I Quit! Eaglemoss/Fanhome Enterprise D Build Up Disaster!

I can't take it anymore! The delays. The overengineering. The light leaks. Misinformation from Eaglemoss customer service. Batteries! Batteries! Batteries!

Eaglemoss is now in bankruptcy. They may pull out of it but I'm not holding out much hope. Their other kits might get picked up by another company but I'm guessing that the Enterprise is history considering all of its design flaws. I doubt another company wants to deal with it.

Sorry to hear about this. for $2K the kit should be very high quality. I was approached by them to promote these on my channel a few years ago and turned it down. I felt they were too pricey and I didn't feel comfortable with the long drawn out parts delivery process. After hearing of this I'm glad I did. I hope your honest appraisal reaches people so even more are not disappointed with what they get.

Very interesting! I didn't know they asked you to do one of these. It is disappointing to get this far and start seeing all the cracks in the woodwork as it were. I think if someone in their R&D department actually built the real kit and not the prototype, they would have ironed out the flaws on it. I would have kept going but with 1-3 month gaps in getting parts, I lose being "in the zone" when building this and the time frame for building gets way too long. To be honest, I actually couldn't picture you building a kit like this with your amazing skills!

@@TrekWorks The Aztec patterns are a huge problem with replicating any of these later Star Trek ships. I had brought one of the Polar Lights models and got quite a way with it but the patterning was a level or two above anything I had expected.. Its still waiting for me to finish it over five years later..

To each their own when it comes to this. I started the enterprise back when Eaglemoss first released it and have been enjoying the entire build. Like, while I do agree that there are some definite issues like the excess amount of wires and multiple power sources, I've never had much of an issue with light bleed and I've never had to do modifications. As for subscription models I guess it also depends on the person. I find the anticipation of waiting for each new volume to be exciting, regardless of how much or how little comes with it. On top of this, the once a month parts (or the sometimes bit longer wait) gives me a reason to drive and spend time with my father every month who I build these with. Ever since I moved away, subscription models are my guaranteed way to spend time with him. We currently have 2 finished and working on 2.

I have learned way more useful information about this build and Eaglemoss that has helped me other than issues with the steps. Thank you for the forewarning of the batteries too, not sure I'll finish this myself anymore.

I'm really sad that I won't be finishing this model but I just can't look at this thing realizing that it's not going to get any better. It's already been designed the way it is and there's no going back for Eaglemoss to change it now that it's in production. It should never have left the drawing board in this current configuration. The model's a mess and they know it. They should scrap it now and refund everyone and start completely over.

I did the Millennium Falcon kit and has a great experience. I was considering the Enterprise D. Once you mentioned batteries and showed that ugly switch in the neck…screw that. Saved me some money. Thx.

I can deal with the light leaks, but I agree the biggest disappointments are the battery power, and the way they handled the lighting. I'm not sure what they were thinking.

Thank you for your video I was thinking about starting this build too. But I already noticed that there are problems, I’m ok if there needs to be a little bit of moding but it gets out of scale. And the battery’s and the way how they did the electrics is a deal breaker. Also the questionable situation that you probably can’t connect the saucer section in a proper way. WTF. I only joined because a childhood friend of mine decided we'd both do the build since we enjoyed the Next Generation series growing up. Living far apart, doing video streams on our kits together became a joy. We've both seen flaws throughout the time, but having the opportunity to do something like this was worth the commitment. Hopefully, as time goes on they will improve the issues you found along with countless other folks who have brought these up. I'm sorry to see the frustration this series has given you, perhaps Eaglemoss will throw the towel in on this build and let subs get a "fresh" start with the suggested improvements.

That's fantastic that you're building this with your friend. I probably would have been more accepting of the issues with this kit if I was doing that. Honestly, I've completely lost my enthusiasm to even go on with this now and the model is now in the trash. I did keep the lights though in case I can use them for some other projects.

