I also wanted to add but totally forgot, this will be built in South Carolina and should be able to spec a nice one for under $80k (for tax credit purposes 👌) Also, a huge thanks to Tyler at Volvo for helping us bend the rules to sit inside of this display unit while the other vehicle was being slammed with so many people. EX90 just seems so right. Can’t wait for it to hit the roads ⚡️

@@ericklein5097 understood, but I presume that I'm not alone in watching these videos on a large-screen desktop computer. Furthermore, good dedicated video cameras can cost a lot less to buy than the iPhone 12 or 13, whose expense is not high because of the camera...

Volvo and Polestar are absolutely killing it. Like-for-like compared to the competition (BMW iX, Tesla Model X, Audi Q8 E-Tron etc) they're offering a noticeably cheaper and yet better product.

What no one talks about is how much of this tech comes from Geely.

@@PeteLenz true for certain components, but I'd argue that LIDAR and infotainment are the biggest innovations, so Luminar and Google / NVIDIA would be the companies to thank for those. That being said, it's unlikely that it'd be profitable to put these technologies into the P3 & EX90 unless cost synergies were found from the economies of scale that Geely provides, so your point does stand.

@@shankhadeepshome3982 well for one, the P3 isn't produced by an insecure, petulant, temperamental man-child. Second, build quality and infotainment is superior. While I do agree it is a competitively priced product as compared to competitors (especially Audi and Tesla), the EX90 seems to fall slightly short to the BMW iX. Range seems to be quite a bit less, but we will have to wait for real world tests of course. In terms of interior, I do think the Volvo falls short of the BMW’s. Most notably, the performance figure is quite a bit less, with the performance version of the EX90 having over 100 less HP than the BMW, and driving dynamics are likely not as good. While I definitely agree the Volvo is more appealing to the eyes, I do not think it is really a better product than the BMW (unless you’re looking for a 3rd row). Surprisingly, the BMW is wider and taller than the EX90 as well. Overall, amazing product from Volvo for sure, but BMW’s offering is extremely competitive with this as well. Kyle called the iX “the best electric SUV on sale” a few weeks ago, and it’s easy to see why.

I love Volvo as well, the only thing holding me back is the Google OS in it. Certainly it can most likely run Apple Carplay and/or Android Auto into it, however I really prefer car manufacturer OS systems like Tesla or some others do. We all know that Google and some other firms stop updates after a certain time and only focus on newer models. So basically the ‘base’ OS should not be Google, nor Apple or Amazon’s. And then I have not started on the Privacy aspect yet. However, it is definitly a beauty. 🙂

I think that Apple could produce an excellent OS for cars... Their CarPlay basically sucks, but then it's just a band-aid for crappy infotainment systems out there now... Let Apple design the instrument and main computer screens, but mandate that climate and audio controls be placed back into physical buttons/dials -- and you'll get an awesome system.

The bigger issue is that BEV automakers absolutely *have* to start focusing huge attention on the public-charging infrastructure! They must help build out EA, Chargepoint, etc., but also push for daily maintenance/oversight of them, preferably by adding covered charging stations and full-time attendants with food (like the "food marts" at most gas stations today). If you get public-charging stations maintained and attractive, the range issues become much less in importance (and tech improvements will address that anyway with time, as well as charging speeds, whereas the actual public charging stations need to be in place NOW, not later).

@@KyleConner As Jonny Smith (The Late Brake Show) noted in his review of the Polestar 3, it really is essentially a Cross Country wagon in BEV form (roof height, ground clearance, etc.); it is not an SUV...

You will see more models from Volvo in the coming months/years. Based on smaller platforms, with less functions but also a more affordable price. The focus on CES is the Google interaction of the car, which is most likely the reason why you did not get the full chance to interact with the vehicle fully, cause I can tell you most of the things you spoke about which you did not get to see, is functional in the very car you reviewed. You can check the reveal here on youtube to check more.

@13:47 The wireless charger in my EV6 does not heat up my phone and charges it rather quickly even while using wireless AA (via an adapter). Wireless chargers heat up phones when it's not properly aligned to the coil and/or does not have enough ventialtion from my experience.

If I was there in Kyle’s place, it would go like: VOLVO REP: “blah blah blah Thor’s hammer headlights blah blah blah . . .” ME: “Ooohhhhh! Dumptruck!”

How come you did ask about the lidar performance in the snow? What if snow gets on the lidar camera? Is there heating, will the wiper spray knock off any snow or icy build up?

I have an XC40 Recharge and the only disappointment to me is the range. This one was an instant reservation for me

I really hope over engineered things like the moving lights & the automated door handle’s don’t make it to mass production. I love this vehicle, but stuff like that adds pointlessly to the cost & adds points of failure. Love the lidar on the roof though: that’s where it needs to be.

All of these upcoming EV SUVs really make me appreciate Rivian’s design! Love this Volvo but Rivian’s front storage (and overall) is extremely impressive! Even when compared to other luxury vehicles.

I heard that the new Volvo EX90 is going to have a self driving system called Ride Pilot and the new Ride Pilot system will basically allow you to take your hands off the wheel and your eyes off the road and Volvo’s Ride Pilot system is basically Pilot Assist 3 and i can’t wait to see you make a video of the Ride Pilot

about the headlight, how does dipper (pass light) work with high beam hidden behind DRL? Does the DRLs flash in place of high beam?

I really love this vehicle. In regards to that lidar location, it seems like the downside would be road debris easily hitting it. How much is a rock chip gonna cost you in insurance? May have to lower the deductible lol.

Looks like a separate glass over the windshield that covers the lidar. Probably easily changeable just like the windshield. Here in Sweden with Volvos insurance changing the windshield is about $150. I imagine it would be simillar to change that glass so it is not a big cost, atleast over here.
