The limited just has so many "must haves" to deny. If you can afford it, it's a no brainer. The other trims will get you from A-B but the limited just looks so much better and has the wanted features.

Trim level difference is kind of on par with the Tucson Hybrid. I opted for the Limited and I don't regret it. Even for $5K more. The 360 surround view, memory seats, and blind spot view cameras are worth it.

Those chargers kind of look familiar... The outdoor review of the Limited was shot at the new(ish) EA chargers about 2 miles from my house. I remember that 70 degree day; the next day it was in the 30's. Yes, the Limited is definitely the way to go. The roof really changes the car, and the heads up display is transformative. However, after test driving both the Ioniq 5 and the sibling Kia EV6, the Kia's handling is much more to my liking. I'm shopping around for one now.

Trims are completely different here in Europe (Benelux). Fortunately the sun roof is something you can remove on each trim (ordered a lounge edition here). The sun roof sits 4.5cm lower. Which is a huge issue here in The Netherlands. Considering we're all giants.

New Ioniq 5 SEL RWD owner. Living in FL, I’m glad that this model doesn’t have a glass roof, which leads to a baking of the interior even in the winter. I like the leatherette seating surfaces, and not having the reduced range of the AWD reduces my range anxiety. Call me old skool, but I don’t use driver assistance-too invasive for my driving style.

Going sans glass roof will definitely quiet down the ride a bit with the extra headliner insulation. I tend to drive around with a roof rack and/or roof box, sometimes with ladders and other noisy items on the roof, a glass roof would probably be annoying as all hell.

I know the Ioniq 5 has a tow rating of 2,000 lbs., but nobody can tell me if it's possible to order one *with* the tow hitch installed. Gotta know that to pull a tiny 265 lb. camping trailer before I could take the plunge.

The tow hitch is on the list of 'Port Installed Accessories'. So, I guess it depends on whether your dealer is actually letting you 'order' your car while it is still in-transit, or if they are only selling off the dealership floor.

It's surprising Hyundai doesn't provide a simple trim level comparison on Hyundai's web page. Features like memory seats and V2L shouldn't be tied to Limited trim. I don't understand people's fascination with glass roofs. It's one feature I generally try to avoid because hail in Texas will take out the roof.

Didn't mention the heat pump addition from the essential trim to the preferred trim. It's more stuff that can break, but it's a range extender in cold & hot climates because it's more efficient than traditional aircon or resistive electric heat.

A super comparison of the three models! Thank you so much. One issue no one has covered is the necessity of AWD for winter driving. I have had a front engine, front wheel drive vehicle for years and have had no problems with NE Ohio winter. Is an AWD EV really necessary under these circumstances? With a rear wheel drive only configuration you would be saving money on the purchase price, reduce the vehicle’s weight and complexity and not have to give up the range - considerable in some cases - of AWD . Any thoughts on this by anyone? Thank you

Agree you would most likely be fine with RWD; especially since the motor sits over the rear axle. You would however be giving up more power; although I have driven the RWD and it seemed fine to me from a performance perspective. You will also lose the heat pump which could hurt range in the Winter months. Thanks for watching!
@moonsapling
@moonsapling Жыл бұрын
If you dont plan on going offroading (which this vehicle isnt made for) RWD is all you need. It has absolutely enough power to travel comfortably and the money you save on AWD you can spend on good tires. Also dont forget the fact that the electric motor sits on the rear axle and combined with very precise traction control and good tires I highly doubt you will have any issues even in snow. A friend of mine has a Ioniq 5 Long Range RWD, he has winter tires on jt and it had no trouble climbing to the ski resort unlike some AWD SUVs with bad tires which struggled to get through what we did. If you dont need 300hp then you wont miss the AWD. It acts like RWD 99% of the time anyways.

I rather the HUD on the mid spec on the Ev6 too which I've seen on other KZbin channel (Kia Hyundai channel) you can go in the settings and change the height higher or lower for each driver preference. What also gets me about these cars with a big pano glass roof is they don't open here N. AMERICA but I seen in a Phillipines video the Id.4 roof opens. I want an open roof why pay for glass hot box and it doesn't open for $1-$2k extra. Also why they give Asia an open roof and US fixed glass when Asians constantly have monsoon downpour rains is beyond me. 🤣🤣Give us all open roofs not everyone has to be another Tesla. That mid spec would be just fine with HUD heated&cool seats and a decent moonroof. ✅

Here's an interesting question. How does the range on a RWD extended range compare to using an AWD trim in eco mode (ie RWD mode)?I doubt it's exactly the same because of the extra weight of a 2nd motor.

I live in the desert. The last thing I'd want in a car is a glass roof. I've heard news stories of glass failures in extreme cold conditions too.

Great video! Thanks for putting this together. I just realized I live in the same neighborhood from recognizing the shopping center where you were charging. I didn’t know that there was an charging station in Hartsdale. Did you end up purchasing the Ioniq 5 from the Hartsdale dealership?

I like the black trim on the sides, especially on that color. Too bad we only get silver trim in Europe.

Great comparison though it seems like the SE model is the one I would want to have. I'd rather have cloth seats and really would never want a sun-roof.

Heads up display, I love how that's a big deal again. My 2001 grand Prix GTP had it. FYI windshield that have that tend to cost 3+times the amount to replace bc a special coating, well back then they did

It looks like a nice car. I would only consider the limited model, however as you said, a year or 2 from now 2-3k extra is just a memory. With that in mind, why wouldn't I just buy a proven Tesla model Y?

I was thinking the same it’s the ladder effect. 🤔🤔🤔I’ll go SE wait I can get the SEL for 3k more but then again I can get the limited for 3k more but wait I can get a Tesla for 61k Funny how our minds work and pockets get bigger with each step. The bummer for me was it’s expensive to insure and most importantly it won’t be available as of now until Jan 2023.

se is much better in Europe. It has ventilation in the back. auto dimming rearview mirror. auto wipers. heat in steering wheel. wireless charging. automatic folding of side mirrors. Missing electric driver's seat. costs $ 45625

The "Limited" must stand for Limited Availability if they're producing so few of the Limited model trims 😐

I am on the pre-order list...and I can say I am VERY disappointed with my local dealership. They are marking up all Ioniq 5 models $10k. Ludicrous.

Shop around; if you are willing to travel, I am quite confident you will be able to find many SE and SEL’s at MSRP; and perhaps a few limited models as well. Last I checked, Hyundai 112 on Long Island is MSRP with a $175 doc fee and no dealer prep as an example. Good luck to you and start calling around! It’s a great car

Shows their integrity. I walked away from one that was asking 5k over. They called me 2 hours later to say they will take it down 1k and I sent him a picture of the invoice of the SE I bought at msrp.

So many reviewers mention that the steering wheel blocks the view of the speedometer. This is a big issue. I hope Hyundai take that complaint to heart and moves (or provides a user option to move) the speedo location on the instrument cluster. This is a safety issue that can't be overlooked.
@p3rrypm
@p3rrypm 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not an issue, the steering wheel is fully adjustable and shifting it up about a half inch opened up the whole dash, without altering the feel of the ride all that much.

@@p3rrypm moving the steering wheel up definitely makes you feel like a granny driving with your hands in front of your face. it is a big issue, but much less so with the AR HUD.

Our speedo displays on the windshield and the steering wheel is adjustable besides. The wheel can go up or down just like the seat can go up or down. It's a non issue.