Being honest here: When I saw the prototype images with it's bad panel fit, window inserts sitting proud and a few light leaks, I knew this was not a kit for me. I reckoned on it being around £2300 all in for the finished product. When I can get someone to build a 1/400 kit professionally, with a lighting kit for a quarter of that. I suspected that making out of individual panels was going to cause issues, not just for light leaks but also the fit of them. I watched a few build videos and felt I made the right decision. A particular hate of mine is the flashing of the navigation lights. On the Enterprise D, the Red and Green nav lights do NOT flash. And the beacons that did flash did not flash in the manner this kit's lights do. They are far too quick. Again, over £2000 for a kit that will need so much work to fix it... just didn't interest me

I'm right there with you! I'm tired of things breaking in this build, I'm tired of Eaglemoss saying replacement parts are on backorder (coincidentally, always the ones that have broken) and I'm tired of the frustration and cost associated with this whole process. I would be much more willing to pay $2,000 for a professional-grade completed and detailed model than pay sporadically for cheap parts that break at every turn. I'm done too!

I’ve been building the Eaglemos BTTF Delorean for years. It’s been so long I’m not even sure how long I’ve been working on it. I think my 2 1/2 year build is going on 4 years now and I’m not even done. We are having the same issues as you, missing parts so issue shipping delays, no communication, bad model that needs tons of mods. There’s 3rd party people online that make better parts for the model but most are over $100 or more but I went ahead and got them so the model I put all this time and money in won’t suck as bad as what they want me to build. Oh and the batteries die after a day or two even if you don’t turn it on. Someone figured out that it drains the batteries even turned off. Someone made and sells a power mod so you can plug it in, like it should have been, but I’m past the point to where I can change it. My solution is I wait till I have a dozen or more issues piled up then I work on it. That way I’m not waiting month to month with delays. I’m currently in my third delay this year. Seems like every monthly shipment this year arrives every 2 to 3 months. My longest delay was 6 months because they were short one part and wouldn’t ship any of the following issues till they could ship the one issue with the missing part. All in all, I will never do another Eaglemos model. If I wasn’t so far along on the Delorean I would cancel

That's terrible. For that price the light leaks and part inaccuracies are just inexcusable. But the batteries, 16 in total, are just downright silly. How they couldn't power the ship with an electric plug is truly a bizarre and unwise decision! Thanks for sharing you made me a subscriber!!!

I recently finished an 1:1400 AMT Ent D that I lit with homebrew LEDs. It's not a perfect build, but I'm much happier I went that route than ending up with this mess. At least with a basic AMT model there are fewer parts and fewer edges where light leaks need to be fixed. And now I hear they're bankrupt and everyone is stuck with an incomplete model? What a nightmare. I didn't even realize this whole thing is meant to be battery powered, that's just crazy. I powered mine with a pair of 24v plugs and hooked it up to a smart plug so I can turn it off and on without having to touch it. Watch batteries for the nacelles? That's just poor design.

I looked at all the promotional images with great scrutiny and saw so many errors and the panel looked like they didn't line up etc. As a modeler I couldn't cope with this and decided not to invest. So glad I didn't and I was right. Sorry you had to go through it all.

I considered for about a week subscribing for this thing when it first came out. I didn't because of my previous experiences with their customer service (my favorite is when I emailed asking about a severely delayed shipment, the service rep copy/pasted the "estimated shipping" date from their website. You could tell because they didn't even bother to change the font/font color). Videos like this make me glad I made that decision, for the amount of money and time you put into this thing it should really be better quality.

I totally agree. It's one of the worst models I ever built. I was just taking the batteries out of the neck and one of the metal contacts came off! It has some parts that are pretty cheap. I'm really glad I quit when I did. I just wish the "cracks in the woodwork" would have shown themselves much sooner. It would have saved me a ton of money and time.

I had similar problems with lack of thought and shoddy manufacturing with the Eaglemoss DeLorean model, which I ended up giving up on. There were simply too many problems. I've also had similar delivery problems with the DeAgostini R2-D2.

I couldn't do that. When I build or work on anything, I want everything in front of me or no go. They have complete Enterprise kits from Polar Lights, plus they have decal kits and lighting kits that you can purchase all at once. I never order anything like that. I remember the "Book of the month club" Starting at a penny back in the late 70's and I knew it was a scam. Bro, just cancel out, I bet it's from Chiner and honestly, I don't trust em.

