I took delivery of an R1T in Feb23, and so far, I would agree with your overview and assessment. I have not had the same issues you had, but mine is also a much newer build. Since owning it, I would say that Rivian is on a mission, and legacy makers can learn a lot from the R1 vehicles, as Rivian is only at the beginning. If they successfully bring the more affordable but luxurious R2 vehicles to market, they will take off like a rocket.

I have one, got it last year in Sept. I had the opportunity to flip it and make ~10-15k EASY, I chose to keep it. And im 100% happy with my decision. After this truck, if Rivian is still ran the same way, making the same high quality, high content products, I'll buy another. Made me a customer for life!
@AnonymousFreakYT Жыл бұрын
Yep. We got ours in August. We also had a preorder for an F-150 Lightning (made _during_ the launch event!) If Ford hadn't completely screwed over preorder holders (I didn't even get the "okay, place your order now!" invite until *NOVEMBER*, by which time they had raised the price significantly, and an extended range would no longer qualify for tax credit,) I likely would have flipped the Rivian and gone with the (what should have been cheaper) Lightning. But by the time I was able to order, the cheapest Extended Range would have cost *MORE* than the Rivian, for a much lower-end truck. So kept the Rivian, and loving every minute of it. Literally the only thing I would have liked about the Lightning was the higher-power V2L and V2H capability. I have run my travel trailer's power off my Rivian a couple times, but because Rivian tops out at 120V 12A, I couldn't run the AC, whereas a Lightning would have been able to. And Rivian is supposedly getting V2H with a software update at some point once standards-compliant V2H solutions come to market (which should be early next year.) I would have been fine with the "low end" Lightning PRO if they'd have been willing to sell consumers the ER battery model. But since you had to do at least XLT to get ER, then you had to add a $10,000 option package to even have the ability to select ER, the Lariat was the most reasonable choice - only a couple thousand more for a Lariat ER over an XLT ER, and that couple thousand bought you a lot more features. But post price increase the cheapest ER ended up over $80,000. So Ford added $8000 to the price, which then removed $7500 in tax credit, making it cost effectively $15k+ more. Where my Rivian got the tax credit. So the actual "after tax credit" priced difference was nearly $10,000. When the Lightning should have been cheaper.

But by the time i was able to order one, prices had up and was more expensive than the rivian w less features. Some times I regret not flipping it initially. But I still love the truck.

I can honestly say that I planned to flip it for a bit of profit, but the damn thing has become a vehicle that I enjoy, and every update has made it a much better vehicle. I have searched for a vehicle that I would replace the R1T with should I sell it, and I have come to realize that there isn’t anything out there, truck-wise, that I would rather have instead of the R1T. The NACS announcement sealed it for me; the R1T will remain in my garage for in the foreseeable future.
@notspm9157 Жыл бұрын
Couple issues though that most won't realize 1. If lets say you back into something and the panel is damaged you are in for a large bill since the panel wraps all the way to pretty much the front of the vehicle. There are a few people who have been hit by this and it costs a ton to replace 2. You get a lot with the R1T but that's also because they are spending more money putting all that stuff in so they don't make money on it. It either means the truck is severely under priced so will need to increase in price or Rivian will go belly up and then it will be a huge nightmare if you need to get it serviced

Fun fact: in Long Way Up, 2 R1T trucks were put to the test during a 100-day, 13,000-mile trip from Ushuaia, Argentina to Los Angeles, California, USA- and even through the Darién Gap. All of the producers and filmmakers had their fair share of fun and hard times, and the Rivians did malfunction a few times- sometimes hardware, sometimes software- but everything made it to the end. Having used many different brands of Lithium batteries in model airplanes, several factors involving the cell design and construction can affect performance during charge and discharge. First the chemistry, and also the choices that affect internal resistance of the battery cells and pack. More resistance means more heat. So it may just be cell or pack design that limits performance.

Rivian used a single sheet metal component from the back top edge of the bed/fenders all the way to the top of the windshield. If that gets hit, it can damage multiple areas connected to that giant body element. Saw a video that reported a $47k repair bill to fix pretty minor damage. 34:30 The 0 to 1 rpm weakness might explain the rationalization of deleting *_Tank Turn Mode._* It's not "crazy" terrain, it's on the edge of my driveway, just outside the garage, "crossed up" driving across a dipi (diagonal wheels weighted, with the other two tires not having traction) … it's stuck and will not deliver enough torque to turn the tire with the most traction. Hopefully the R2T and R2S have totally resolved the "zero to one rpm" problem, and the absurdly inadequate battery cooling. I forgive Rivian for these failures in the R1 because I think they made the right decision to bring the truck to market rather add more months or a year of delays … it was a 2018 reveal , 3 years late, so early 2021 was a good decision to satisfy 95% of owners who won't want zero rpm torque or 250kW charging and just want their big EV that they ordered 3 years prior! : ) Again, the R1.1, the R2, the R3, have had 3+ years to learn from the R1.0 so let's see what they've learned and what they've produced.

