@libfit9068 the WNBA players have a collective bargaining agreement. They get paid on the current numbers. The current numbers the league operates at a $10 million a year LOSS. Going forward will viewership numbers rise.. will attendance rise MAYBE. You are talking about the numbers of a college championship game. Those numbers were FANTASTIC good job by the women. No way to predict what the WNBA will do..but based on past seasons..numbers are terrible. Even if they improve...the cost of the WNBA League pass is $34.99. For every game of every team the whole season. Right now the business is not profitable or viable and is subsidized by the Men's league. Instead of being outraged...everyone should right now either sing up for the League Pass or get season tickets for a local team. Besides some these ladies picked in the first round will make MILLIONS in endorsements. Complaining about their league salaries right now makes ZERO SENSE and smells of fake outraged sensationalism by non sports fans that just repeat what they hear because it sounds good. The outrage should be coming from the men, not the women. NBA players receive 41% of the $10.58 billion dollars the league made in revenue last season. To be “equal” that same standard should be applied to the WNBA and their $200 million revenue, which would pay an average salary of about 4K to each player. Fair is fair, to say the women deserve more money only displays ones ignorance on the subject.

The NBA has 30 teams playing a 82 game regular season. The WNBA has 12 teams, this year, playing 40 games each. The NBA's TV deal pays $2.8 billion whereas the WNBA gets $65 million. The NBA gets $93m per team or $1.1m per team/per game. The WNBA gets $5.4m per team or $135k per team/per game. I would image all other revenue numbers are also this far apart. It would be nice for the women to make more but it's going to take way more fans, higher ratings, and time to get to any sort of equality.

Here's what women don't understand. The NBA/WNBA is a business. That is the #1 goal.....making money. What drives profit? And ratings? Demand. It's a free market system and public demand drives success. Asking the WNBA to pay the same salaries that the NBA does or even close is not possible because the WNBA does not sell anywhere near the # of tickets that the NBA does. So the WNBA does not have the $ to pay more. It's like forcing min wage to $20/hour at all fast food restaurants. They can't afford that so if they do that they will have to increase menu prices to pass on to the consumer which in turn will probably slow sales which hurts the companies more. I understand women may feel it sucks, etc but like I said....its the free market system. You can stand at the entrance to an NBA game and call all the fans sexist if you like but that won't help you much. The reason the NBA makes more is because it's more exciting. I'm sorry but that's the truth. Women can't do 75% of the things the men can. It's mostly layups, passes and 3 pointers in the WNBA. People just aren't going to pay $50-$100 a ticket to see that. Just stating the facts. But I don't have much sympathy because the WNBA players are still making more than I am.

Plus, how much more do NBA players make now than players did when the league was only 26 years old? It took Magic and Bird to rekindle interest in the NBA. People that work typically make enough revenue to support and maintain their business. The exception comes from government jobs. The WNBA has never once had a profitable year in its existence. It loses money every year, the fact that the league still exists is dependent on the subsidies from the NBA. The Revenue comes from Ticket sales, Concessions, Merchandise sales etc... Where do ticket sales and merchandise sales come from? Those come from Fans. Where do fans come from? Yeah, that's the thing, most women don't care about sports and those who do, care about the top level men's game (like men do). That's the reality of all sports fandoms, they watch because they want to see the best human beings at that sport, not the best of a particular gender. No one is interested in most lower male leagues either. Some women's sports do have some prestige and create multi-millionaire female athletes like tennis and MMA, but even then, it's not on the same level as the top men.