@@outsider238 my brother built a Subara Impreza WRC from DeAgostini about 15 years ago. At the time it cost him somewhere in the region of £500 (about $610) when the whole thing pre-built and ready to go was available for about £150 ($180) from a store named Argos. There isn't really an equivalent in the USA I could name to compare it to, but I digress. It's a shame you and many others have effectively wasted your money on this. Honestly it bugs the heck out if me, but great video! 👍

The fact that this thing is basically the 2ft Studio Model everyone is making, but equipped with basically everything from the 6ft model... on paper, it sounds good, but in practice, this is outrageous. I waited and then was able to buy 2 full parts kits for a bargain. Finished one that came out perfect. At least they know how to design a kit. Sorry to hear what you went thru

I went back and looked at the battery compartment in the neck. There's actually 3 AAA batteries in there. So the saucer and the secondary hull will more than likely also have 3 AAA batteries in each section. I'm guessing the stand will as well. So the total battery count will probably be around 16. Still way too many. Also when I took off the battery cover on the neck, the battle bridge came off leaving the flat cover stuck on and hard to remove since it's only snapped on. Also, one of the metal contacts inside that battery compartment came off! It just gets worse and worse!

Eaglemoss actually has quite a few partswork models that they "offer". Unfortunately being a UK based company the US customers don't matter. I had subbed to the Ecto 1 build, but they lied about delivery frequency to me, they NEVER delivered on time or correctly, and when they realized the 100% failure to deliver to me, instead of fixing the problem they just tossed me out as a customer. Worst company I have ever dealt with. I just really wish that there was a way to hold them accountable for all of their behaviors here in the US.

I've only ever bought their diecast stuff before this so this was my first experience with them and their model kits. I'm definitely turned off from ever buying another one of these kits from them. I'm sorry to hear that you also had a bad experience with them. They really dropped the ball for their US customers. Probably lost thousands in sales because of it too as well as future purchases from people's experiences with them now. Not a good way to build up their customer base.

Actually, I had a year's delay on three months' worth of issues from DeAgostini/Fanhome, and worse problems (5 months delay) on getting replacement parts - which were SUPPOSED to only take 3 weeks. So there's that.

I got about as far as you on this model, and ultimately I stopped as well. This was not their first partwork model- they did the DeLorean from Back to the Future, James Bonds Astin Martin DB-5, Elanore from Gone in 60 Seconds, Ecto-1, and most recently Titanic. I was doing Ecto along with this model, and I was a full year behind on building it due to them being constantly out of stock. I was delayed on this one as well, and ultimately canceled it. And now their bankrupt, so no one will ever finish these models, unless another company picks up the license.

I've learned my lesson on these kits to never buy into another one. I'm currently trying to build the R2-D2 from Fanhome but I've had a nearly 6 month delay of parts so here we go again. After R2, that's it for me.

At first, I was like “I actually like the color separation of having individual parts of windows and escape pods” Then you showed the light leaking. And expensive kit should not have that at all and is inexcusable on thier part.

I now believe that the saucer won't actually connect to the neck. There's no way those plastic "docking clamps" can hold up the weight of the saucer. My guess is that the display stand will have some kind of support pieces to hold up the saucer and you'll just place it on top of the neck. It would explain why the saucer has a separate power source. So you won't be able to pick up the model as a whole ship. Not that most people probably will anyway but I feel it's a bit of a cheat.

On my completed cobra head, if I turn it over, the 'docking clamps' fall out, so they definitely would not hold that hugely heavy saucer section in place.

One would have figured that, with all of the other over-engineering that went into this, those docking clamps would have been spring-loaded... push-click to raise/lower them. I took a look at the subscription when Eaglemoss first announced it and " noped " on it. I knew that there would be lots of problems with light bleed because of the panel design and individual window pieces. The only reason for it being this complicated is to maximize the number of kits, and payments, needed to build the model.

I quit my subscription to Eaglemoss 'Build the Enterprise' as well. The fact that there is so much lag in delivery and no explanation nor updates from 'Eaglemoss' irritated me. The service reps would always state: "We'll ship when available". I still have subscriptions to "The Terminator" and "R2D2" because the service reps seem to be more attuned to their current situation as far-as-shipments and deliveries. I also cancelled the 'Bismarck' because the shipments are intermittent at best. I loved your videos of the 'Enterprise' build because it validated my frustrations watching your videos. Still love your videos and will continue to watch. Thanks! Eric Edit: Maybe if things were different and there were no world-wide health concerns and shipments were more consistent, maybe I would have made a different decision. Not really sure at this moment due to concerns with the product provided as well! You provided a well needed video for this! Maybe, 'Eaglemoss' will take notice and see they need to improve. Thanks!