Great write up. People are going to be in for a rude awakening once these are out of warranty and the air suspension begins to fault, and it will fault. The load position sensors are usually the first to go, followed by the compressor or struts themselves. Even Lexus had long term issues with their systems and most are removed and scrapped for traditional springs. I love adjustable suspension but it is a huge long term liability on any vehicle.

@@mini2nut67 Very wise of them! It’s simply not a durable way to suspend a vehicle that has an extended service or inspection schedule. It works well in commercial applications like semi trucks etc because they have incredibly robust and simplified systems with engine driven oil bath compressors, not to mention routine inspections by owners and DOT. I predict the Rivian will be the “Land Rover” of EV pickups due to it’s complexity and vulnerable subsystems. The 12 volt alone has really had some teething issues for many owners, which makes me question if a 12v winch is even possible with these things. Amazing pickups no doubt! I am on the fence between a used etron vs a new r1s. Luckily I placed my order prior to the rate increase and believe I can still get the write off on my 2022 taxes. Which of the two cars would you choose based on ride quality, interior, audio and overall driving experience? Our other vehicle is the Volvo xc90 recharge so that is our road tripper. Not sure the increased size of the Rivian matters as well due to the xc90. Mostly plan to use it as my daily commuter but mildly concerned about the shorter range on the used etrons. I have drive an etron and found the air suspension to be mind blowing compared to any other vehicle I have driven.

KZbin... They've been really bad lately in processing UHD video uploads. Some content creators are starting to upload in 1080 or 720 to speed it up.

Dude, you have to upload these long videos as a DRAFT first and let them finishing rendering before you publish them. 360p is bruuuuutal. You can schedule them to publish 4-6 hours later to give all the rendering time to do its work. Plus, scheduling to publish the next morning is going to do better for view counts than publishing mid-day.

Just a heads up, if you block the rooftop antenna with you rtt, it significantly degrades highway assist availability and functionality.

I don't agree with the opinion about the front trunk. I like that you have the option to use the front trunk as an ice chest, and you can not do that with the lighting.

Hey Kyle, I’m a big fan of your channel!! Love your videos! With that being said, I know what you are saying that the Rivian R1T is the best vehicle you’ve ever owned. However, don’t you think that with all the vehicles you own and options you have accessible, that it keep you from longing for options or being less upset about problems when you can just hop in another car with those options and such? If this was your only vehicle, meaning road trips, charging, daily driver… never being able to barrow your dad’s car or jump in the Tesla, would you be able to say the same thing? I guess in short what I’m saying is if everyone had the ability to buy multiple cars for multiple purposes, then anyone would love the R1T. However if the truck was bricked or it had a charging issue or software was slow or locking up as we have all seen multiple issues with the truck in other videos and you had no other means, I’m not sure you would feel the same way. Right now you can just jump in another vehicle and say oh well I’ll get it back whenever. To be clear I own a Tesla and love it. I cringe when I see videos and read the terrible experiences that people have with other EVs. I have a close friend that got a KIA EV6 and in a couple of months the system was so screwed up Kia bought it back and gave him a new one, fast forward 8 months later and the new EV6 he got is back at Kia and it won’t charge and they are talking about buying that one back as well. I would love to hear your opinion on the R1T in this context. Again keep up the Great work!!!

Great video Kyle. QQ for ya. What tire and wheel combo would you recommend for Colorado all year round driving? Are the 22” sport wheels with AS tires sufficient or should I consider the 20’s with AS’s? I just don’t wana have any issues in snow and would prefer not to have to run a dedicated pair of wheels and tires for the snow if at all possible 😊

A lot of people are reviewing vehicles and talking about road noise. Can out of spec start measuring ambient and active cab noise curing varying road conditions to compare vehicles? Seems like something you can have mic’s set up with throughout the cab and compare between all these different vehicles. Thanks - K

I'm thinking of purchasing an EV truck for mountain driving. Since you have driven both, which vehicle do you think would be better at off-roading and overlanding, Rivian R1T or Hummer EV Truck?
