Is the cabin growing on you...or what is it.... You are both looking stronger, wiser and more beautiful day by day. Wise advice from your lovely wife, and wise decision of yours to follow it... I too got scared at time watching you jumping like an agile squirrel on those wet logs on a rainy day. God bless you, your wife, little girl and dad. You are all awesome, inspirational and a sure sign of hope and humanity in this world that seem at times so harsh until, like you, we focus on and do what’s good and beautiful and keep evils thoughts and peoples at bay. Keep up the good work, the cabin looks already awesome. Thanks for being that beacon of goodness to so many of us. Pierre from tiny Switzerland

Interesting that you used screws for your boards on the roof. Built my own cabin and used both nails and screws for bits and parts of it. But in the end I'm convinced that galvanized nails (not from a nail gun) are in the end the strongest choice. And completely agree with the previous comment on 'rafters attached to purlins'. Maybe a few more screws, or better (as I did) just some more leg-bolts.

As a retired Certified Safety Professional I appreciate your presentation to the world on fall protection safety. I personally had several employees saved by proper fall protection. As a suggestion twin retractable lanyards (6ft) are available and you may find those to be much less in your way while working plus they can always be kept tight against your anchorage point which will give you a greater security. Beautiful build I love your show! Marc, Ohio USA

MCG CSP Marc another thing he needs to think about is if he does fall, he should have another person with him to help him down. I was so happy to see that you purchased a harness to protect yourself. I was concerned many times. I appreciate you as a husband and father as I understand how hard it is to look after your family day in and out, so having this cabin for a break from your normal routine is very good for your mind and soul. My husband looks after me and although I know it is hard on him he doesn’t complain and still smiles and jokes with me. We are retired now which I think makes caring for our partner a little easier to bear, than when you are young, but love is a wonderful thing to give us the endurance to last the years. I pray your wife has many good days ahead and that her health continues to improve with time. God bless you and your family. Please stay safe and strong.

I won't lie, the GoPro on your head shows things in such a perspective that I was on the edge of my seat. Thought you were gonna fall for sure. I watch another YT channel by a young man in Russia. He uses a short army shovel to peel the bark off of trees. The bark just slides off like butter...maybe you could try? The harness was such a good idea...Smart Wife you have there (hope her health is stable). I realized I was holding my breath when you are up that high. So excited to see the roof closed to being finished. I have watched you since the beginning and it has been one of my favorite pastimes. I like to snack or have tea ready before I hit play. I Hope Dad is doing well...though he misses his life companion. God Bless and Keep Safe.

I'm so happy you got the harness. My son used to be an ironworker, working high steel. One day he had a fall, he got lucky and was able to grab a cable on the way down, luckily wearing leather gloves. He ended up swinging like a pendulum halfway between floors. He yanked his back and was bruised up his thighs where he was hitting against the floor level. He was pulled up and only off work for a few weeks. It could have been so much worse. Luckily I didn't hear about it until after. Take care and stay safe.

I view many online private construction projects where safety is often overlooked. Falls from heights are common in the construction sector, particularly in residential housing. As a member of the Prevention Council of the Ministry of Labour Immigration and Skills Development I applaud your decision to use a safety harness. There are many other tasks involved in carrying out such projects, whether it be using chain saws or sawmills that also present safety risks. You set a good example for others who view your channel.

I AM VERY HAPPY YOU FINALLY HAVE A HARNESS!!!!!!!! Yes they are a pain to deal with, but you get used to it in a very short time, and considering how short of a time it takes for an accident to happen, having a proper fall arrest harness like the one you have, it takes a bit longer than a fall does, to change the outcome for the better. Thank You for getting the harness!!!!!!!!!! WOW, it's amazing how 1/2 of the Sheathing makes the cabin look more like a home and less like your playing Jenga in the woods. It's truly great to see the roof finally coming to its finishing, it's been a long time coming. I started watching the channel when you were adding the course under the window frames, and unless I'm wrong I think you said then that it was over a year at that point since you started the build? So I think it's now been over 3 years since you started the build of the cabin??? The roof has been a long time coming!!!!! Great to see it finally coming to fruition. Hopefully you'll be able to move in just before the first snow or shortly thereafter. Peace, Happiness, Love and Laughter, Keep Safe All, -Matt

As someone who has used safety harnesses for years, I have discovered the glorious invention of the retractable cable "yo-yo" instead of the standard tie-off straps. They don't get in the way because they retract and extend as you move around. Drastically reducing the burden of moving your tie-off point as frequently. Not sure if you would use it enough to justify buying one but to anyone reading the comments that uses harnesses on a regular basis, it's great.