Haha! Thank you Eric! I will say that it does hurt to stop building this not only because of the financial loss but also, I really wanted to love this model. But the further I got, the less I liked it. I think also it was frustrating because we don't know what the display case is going to look like, how future parts are going to fit, the fact that we didn't know that it uses way too many batteries and the light leaks don't appear until you've got a significant section of the model done. By then it's too late to take it all apart to fix it. That's why I really would have preferred to have the entire kit and not piece by piece. At least we could plan ahead for certain obstacles if we had the parts in hand. Oh well. At least I feel like a huge weight is off my shoulders now that I'm not stressing about the long delays in parts deliveries. Thank you for sticking around! I appreciate it!😁

Thank you! I've been wanting to make a video for a while now addressing the issues with this kit. It seems like no one is really speaking up about the problems. I think mainly because the most popular videos are hosted by people that are given the kit by Eaglemoss or have a sponsorship with them so they're afraid to say anything negative about this kit. Like you, I probably would have continued building it if I was actually getting the parts delivered like they were supposed to be. I know shipping issues are a problem but I do think there might be other factors that Eaglemoss may not necessarily be sharing with us but who knows. I also feel that if I had completed this kit, I would have had buyer's remorse after seeing the results.

I hope they will soon come with an update concerning the future of Eaglemoss. Till now I only read mainly comments from people from the US. Not UK. Because if you live in the UK you could even check the warehouses and office in London what is going on. Or call the trustee and find out what will be the procedure and if there are companies interested to take over Eaglemoss. I have the feeling many model builders sitting home with a halfway build model which costed already big money. Not even mentioning the people that ordered and payed in advance.

As far as I can tell Eaglemoss is history. As for their models, they have interested parties that might take over the production of the kits. It's going to be a long process though.

This seems to be common for eaglemoss. I have built the BTTF Delorean and currently building the Ghostbusters ECTO1. Experienced the same delays and a total lack of communication on their part. After R2-D2, I won't be doing anymore of these. This was my first time trying these. It'll be my last. I hope you start getting your model parts in a timely fashion.

I just remembered another BIG reason why I thought this wasn't that great of a deal. Back in 2012/2013, QMx had an Artisan Replica series, and the Enterprise-D at 1:850 scale (29.5 inches long x 22 inches wide x 6 inches high [11 inches high when mounted on the base]) . Completely hand made and shipped fully assembled for $9,995. For the $2,000+ for this, I was willing to entertain having to assemble it, some of the lighting issues, and out right errors (ie heat vents), I can't not say that this is 20% of the quality that the QMx one. And I do get that as a part-work, you are not paying for that all in one go, but still, Diamond Select's Ent-D was $49.95 back in '09 and the quality was vastly superior to this: 0.5% of the cost but not 0.5% of the quality. Granted, it isn't as big (at 18.7 x 14 x 6.1 inches), but the paint job and lighting on it was incredible. OK, i think I am done ranting now.

I understand your frustration. I don't know if you heard but Eaglemoss is no more. They went bankrupt a while back. I had issues with them when I ordered the USS CERRITOS and there was months of delays. Thankfully I was able to get it before Eaglemoss went bye-bye.

Welcome to eagle moss and sorry for your pain. I got caught with the marvel classic statue collections missing the last 10 as they ran out and never replaced them. That's 190 of them spread over 2 weeks each and never finished it as a collection. They over complicate to make it more parts and so more money and I never bought from eaglemoss again. I nearly took them to court with the statement "as a subscriber you get every issue" but it would cost more then it was worth. I hear they are in financial difficulties now so I hope you have greater success then I had with them. Excelsior sir

I am in the UK and I had massive issues with their customer services, let alone what it was like for you in the US. I stopped around the 20 mark issue because I had PCB faults, ill fitting parts, basically exactly what you have highlighted. Its no wonder Eaglemoss are now bankrupt. I am now doing the Fibre Optic version of the AMT 1:1400 Enterprise D and using the 4 paint version os masking as you see in the Star Trek Generations movie. Also, any issues, I can use fillers and re touch with paint to sort out any issues.

