I like Wayne’s new way with the windows using solarez. And ditching there lighting. I’ve been collecting parts for a year now, (now the delay thing has cought up with me) but haven’t even put once piece together. From what I see from other peoples builds is that mod at your own risk or have a cheap looking $2000 toy. I’m spending that much I want it studio model accurate. I’ll build mine and film it once I have all the parts and do the mods.

From the very start my impression was EM was more interested in making as many parts as possible to justify cost and number of stages. The frame is massive overkill, the dozens of individual LED's totally needless, and the individual panels add nothing but complexity and light leaks. Nicely detailed upper and lower saucer halves with a minimal metal frame and LED tape lighting would be infinitely better but it would be hard to break that into 50 stages! :) I think I'll stick to my Polar Lights 1701-A

I totally agree! The more I look at this, the more I'm convinced that they had a target price tag of $2,000 and had to make the kit contain enough parts to justify the cost. Especially when Brett told me they felt customers would have felt like they didn't get their money's worth if they made it more simple. I think everyone would have preferred a more simple and affordable kit verses this ridiculous mass of overkill.

I've come close to starting this a bunch of times because I love the ship, but I'm not a model builder by any stretch of the imagination. I probably did my last one in the late 80s/early 90s. This looked great, though. Easy to build! No glue! Put it together like IKEA furniture! Once I saw build videos like yours coming out, though, it looked like a lot of annoying busy work. Man I initially was impressed when I first saw this kit (and immediately was turned off by the price) but this thing had so many issues it wasn't funny. The windows should have the LED tape and light piping, probably would have lead to a cleaner inside. Batteries? Maybe a rechargeable pack for both the saucer and drive unit (if you had the space to display them mid separation that is) Have the plate on the neck removeable to expose a wire connector that would join it to the saucer. I bet there is someone out there watching this who built that Ertl (or was it AMT) DS9 fiber optic kit back in the day who probably thinks they didn't put as much effort into getting their kit to look right vs fixing the issues here. With Eaglemoss going bankrupt...makes me wonder if we might see some of the ships etc turn up in surplus shops.

This is a good follow-up to your last "I Quit" video as you touched on so much of what I have said about this build. I've been watching the World of Wayne (WOW) series seeing all the problem's he's noted, which match yours and everyone else as well. He has also quit building this - or rather he's completely redesigning the build. You may want to view his Live Stream (2-17-22 at around 18:08 minutes in) where he talks about modifying the reflectors, windows and etc that eliminate 100% light bleeds. I am a Star Trek Fan..I have the working Phasor and Bluetooth Communicator, a diecast model of the original Enterprise from The Franklin Mint, plus other collectables. I'm just not a fan of the Next Gen series, so I was never going to do this build; but what struck me was the overall design and lack of attention to detail compared to the "screen accurate" replica of the real ship. So, in terms of the modifications, such as from Mike Lane, MyEnterpriseD.com, and WOW they were all necessary due to Eaglemoss's lack of attention to detail. What struck me about your meeting with Eaglemoss was that the head director of customer service - Bret - he was taken back at his experience building this - now the reason why this struck me was that I (obviously incorrectly so) assumed that they had internal QA release test builds. How can you release a build project without first going through a series of QA builds to catch design flaws, incorrect instructions and all that? Especially in Customer Service. How can CS address customer issues if they themselves have no experience or information about that which they are supposed to support? In terms of improving the overall design, if Eaglemoss is really interested, they should reach out to builders like yourself, World of Wayne, Mike Lane, and (I know him by his website- myenterprised.com/) and the like to talk about design flaws, improvements and etc. World of Wayne also commented on how in the hell is the saucer section going to attach to the neck? In terms of power - batteries. I agree, adding batteries all over the model just adds weight to an already oversize and heavy model; and having to take the ship apart to replace batteries, or remove them to prevent corrosion . . . what could possibly go wrong with that? All they had to do was funnel the wires to a single power board which would have a single power port where the ship connected to the stand. From there, a USB would go from the stand to an outlet. For a ship this size - batteries is definitely not the way to go. In terms of "drip-payments," There are positives and negatives. Positive. Monthly subscription cost takes the sting out of a $2-3k model. Expensing $70 or $120 a month with no interest, is a lot easier to handle than a credit card bill that will gather interest making a $2k model into a $2,500 - $3,000 expense with interest. The negative: credit card + interest payments . . . If the minimum + interest = about the same as a monthly subscription, well if you have no problem giving the bank extra money, that may be the way to go. Another way to go would be similar to IXO collections where you can buy the number of Boxes (builds) that meets your monthly budget. I buy 3 boxes at a time from IXO so I can get free shipping. My point is... speaking for me, subscription costs are debited from my bank account where I pay no interest. I set up a budget that accounts for the monthly expense. I understand the attraction - "need" to build, build and build until it's done, and maybe when I'm 100% retired (next year) I'll have that time. But right now - because of distribution problems with Eaglemoss on the DeLorean build (9 months late) -"drip-payments" - builds from Agora, IXO and Fanhome more or less keep my weekends filled. Another positive of allowing the customer to buy x-number of builds at a time would be the "Free Shipping" for Orders $x or more," like a lot of companies do. I would rather buy an extra product than spend it on shipping. But that's me. One important last point: Distribution problems. The back orders, the delays in shipping are not the fault of the company. It's a combination of things that on the one hand are the fault of the distribution company by their policies, and other factors that the private sector has to deal with by restrictions placed on them. Until that is resolved, we just have to be patient until things go back to normal where the only problems we had to deal with was weather delays.

