I just pulled my 550 teardrop for 200 miles and am sitting inside with the door open watching a lovely river float by, watching your video and looking around mine. I've pulled it for 12 years. The term land yacht is true. It's so beautiful inside. The varnished wood has patina to a lovely golden glow. Craig and Cary have both been involved in keeping my teardrop up to date and graciously handled any repairs needed. This/these trailers can be bought with extras that could bring it up to a $30, 40. Or 50,000 range. Just depends on the extras you want. This teardrop has traveled America, been up and down some great and narley roads. Been maulled by bears and their lesser cousin the raccoon. All sorts of bugs and other critters. Lots of weather!: wind, hail, lightening, thunder, snow, and just plain lovely like right this minute as I type. There were about two choices of teardrop trailers in 2010. I've enjoyed watching Drew's reviews on all the choices now as the one he has in build for his family. I'd probably still choose a campinn. As always...thanks Drew.

This has to be up there with being one of my favorite comments ever. I can almost smell the location you described. It is comments like these that are most beneficial for the community. It is one thing for me or a manufacturer to talk about a trailer. But hearing from someone who has had theres for 12 years speaks volumes. Thank you so much for sharing this Jenn. You have me excited to get out there. I haven't been in my teardrop for 2 days and I already have itchy feet.

Thanks Drew. Today was a 280 mile easy pull day. Sitting again in the td with the door open, in Eastern Montana looking out at a beauty of a forest. And here is a short raccoons in the rain, forest in Texas story: the raccoons are climbing up the hitch and front bump out, looking down at me through the fantastic fan, then sliding off the galley hatch. Now doesn't every one want a teardrop?

Never overlook the marine industry and gear....one of the harshest environments you can find. These guys are using hard lessons learned by the marine folks and implementing them with good effect on teardrops. One of the things I love about my Kimbo is the marine components they use in it and the inspiration of the design coming from submarines...the Whale hand pump for water...the Dickinson Newport heater/fireplace both are utterly reliable pieces. Thanks for highlighting these guys again Drew...they deserve all the attention and accolades they can get!

I love the size of the Bend Teardrop 6x12 because we are not small or short people and that bunk is actually realistic for my 5' tall 8 year old and our dog. Thanks again Drew to you and your lovely family, and for all your dedicating your life to exucating others about tear-drops, square drops, and the new off road rigs. Yes the CampInn is one of those rare "middle segment" rigs that can go just about anywhere an AWD or 4x4 can go, its true you would need an articulating hitch for the really rugged long trips or real overlanding. But frankly, with the exception of a few, thats not the sweet spot for the CampInn. Think of it a a baby Airstream with better quality build...its more like "glamping".

Drew, Maya's comment on the cult-like loyalty to CampInn is spot on. Here is one comment from the "Unofficial CampInn" forum website: "Thanks Van and Terri for the update. Drew does such a nice job on these industry reviews, always good natured and fair without "pitching" his favorite in comparison too much, unlike too many other youtubers who are apparently shilling a product for compensation, which is not inherently "bad", just not useful for me. Drew really does his homework, and lives the life. That insight is rare and highly useful. Obtw, Reading all the comments I found this link to a cool documentary Drew provided, too, that I believe Craig stars in... @PlayingwithSticks I can't love your reply, I DO LOVE your reply, but it's OK. These are things we don't think about when we're young and invincible. Inconceivable! (Insert Princess Bride!). But yes, every teardrop and most squarebacks are very accessible! Them big RVs ain't got nothing on that part of the market.

I think that is a great idea. Have you seen our videos with Mark from Overland Trailer? He is where I would start with a diy build. He has kits, he has all the components. You can go kits, you can do it all on your own and he is a listening ear and a guide when you need a little support. I am not as familiar with wander tears, but they seem to offer a good diy route as well.

@PlayingwithSticks Thank you for the shop tour video! I know you mentioned you might get a video out this winter with an owner's tour and pros/cons; is there any chance I can get a sneak peak on your thoughts? 😅 We really like the stacked kiddo bunks idea for our first teardrop, and we're getting very close to spending extra for the 560 over the Fantom XT. I would love to hear any insights from you (or anyone else) regarding this trailer before we move forward with our decision. And thanks as always for the great content!
@PlayingwithSticks
@PlayingwithSticks Жыл бұрын
Of course. To me, it really comes down to your style of outdoor living. Are you like our family in our early years and you love creating that outdoor living room with additional side entry tents and awnings? Or are you using your trailer to get from place to place like we have been lately, and want coverage in the galley without using any tents? To me, I think that’s really where the deciding factor comes in for many folks. If you go to Camp inn rallies or look at pictures of their trailers online, almost everybody is using some sort of galley tent. And this is because they have a three-quarter galley hatch. Another little gripe about the three-quarter galley hatch, and one I don’t hear people talking about often, is that dirt and mud get on the bottom of the camper’s rear end. It just means you have to quickly wipe it off when you get to the campsite. If you don’t, you’ll get some dirty jeans when using your galley kitchen. In terms of pros nobody builds a traditional teardrop trailer better than these guys. Are there trailers out there with greater headroom in the interior, yes. Are there wider trailers, yes. These really are at the top of the market. Honestly, it just comes down to aesthetic preference and usability in the field. Outside of that I don’t think anybody’s beating camp inn in any other areas. These are my takes on the trailer. The owner reviews it’s been so long since I filmed them, I don’t remember what their gripes were.

Also, I’ve never seen a phantom XT in person. But I’d be willing to lay down some big money that when you visit the two in person they’re going to vary greatly in quality. Not saying that Fantom builds a poor teardrop. Just saying that I’ve never seen anybody get it right within the first 5 years. it takes time, many iterations, and miles on the road. Camp Inn has been perfecting this build longer than anybody out there.

@PlayingwithSticks Thank you so much for the in-depth response! I've watched enough of your content to be wary of the partial galley hatch, but I'd never considered the mud issue before. It's been difficult trying to find a quality teardrop with bunks. Colorodo Teardrops is sadly out of business, Hiker/ROG/TC Teardrops all have galleys that aren't really for me, and I've heard of some quality issues with Bend (though I can't personally confirm that). I wish Bean or Vestibule had bunk options for two young kiddos.