This kit was a complete disaster. I eventually had the head of customer service call me after this video came out. He admitted that no one at Eaglemoss even ever put this kit together before it was released to know that there were any issues with it. You're right for quitting this model and moving on to the one you're working on now. Fanhome has since picked up this model to continue its distribution but I don't know why anyone would want to even go on building this absolute garbage of a kit.

Built their Mercedes 300SL. One of the worst experiences ever. I did eventually finish it but it took almost 3 years. Horrible customer service. Inconsistent delivery. Get three months of deliveries on time then nothing for months. Suddenly a massive charge on the credit card and another month of waiting. When calling there was no help. We're sorry but it shows as shipped. Best part was towards the end of the build they would skip phases leaving you completely unable to progress.

Thank you for the video. I originally signed up for this and canceled when I realized the pricing. Eaglemoss feels like a license distributor as Europe has DeAgostini and Fanhome and are probably buying from a weaker CZN manufacturer. The Knight Rider KITT i've had my eyes on it, but if Eaglemoss is distributing it in the US, I may just pass on that one as well too.

I must say, there's a lot of these kits I'd like to get but after this experience, it's ruined me on these so called "Partwork" kits. I am still building the Fanhome R2-D2 though. There's been a couple delays with that too but Fanhome is good enough to send me the stage that was delayed along with the next stages so at least they are way better about it than Eaglemoss is. Plus the R2-D2 is a far superior kit. I'm not buying anymore kits from Eaglemoss though.

I built their Delorean kit, which in all honesty, turned out great with only a few delays (pre pandemic). Then, I ordered their Solar System model. A beautiful brass motorized piece. Truly impressive. But, there are serious parts supply issues. I’ve been waiting over ONE YEAR for four particular issues. I was able to work around this and “complete” the model, but planet Neptune is unfortunately, not a part of this solar system model. I threatened them with legal action and they sent me the next four issues free of charge. But the delays only continued. They have serious parts issues and it seems to be getting worse. Now, they seem to hold further shipments if there is a shortage as opposed to just skipping. Thanks for this heads up on this model. I just received the first intro issue. I’ll cancel ASAP.

I think they've run into a corner they can't resolve very easily right now. The distributor for the parts in the US screwed them over and now they need to find a new one which could take months. But even so, the kit itself is terrible. I'm glad I stopped now but I wish I had known about these issues beforehand. They need to cancel this kit, refund everyone their money and start completely over with designing this thing. I know it'll cost them money but considering how much they've already lost in canceled orders and people deciding not to even get started after seeing all the problems with this, it's probably the best thing for them to do at this point.

I'm a military modeler.I have been building military kits for close to forty years.My question is this: Did you research model reviews on this kit? I love the hobby,but a model that costs two thousand dollars is something that I would leave on the shelf.No model is worth two thousand dollars to me.I'll stick to DRAGON and DML kits.

There wasn't much to research. No one had one of these in hand and complete to review or look at. Eaglemoss was a trusted company that was around for something like 30 years and have done other kits like this. I was hesitant at first because I didn't like the 4 stages per month process but the model looked good so I figured I'd try it. It's all metal and super heavy. It doesn't matter anyhow. I threw it out shortly after making this video and Eaglemoss has since filed for bankruptcy.

I totally understand the appeal of a 27+ inch Enterprise D model, but anyone who saw the original ad for these (on Facebook, which is a huge red flag right there) could tell right THEN that this was not a film-accurate model. That, the timeframe, and the price was the end for me. Should have been for anyone else, too.

I'm not on Facebook so I never saw the ad. I don't actually remember how I found out about this. Wish I had known how badly engineered it was but you don't get to see it until you're pretty far into the build. I think most people are continuing with this mainly because they have so much money invested into it that they don't want to stop even if it's not that great of a kit for what you're paying.