Thank you for the great comment! I was watching Wayne's channel and saw what he has planned for his build. I think it's a great idea. I can't wait to see how it turns out. I would do the same but I'm not going to pay for a bunch of parts and electronics that I'll never end up using. This kit was expensive enough. Plus I threw the kit in the trash. I did an "Epilogue" video after this one that explained as best as I could what was going on with the delays in parts here in the US and what happened with the distributer, Kenco. I agree that it's ridiculous that no one at Eaglemoss even built the actual kit to see all the problems it has. Brett was telling me they are currently building it now but that should have been done before it even went on sale. I also feel that he agreed with many of the problems with this kit but couldn't say anything too bad about it since he does work for them. Any modeler that was building a model of this size would have had it powered through house current and not batteries. It's just common sense considering how many batteries this ended up using. Not to mention all the switches just to turn them all on. I understand the need to have parts delivered monthly to help people afford this but there needs to be a choice. A choice if a customer wants to buy the entire kit and not be forced to only get a few at a time. I would never put this kit on my credit card unless I could afford to pay it all off when the bill came in. I won't pay the bank interest. I had signed up to get 4 stages per week but was never offered free shipping nor did I ever get the stages delivered weekly. Instead it was every two months. It was ridiculous. I'm not building a model like that. They shouldn't offer what they can't deliver. I know it's mostly out of their hands and I tried to convey that but some people thought I was making excuses for Eaglemoss hence the third video I had to make about this subject called the Epilogue video. It doesn't matter now anyway. I threw the model in the trash. I didn't want to even look at it anymore. $728 thrown away. I was never going to go back to building it after the experience I had with it. The good thing is, I saved $1,300 by not completing it and thousands more by not buying any more of these so called "Partwork" kits.

Fanhome has taken on sending this model for those wanting it. Thus far, the kit looks exactly the same (including the same errors). After seeing this video (and the previous one), I'm wondering (hoping) if they will address the issues or continue sending out the bad stuff. Knowing about the LED issues, the customer could resolve it by blacking problem areas and spreading the LED's out, thus reducing the quantity. Simply attaching 1 (2 if needed) per plate would cut down greatly. But the battery issue needs to be addressed. No way anyone is going to like the end product needing some 20+ batteries every day! As far as connecting the saucer, I see the potential of them using magnets to connect it, but with the downside of the paint job being scratched and the saucer falling off all the time. Sure hope Fanhome (not to mention De Agostini) reviews videos like these to fix the problems before they end-up like Eaglemoss.
@outsider238
@outsider238 8 ай бұрын
That saucer will not attach with magnets. There's no way it can because it is extreeeemely heavy! I can pretty much guarantee that the flaws with the kit will not get fixed. The molds and tooling have already been done and manufactured so there's no way Fanhome is going to put any money into it. I think they're basically doing this kit in good faith to those that were left hanging with incomplete kits in order to drum up more business for themselves.

Those magnets are strictly for holding the battery cover in place. There is no way magnets could hold the saucer onto the neck. That saucer is crazy heavy! Plus all the weight is hanging over the front of it. You'd have to have magnets so strong that you wouldn't be able to take the saucer off at all. I'm almost 100% sure the saucer is just going to rest on the neck and not be attached at all. Just look like it's attached. I think there will be two stands. One for the saucer and one for the rest of the ship. They'll be spaced apart to look like the model is whole but it won't actually be one complete model.

Sorry to hear about the issues. I watch "World of Wayne" on a regular basis and was aware of the light leak, but had never considered the neck to saucer connection issue before. Unfortunately I can see your points all too well as you describe them so will not pick this one up. I was hesitant before as I don't have the room where I am currently, but would have considered it when I have enough room. Now I won't. I stopped my subscription to the James Bond DB5 as I was not happy with the paint quality on that - just before they cancelled it in the UK themselves and gave everyone refunds. As I had cancelled before this, however, no refund for me. Just as I would have had to strip all the paint on that model and re-painted it myself, I would have to dump all the electronics on this, substitute LED tape, and permanently connect the saucer to the neck and re-work the stand on this - and for the cost of the model as is, that's far too expensive for what I would get [And that's coming from someone who spent around £2500 on my 1:8 BTTF Delorean build including mods.].

The only magnets on the neck are to hold the cover on for the battery compartment. Magnets would never have been practical for the saucer/neck connection because the saucer is ridiculously heavy. And you'd still have to remove the saucer to replace the batteries in the neck.

