is perfect and is very hard to fuck up. If it is slightly too hard, freemz does it with utmost speed, cuz the guy is a pro (he did a permadeath run for every outlast game in a row) just play around and adapt it to your own playstyle, but maintain that same strat, as it's very consistent (unlike Matt's which takes way too long). ALSO, huge point that ended my run at least 3-4 times in the cave section. There is a part of crawl space that you come up on which has a no clip area. You'll know which one it is, because when you enter the room, you will see the tongue monster at an opposite doorway, who will slam it shut and the crawlspace is to the right. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD: MAKE SURE YOU MOVE LEFT AS YOU CRAWL. Don't move straight, otherwise you will no clip and fall through the map and your run is over. Use your night vision to see. Also, the library maze, it's pretty simply to understand once you've done it a couple of times and you know the way. MAKR SURE YOU TAKE YOUR TIME. Nothing can hurt you in that maze, it's all just creepy illusions. The only time your in danger is when the tongue monster appears blocking your path as you have to backtrack and dupe him around so that you can crawl up and through the pile of books. In chapter 4 there is also a lot of high tension moments. The chase in the school where you have to hide under in the toilet stalls is very scary. The amount of times i could hear my heart bumping through my chest on that section. Make sure to stay calm and not panic. Doing that will end up with you making mistakes like opening the toilet stall door and then closing it before you get in; or failing to crawl accurately under a stall door, leading to the monster catching you. I remembered listening to Drake's scorpion album for my entire run of the game. Whenever that section came up, i played a up beat, hype song to match the tempo of my heart so that I could get in the mood. That worked for me. This same advice is relevant for the 2 final chases of chapter 4, the one where the heretics chase after you and you have to turn around and run, whilst crawling up the rubble. Its so easy to fuck up and one mistake is all it takes to fuck it up. Also the very last chase in chapter 4 (before the elevator to the caves) is designed to make you run out of stamina. Use you're own intuition here. Don't be stupid and try to stop anywhere to save stamina as this will only get you killed. The game will grant you some stamina when you have to make the final stretch to the elevator. JUST DON'T PANIC. For the last Marta encounter in chapter 1, you can completely bypass Marta by triggering her appearance and then running all the way to the chain where you need to progress and then coming back - in which she will despawn. You can also run past Nick and Laird in your first encounter. They will hit you with the arrow, but you will live. It's fine. Also, at the start of chapter 2, when you have the school section, you don't need to use battery to trigger the jumpscare you just need to wait and the door will open on it's own. Also on Nick and Laird part where they're shooting the arrows at you: make sure you sprint on the woodern walkway, cuz they can shoot you at the end and end your run. Don't try to run in that first section, instead crawl on that small cover to the right, and they can't hit you. Then for the next bit, simply run all the way around, and they will miss every arrow. Also, little speedrun hack, when walking up the balancing beams that move upwards, if you stick to the very edge, you can essentially sprint up instead of slowly walk. Most of these upward beams are in chapter 2, when you're not in danger so it's fine to try them. The only truly scary moments of the game are in chapters 2 with Nick and Laird, the end of chapter 4 with so many tightly packed chases and encounters and chapter 5 cuz the entire cave atmosphere. I remember when playing chapter 1 and 3, i was out here watching Boruto, whilst i played lol. Good luck to anyone attempting this plat. It is one of the hardest platinums I've ever achieved.

I remember doing the insane run for this game. The worst part of it is just how long it is. By late game you start to seriously get scared. Its actually really cool, because it succeeds in making me genuinely feel scared in a horro game for once. The very worst parts are nick and laird because of their aim assist shots. Specifically the part where you need to shimmy across a ledge, that was a major run ender. But if you can manage good consistent strats, you're fine. But you should practice it in general, as there are a magnitude of ways to die there. Chapter 4 (the one with the blood rain and heretics) are only troublesome because you're so deep into the game that you feel the pressure. The caves are bad because of the dark, and the battery conservation. Best option is to play with your TV brightness at max, it seriously helps. In my successful run, i ended up with battery to spare, simply from learning the layout of the levels and being able to see stuff you wouldnt ordinarily be able to by increasing the brightness.

I have played this game a few times myself (and I would never attempt the hard modes, major kudos to you) - I mostly love it for the story. But watching this video, I just thought about how interesting it would be if Marta died from being struck by lightning instead (especially because in the final shot before her death, she lifted up her giant metal weapon towards the sky and it would have been a perfect lighting rod). It would have been a perfect theme - her being struck down by something as 'godly' and powerful as lightning after claiming to be a power of God. (And I get that's what they were trying to do with the cross impaling her, but it doesn't come off as well imo.)

I still remember when I did my first Run in Insane. It was 12 at night, I already wanted to sleep, I decided to do a test run to see how much I could last, I calculated that I wouldn't make it past the genesis... Oh boy, how wrong I was. I continued and continued advancing, I had the game completely dominated with strategies that I had previously planned to do to practice, and they simply couldn't kill me.... I arrived at the mines, I was about to die there because of the nerves and the Shock of being in that place on my first attempt, but I managed to overcome the situation with the doors. I finally confront Val, emerge victorious, run away from Marta, and that's how I completed Outlast 2 on Insane on my first attempt, without batteries. But that's not the most impressive thing, the most impressive thing is that I got this achievement, along with the platinum, at 3:33Am. Without a doubt, one of the most legendary and unexpected moments I experienced in my entire life.