Something I just noticed. Those light strips are on the top of the warp engine. If you don't diffuse the light enough, or if the wires get bundled together during final assembly, you are going to see them as a dark line across the lit area. If they'd worked it so that the lights are attached at the bottom there is so much less of a chance that this will happen. (Yes, it's not like the wires have to go through the nacelle and attach in the engineering hull, but over time any wires above the lit area will droop because of gravity.) Oh, and this ISN'T Eaglemoss' first partwork. They've been doing them for ages. I already have one of their previous builds, a 1:2 sale R2-D2 with a whole lot of electronics - but they dropped the ball on the batteries for that one. Originally (In the UK) stated that we could order batteries through them. Details should have been in an issue between 85 and 90 (it's been a while, I can't remember exactly) but that got pushed back. Eventually they released the details of the battery requirements, and by issue 100 it was abundantly clear they were leaving it at that. Go get your own batteries. Trouble was their requirements. Rechargeable batteries, specific type and power, button top, NO protection circuit in the batteries because there was one in the battery box. No actual help or endorsement of a particular brand or model, despite having some pictures in one of the issues. I went to Amazon to look for the batteries pictured, only to find the reviews were either 5* "Exactly as advertised, great batteries" kind of thing - some even quoting the specs they actually got from the batteries, or 1* "Rubbish, not worth it, wouldn't power a watch" kind of thing. Further investigation showed them to be the most counterfeited batteries on the web! And you have to do a first charge battery by battery in a charger they supply in one issue which will also tell you if it's a 'good' battery or not. A full set would cost around £60 which was more than I was prepared to spend when I could get all of them come out as 'bad'. Even so, any trouble with the unit and Eaglemoss had a very easy 'out' just by saying "it's your batteries!" So my R2 has been, and probably will stay, a £900 paperweight.

I was wondering if those wires were going to show as well. I sanded those clear pieces pretty good so they would have diffused the light nicely but I never got a chance to test it. I think the R2-D2 was made by Deagostini wasn't it? I'm currently building the latest version of it now which is under the name Fanhome but it's still Deagostini. It still uses those weird batteries unfortunately. I'm hoping I can get them when I get to that part of the build.

I honestly think that Eaglemoss as a company deserves what they are going through, their quality check is awful, and obviously their engineering "skills" is really lacking. I'm glad to have gotten my Enterprise J, Orville, and 304 Daedalus, when I did.

I feel like I got scammed with a half built model. What upsets me most is other KZbinrs who have built these having nothing bad to say. I can only guess they got paid.

Yes there was several KZbinrs that were getting the parts for free from Eaglemoss to make videos on this so that's why they weren't saying anything bad about it. That's one of the reasons I haven't taken a paid promotion offer or free things because I don't want to feel obligated to say only positive things even if I may not like the product. Eaglemoss has filed for bankruptcy now so I'm pretty sure the Enterprise is DOA.

I'm just storing all my bits for now, literally just checked the contents and left them packaged. I will go the distance with this but intend to extensively modify it following in the foot steps of master builders. I am concerned about the saucer connection but magnets might fix this. As for the electrics, shouldn't be too hard to mod and I intend on adding Arduino anyway. I totally get your frustrations, even world of Wayne has stopped his series to go back to the drawing board on this one. Just think of the end result though, if you can overcome the issues it would be amazing having a 2 foot scale model.

I was shocked that Wayne decided to stop his build as well. Modifying this kit is going to be the way to go with this. The current version is terrible. I would have done the same but I didnt want to pay for parts I'll never use. This thing is expensive enough already. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. I'm not sure magnets will hold the saucer. It is incredibly heavy. It's going to need some kind of support beam of some kind running through the neck and the saucer.

i tried one of their builds & it was a nightmare. my ocal newsagent won't even stock their stuff anymore. bits were delivered to him smash ed inside the bags or just missing. they couldn't get in touch with anyone at Eaglemoss to organise replacements. he's a decent guy because he could have just handed out the issues as they arrived so it would be down to the customer to order replacements. but he tried to do the right thing by sqying that he can't in good faith give something to a paying customer that has been delivered to his shop broken. so the newsagents gets sthck with broken & damaged part-work stuff Eaglemoss don't help him to replace

I just wanted to echo your sentiments on the batteries. Eaglemoss and their ridiculous power design with this model aside, the Hallmark Christmas ornament starships moved from being powered by Christmas lights to batteries in the early 2000s, and the ones prior to that switch to batteries are vastly superior in almost every way (they didn't even bother putting any LEDs in last years). I also have some non-trek related things from First4Figures, and once again, lighting powered by (AA) batteries. I get that it's cheap way to power LEDs (although at these price points, why?), but so is USB, and if portable use is desired, a portable USB power bank could be used. I remember going to the hobby shops as a kid, and the expensive lighted models, posters, and other items were all lit, all the time, and certainly were responsible for some of my purchases. But with these battery powered models, I don't even know how anyone would try and display them at a store, although I guess with the recent news they don't have to worry about that anymore.

