You're all a decade late to the party. Myself and all the other "legacy coaches" (me, Robert Lunte, Brett Manning, Eric Arceneux, James Lugo etc) on KZbin were saying he was miming in his videos 10 years ago. We just never said it outright in our videos for fear it would look petty. The subject of Ken being asked to join all these bands was just another in a long list of Ken lies that he never could foresee people being able to check years later. Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue and Neal Schon of Journey have both denied these claims and have outright said they have NO IDEA who he is.

As a vocal coach for over 20 years, the whole point of vocal training is to allow the performer to sing however they want, as long as it is safe and won’t harm the voice. Sting chooses to use a breathy tone, Freddie wanted to allow that smooth offset. It’s not wrong, or poor technique, it’s just a performance choice. A good vocal coach has ‘no opinion’ just listens to the ‘facts’. Simply from these statements alone , make me think, that this is a not a person who actually understands the vocal mechanics.

Ken Tamplin was actually a pretty good singer, in the early 90's, it's the stuff he's miming to. However, like everyone else, his voice has changed over the years, he can't hit the notes he used and just can't deal with that fact. I'm not a singer so I don't have the expertise to critique his teaching ability, but it's pretty sad to see his livelihood going down in flames because of his ego. Just admit you're not the best in the world, you're not even the best version of yourself anymore, it's fine, it happens to all of us as we age, but to sit there and claim "Nah, it's me, I really am that guy" in the face of facts is just sad.

More and more Tamplin is striking me as a guy whose learned ALL THE THEORY (at least on guitar), but who doesnt have the ability to really put it all together on the 'big stage'. He's competent, to be sure, but no where near 'virtuoso' or 'guru' level. Even his Motley Crue and Journey 'auditions' aren't terrible - if he's actually singing, that is - but he sounds like any other 'decent' bar band singer. Talent and skills to be sure, but not in that upper echelon where he THINKS he belongs. That Foreigner audition was pretty rough tho. Too nasally, even compared to the original. The 'skill' of music is fairly easy to learn, it's developing your own style to compliment your skillset that sets the greats apart. Cobain was NOT a technically gifted musician, but he built killer tracks around the skills he DID have.

So many complaining about him, I fell down his lying rabbit hole. I watched a man sing who’d taken his singing lessons, it was sad to watch as he was a lovely innocent man. @ Some have mentioned he could be a narcissist. I knew one. I’m not saying Ken is one. But the narcissist I met was never ever wrong. He ‘was’ a friend of a friend. Polite at first, then lied like heck, everything he did was right and everyone else was wrong. He told me he was an ambulance driver, he never was. The lies were shocking and emotionally hurtful to people. I got accused of things I never did. Haven’t seen him in years thank goodness. But when I saw Ken it reminded me of him a bit.

Wow. He's related by marriage or something to an engineer/keyboardist friend of mine back when I lived in the L.A. area, like 30 years ago. I heard his name a lot through my friend, but I never really heard Ken at the time. Then I started seeing his videos on YT recently and cringed. I felt he was trying way too hard. Trying to force becoming a star, and overhyping oneself... that's so L.A. Reminds me why I got out. Yes, perhaps I gave up my shot at music success, but I preserved my dignity and sanity.