Just got this latest post. I have an idea. I am glad to see you got a harness. You need to read this, I think it will help. Go to the end of your roof and at the center posts on both ends install you a pole on each end then attach a cable between the two ends, you can use that cable to attach your harness as soon as you get on the roof and it will run from one end to another. Hope this helps. My Momma and me are all the way in SE KY and watch you vids regularly, we are amazed at how well you do in your build and how much you are in love with your wife and family. We both hope all is well with her, and our prayers are with you both. Until next time, be safe and God Bless you all.

I certainly can understand how difficult a 45* (12 on 12) pitch roof is to be on. My shed looked to have too flat of a roof with a 4 on 12 pitch when I drew it up so I went with a 6 on 12 (22.5*) and while being narrow added to the difficulty of not giving you room to stand/work (about 5’ 4” each side with eaves) it was still too steep to sit while working and not slide off. Much respect to you working on a steep roof like that.

I wish to say heart deep greetings to you and your family from the "Schwarzwald" in Germany. I hope my english is not so bad that you cannot understand my feelings. Cheers....

Nice to see you finish half of the roofing this far! Another milestone bites the dust. Every time I watch you use that woodmill I have to smile. It surely has been a great and useful tool for you. Good thinking 'bout that safety-gear and your explanation for it ticked every box. How's mrs Outsider doing? Hope her up-days are becoming more and more usual than her down-days. Sending my thoughts out to your wonderful family. Say hi to your dad. Until next time!

Loved it, Coming along great. So glad you got the safety equipment. I can't even imagine how many times you were up and down that ladder carrying those heavy boards. I bet it goes faster on the other side with your Dad. Great to see him also. He isn't retired yet is he? Is he also a minister? Just wondering about him. Love to see him on the build with you. You make a great team. Hope your wife is having more good days than bad. I will remember to keep her and your family in my prayers. Blessings to you all. MiChelle

Great video bud I’m really enjoying watching your progress. Great balance between footage and chatting letting us know what you are doing. And my hat goes off to you in regards listening and taking to heart over the safety harness. One thing that might help you is if you shorten one of your safety lines have one long and one short use the long as your primary line and when you are moving tie off points use the short one. It may help you not trip up over your lines as you mentioned. The thing that is available is an auto retractor you could mount in the central point of you roof it allows a lines line to role in and out under normal movements however any quick jolts and it locks up. There are heaps of different ways to do a safety line I’m sure you will find one the works well for you.

Harness I wear at work (Carpentry) has a short lead which hooks to a gizmo that you can slide up and down a single rope which attaches to a metal anchor point screwed to the top center of the roof and runs all the way to the ground. This allows you to easily work the whole roof and not have to detach until you get all the way to the ground. Also we use a 2x4 and 2x6 screwed into an L shape with GRK structural screws screwed to rafters to climb up and down, rest material and tools on etc. Would make it much easier for the other side. Get 2 courses on from a ladder. Put in L braces across the front. Have your dad hand you all the boards for sheathing to rest on the L braces. That way you don't have to go up and down a hundred times.

Nice job on the rafters and sheeting. I'm so glad you're using a safety harness now. It also was a big concern of mine. You should only disconnect one hook at a time. Tie off before you step out onto a fall area and always have one hook attached prior to removing the other hook. Had a friend, Burt a retired Navy Chief, who fell 20 ft onto his back. He got blessed in that he wasn't permanently hurt. Another Friend, AL K. had a ladder ship sideways and dropped him about 9 ft and broke his ankle at 90 degrees. It had to be fused and is a constant irritant to him. Yep take care of yourself brother, like you said it only takes one minor slip to end in a serious injury or death. Keep up the fine work, it's looking great. Tell the Mrs. we're praying for her and hope she gets well soon. Best Wishes and Blessings. Keith Noneya

Here in Belgium when we build a house or cabine in your case ,as we reach the highest point of the roof in the corner of the rafters , we attached in the corner a Fresh branch whit fresh green leaves that we cut from a tree in the area. It stands upright, and we do that so that the house or cabine would be blessed and have a peaceful and long life for itself and al the occupant whit in it . And leave it for a week ore tree. Greeting, hugues

This must be the same in most of Europe, at least in the more Germany influenced countries. In Slovenia, we do the same, but always with a top of a spruce tree.