That lighting rig is not over-engineered, it's cheaply engineered. Circuit boards are cheap now. It would have been fairly easy to make say, a dozen circuit boards as arc segments, powering 4 or so sections, and daisy-chain them together. That much wiring screams 'we're cheap'. I'm sorry you had to go through this; I've done some of these subscription builds before and... well, i got about halfway through before giving up. But I appreciate you made this video to warn others.

You got farther than I did - I cancelled my subscription many months ago. I only decided to do this because my Chronicle Collectibles went out of business and I had to contest my preorder with my Credit Card. Instead of sinking more time and money into this build I decided to forgo the rest. I could tell that the build was going to be subpar and the over engineering of the deck panels and lighting made it so that my panels couldn't fit together properly. This was my first attempt with Eaglemoss and I can honestly say I will never try another kit of theirs again.

I'm sorry to hear you've got problems with the kit, when I first saw it on the convention circuit I was glad someone was producing a 1:1000 scale Enterprise D. But I honestly hope whoever liquidates Eaglemoss sells the moulds to Round 2 models, so that they can do some tinkering and produce a good 1:1000 scale Enterprise D and discontinue their ancient 1:1400 scale kit. BTW: the orange coolers on the Enterprise D are synonymous with the latter 5 foot miniature of the Enterprise D, so I guess this version is based on the 5 foot miniature; I also noticed that it has blinking navigation lights on the neck when the should be solid, so sadly, it looks about as accurate as your usual AMT Star Trek kit.

This is likely the project that did Eaglemoss in. These parts delays are a horrible customer service situation, and the fact they handled it so badly probably turned a lot of people off to their products in general. A project like this would also tangle up a lot of money buying so many intricate parts. Those two sides of it would likely cause any company money issues, and combine that with other issues Eaglemoss had, well, they're bankrupt now.

This has been symptomatic for Eaglemoss since the very beginning. Supply issues just made the problem more acute. But customer service always sucked. I made two orders from Eaglemoss over the years. One arrived after 2 months and was incomplete, the other one never did and had to be refunded after 8 months and countless emails, calls and assurances, they'd make it a priority shipment. Their website was also a mess full of bugs and inacurate information. It's a tragic example of a promising brand killed by atrocious management.

When Star Trek The Next Generation first appeared on television our local TV critic had quite e few complaints but one of the things he said was, "The ship is too big!" That comment has stuck with me and I have never been able to shake the idea that in the world of Star Trek all of the ships are too big! The idea of a giant ship was a plot device thought up by Roddenberry to provide a source of characters to write stories around. It was a way of taking the small town, with all its random possibilities, with you into space. Great for story telling but not practical for space exploration. The Enterprise D supposedly had a crew of just under a thousand. A typical US aircraft carrier has a crew of 5,000 and they have nowhere near the internal volume of the Enterprise D. There is enough room on the Enterprise D to house a crew as large as 10,000 possibly. Where is the logic in that?

After watching this I'm glad I never signed up for it. I think I will stick to the smaller ships they sell on secondary markets. I do have the Ghostbuster's Ecto-1 build up project and I feel like its over engineered sometimes too. The attention to detail is incredible, and I'm hoping they wont go under so my parts wont stop coming, but then they were never consistent with deliveries anyway. I feel like this really encourages old skool model kits. Yeah sometimes the plastic was iffy or the QC wasn't great, but the model kits were cheap and plentiful. You could buy a cheap snap together kit for fun or get something bigger and more complicated and go nuts with lights and a high end paint job. They gave you choices and I feel like an old AMT or ERTL kit would be a better buy than this thing.

I had started the R2D2 but I saw there was an issue with obtaining the batteries for it. After several back and forth with their support, I found that the batteries required for it was nearly impossible to get any longer in the US.

I'm borderline ready to quit this model also. It been a pain to apply panels to the frame without pinching wires. Recently eaglemoss emailed to inform me that my subscription had fallen behind (not due to anything ony part) and offered to catch me up for a €140 payment, it really felt like a marketing pressure move, left a bad taste in my mouth, then delivery was delayed, only arrived today. I never thought anything could make me hate the Enterprise D but eaglemoss are coming close.

