Damn near caused me to spit out my drink from laughter when you mentioned the possibility of a local tyre shop having those wheels. Great vid as always Chief.

"Now, unfortunately, time hasn't been kind to the old girl." And neither have the Russians, presumably. Didn't I read somewhere that Kubinka has a standing policy of not expending much time or effort on The Enemy's Toys, even after all this time?

Wow! An really interesting vehicle and the only remaining as well! It unfortunate that the interior has been completely stripped off but I saw at last how the Germans solved the nodding problem by reinforcing the last rear torsion bars by a mechanical device for each side! Despite having an excellent gun albeit by having a 2 piece charging, my opinion is that it never went in production because of its too thin armour and by being too underpowered and having a too long chassis therfore stressing the steering differentials every time it had to slew in order to aim its cannon because of its limited training range! It is true that it was only utilized on long distance targets but once it starts shooting it almost automatically becomes a target! Keep going!

So, why did the Soviet museums gut the interiors of their priceless one of a kind military history artifacts again?....... At least they DID preserve it....after a fashion..... For a 1942 afv, 50mm of armor wasn't bad. The Sturer Emil did apparently rack up kills proportionate to it's numbers that were quite impressive. The firepower in conjunction with a weight roughly equivalent to a late war Sherman made this vehicle seem more sensible than some of the monsters the German military did field in larger numbers. If Sturer Emil had been fitted with the engine ultimately used in the Tiger I, it would have been quite mobile. Another great vid from the Chieftain!

They weren't "priceless one of a kind military artifacts" when it was taken, it was just some weird one-off gun the enemy built to shoot at them. Every nation built all sorts of weird prototypes and experimental vehicles, some of them were used in combat, some weren't. How were the Soviets supposed to know that someday this particular vehicle would be venerated by a generation of Internet game players who love to lionize their hated enemies they are engaged in a bitter war of extermination with. Not that they have any access to data about how many of them were built at the time anyway. Until after the war when they get a chance to review factory production figures, all they knew is that it's some new and uncommon type of assault gun. Nothing special or sacred or work carefully preserving for all time. Which it isn't really. They built two of them. They didn't affect the course of the war, they werent served on by thousands of young men who should be honored. They were dead end footnotes in history. Not that they necessarily tore everything out, the vehicle may have been fire damaged when it was captured.

Great post and thanks for it! As for Emil's extra long name . . . I read a lot of WW2 data in hopes of gradually, grudgingly, getting some of it right. It's Selbstfahrlafette (Self-Propelled Mount). Selbst (self) Fahr (vehicle) Lafette (mounting) or "SF" as in "PzSf VI fur 12.8cmPaK" (or, alternately, PjK). Being able to read them is a minor victory. Spelling them (for the non German speaker) is simple drudgery and pronunciation, for me, at least, is a work of Guess and Gimmee. Gotta love those compound words. Panzerselbstfahrlafette VI fur 12.8cm PanzerJager Kanone 40/L56 . . . small wonder we US folks called our tanks by patronymics.
@stanislavczebinski9942 жыл бұрын
Selbstfahrlafette - Selbst (self) fahr (literally: driving - meaning: propelled) and Lafette is of cause (mounting). We German speakers are, obviously, used to these super-long words. Without thinking about it we chop them into handy pieces. If you know it's name - you know what it does. In English, names are usually easier - but you have to ask for it's function. Greetings from Germany!!

Great video of a VERY RARE WWII German vehicle!!! Surprised that the Soviets even kept the one they captured. Think 2 were produced and saw combat at Stalingrad, according to sources that I have read. I have built a 1:35 scale model of this vehicle and looks just awesome - just like the actual vehicle.

Mr Chieftain would you ever consider coming to the Canadian War museum in Ottawa. We got some cool stuff too.
@Psiberzerker2 жыл бұрын
Amazing how light that thing is, considering the chassis, and that gun. It was just a Assault Gun. After it did it's job (The other spontaneously combusted) it was pressed into an anti-tank role, for which it would never be suitable.
@BingBongFYaLife10 жыл бұрын
ive always been curious as to what the decision making process is on choosing the next chieftain's hatch video. Why did you guys choose to do this tank next? Also did you make a series of videos while in the museum?(like shoot a video for all the tanks in the museum, and slowly release them over time?)

HungQDang /shrug It's easier to pronounce than english, that's for sure. Mainly because it's pronounced exactly as it's spelled. Unlike most of the english words that are derived from french and/or latin.

Max and Moritz. Eine Bubengeschichte in sieben Streichen
@chrisderochwr46706 жыл бұрын
every German speaking child knows Max and Moritz. They are two devilish boys who play vicious pranks on their adult neighbors and, of course, get their eventual just desserts. It is altogether fitting that a pair of one off vehicles in the German army would be named Max and Moritz. Is this one Max or Moritz?

because you did, stupid....selbst is a word, and fahr is a word...you took half of both... ar do is also jibberish, car door is a real thing...just because you're stupid doesn't mean the language is weird^^

I meant the transition between those words is incredibly hard if you don't know how to pronounce german words.

@Cobra6Gaming10 жыл бұрын
Slow down when you pronounce German and articulate, it's much easier that way ;) - While this TD has great potential the WoT version severely lets it down in terms of grind and performance. For instance there is really *no* reason why this vehicle should not be able to mount the top 88 gun of the Jagdpanther as an intermediate gun between the lousy 10,5 and the top 12,8. Additionally the lousy top speed and horrible camo make this thing effectively just a big XP pinata.