It seems like every panel on the saucer has wires that are smashed into each other or into the frame. I was constantly concerned about their longevity being tightly smashed like that. I really don't know why they didn't use LED tape in this model. They could have had the panels as two pieces; one clear insert with molded in windows inserted into the panel. Then screw those to the frame. No LEDs sandwiched in between. Plus the LED tape would light up both the top AND the bottom of the saucer at the same time. I think they were trying to heighten the piece count on this kit to justify the cost of it. Hence the individual window pieces, individual escape pods and the ridiculous number of LEDs.

A couple of months ago I got so sick of those flimsy wires breaking I just took the whole outer skin off the saucer section,and took the reflective panels underneath apart and soaked them for 24 hours in alcohol and scraped and scratched the silver off with an old toothbrush and managed to get about 85 to 90% of the paint off.Then put the outer skin and panels back together and put them back on the skeleton frame,without the hundreds of lights. I left the ones in the cobra neck section until later.But for the port warp nacelle I went ahead and put it fully togther without it breaking since they secured the battery wires with a huge glob of hot glue so thanks for doing something right.Also to mention but to diffuse the light inside the nacelle(s) use scotch tape the regular type,it breaks up the lights perfectly.So one down and one to go. Also I hate to piss on other peoples plans but lastweek I received the latest release and also the display,but instead of a case you now get a tripod stand with a triangular cardboard cover,oh jump for joy (sarcasm).But thru thick or thin I plan on completing this model no matter how bad it is,granted its a literal nightmare but with hope with the mods I plan to do to this it will come out okay. I plan to add a central set of lights in the center of the saucer section and run it down thru the rest of the ship and be able to power it electrically.

The entire kit is a complete mess. I don't know how this was allowed to be released to customers. I know a lot of people are doing modifications but the whole point is that it's a $2,000 "premium" kit. We should have to do absolutely no mods to this at all for that price. That's why we're paying it. I honestly don't know how anyone at Eaglemoss could have even thought this was okay to produce a kit like this at this price point.

@Enohadoland I guess it makes sense. They don't want to send it to everyone if they haven't completed paying for it so they offer the tripod as a temporary stand.

These big pricey kits should've been the first sign this company was in trouble, and on the verge of filling for bankruptcy. People also should realize that the prototype rarely if ever match the quality of production and corner cutting. Obviously the kits like this were eaglemoss trying to pull in the bigger bucks. A model the size of round 2, diamond select with a simpler build and more easily able to be modified would have brought them in a good amount of money as well but not the bigger bucks they eventually planned on pulling in.

After finishing the R2-D2 (which was from another company) which took over 2 years, I will not be buying any more of these kits. It's like Lego sending you 10 pieces a month to build the Titanic set.

I wish we as Star Trek fans could just BUY Star Trek things. Why is everything such a chore? a membership, a subscription, a scheduled release. I work in manufacturing and toys and I know that the bottleneck is the licensing entity (CBS/Paramount) it's horrible to work with them and takes a long time. but this is unforgivable.

I totally agree!! It's so frustrating as a consumer to have to jump over all these hurdles just to buy or build something. This particular model was a mess from the very beginning.

Sounds like a mess.... i looked at buying this a couple yrs ago.... so glad i didn't ..... i would suggest using black silicone RTV to cover your light spots.. you can get colored silicone from Lowes they have gray, black, red, ect.. best of luck..

Well Eaglemoss is bankrupt now so the kit has been discontinued as well as all the other ones they were doing. Plus I thew this disaster in the trash about 6 months ago.

I can agree they should have took a modelers perspective for power and just plug in using ax adapter. I can see myself not turning it on that often just based soupy on all the batteries as well. I haven’t really touched mine I. A week bc my battery box broke. The light bleeds are horrendous and yes those fecking windows can drive one mad

There was a metal piece on the lid of the battery box for the neck that broke off on mine. I showed that in the follow up video to this one. Yes, this kit is horrible. It should have never left the drawing board. Eaglemoss never even had anyone from their company build the kit for themselves until they contacted me after seeing this video. It's a complete mess of a kit.