I understand their business model: • Big, expensive, and popular model • On-going sales equal on-going customer base, and, on-going familiarity and comfort with Eagle Moss offerings • High pay point mitigated by subscription spreading the bite over many months may make this able to be done by more customers. The failure, though, is the EM • Failure to ship • Failure to offer other "deals" (buy it in one purchase and one time shipping fee vice a subscription over months and multiple shipping fees) • Low quality of a supposedly museum quality offering Edited to add, the lack of an option, i.e., batteries versus wall fixture plug in is an obvious miss by EM. I can not imagine a museum putting up with that noise.

Absolutely!! And from what I'm hearing, people have been waiting months to get any parts from them once again. I would say the majority of these "Partwork" kits are the worst kits to buy mainly because they aren't getting parts delivered to their customers. I'm about to make another one of these videos about Fanhome and their lack of deliveries for the R2-D2 kit. I haven't gotten any parts from them in over 4 months now. Stay away from these type of kits!

No way! November??? That's outrageous. Absolutely inexcusable. Not getting parts in was the most aggravating part of this thing for me. You can't build a model if you don't have the parts. I can't believe I even thought it was okay to build a model 4 stages per month in the first place. It's the stupidest way to build a kit. I'm currently building R2-D2 from Fanhome and that's going a lot smoother but after that, I'll never do another "Partwork" kit again. It's a terrible way to build a model. If you're not too far into the Enterprise, you might consider quitting before you drop more money into it. The more I see of this kit, the more it looks bad. Especially for $2,000. I'm glad I stopped when I did but I wish I'd known earlier what a mess it was which would have saved me $720.

People like making the model, and others want the superior end result. No wants bad design. I once bought a digital alarm clock. It two inch red numbers, lighted buttens that you could see in the dark. It also had a remote, so you could control it from across the room. There was a dock were the remote sat, and recharged the batteries. The base had batteries incase the power went out, and the clock would still work. There was even a button that would make the remote beep if you lost it. The whole thing cost me twenty five dollarss. Only twenty five dollars! When it died, I tried to replace it. Couldn't find anything like it, and the company wasn't listed anywhere I could find it. Never found a replacement. My brother-in-law is an engineer. I asked him why people like him design such crap. He said, "I'm just an employee, and people buy the worst junk if they can save a nickel." The nickle isn 't an exageration. A nickel matters to a buyer. If you gave an engineer competely freedom, that model would cost forty bucks, and tacke ten minutes to put together.

One piece of advice. Yes, the wires are ridiculous. But, as I'm as far as you are on this model myself, I could give a little advice. Basically, unplug all of the wires from the PCBs. Then, divide the saucer section (mentally, of course) into quarters. From there, gather all the plug ends of the wires and feed them through some heat shrink tubing. After that, start plugging them into the PCBs in a way that makes sense. Don't follow the instructions, just plug them into ports that declutters it. At this stage, if you have any lights in the saucer blinking, it's in the wrong port, so just move it. Once you got them in a good position, shrink the tubing down, then use the cable ties to attach the sections to the frame. I've made my wires on the saucer look SO much neater, and it's easier to trace them down if there's a problem. As far as the shipping delays, I feel Eaglemoss should do something for their customers to make up for it. Maybe giving everyone a free month of the build, or refunding the cost of the premium stand and just throwing that in for those who stay through until the end, or even just giving us those shuttlecrafts and the print as extra free gifts. I think that would go a LONG way towards rekindling the good will of their customer base. Personally, I'm sticking with this thing, no matter how long it takes to complete. The time I spend on it when I DO get the next parts are fun, making my videos on it are a blast, and it's really gotten me into this hobby after being gone from it for so long. So much so, I'm going to give Agora Models a chance to wow me with one of their upcoming models, which I've already preordered and am just waiting for it to launch. So be sure and check that out! But I digress. I'm probably in one of the Facebook groups with you, so, if you find me there, happy to show you a picture of what I did with my saucer section wiring. Might be a help to you, if you decide to stick with this,

I couldn't help noticing if you go and look at Eaglemoss' promo video for the model: they don't show any closeups with the lights on (as it would show light bleed). You CAN actually see light bleed in the final shot of the video. Also, any time they show the saucer and neck sections close up you can see that they are NOT sitting aligned well. This probably means either they're not even connected together, or connected so poorly they don't stay aligned when at rest. That is very disappointing. To your point, 99% of people would want the model displayed as a single unit...which is how it appeared 99% of the time on the show. (facepalm)

I don't think the saucer is going to actually connect to the neck but rather just rest on it. That's just a guess though. That gap doesn't have any uniformity to it between different people's builds to look like it actually serves a function. If the panel pieces on the inside of the saucer were clear, I'd probably do my own lighting modification but we're stuck with those reflectors and they're not transparent. Boy oh boy.. watching this, looking at the assembly, I was expecting the hole through the neck was for a support structure.. but when you revealed it's the battery pack, my jaw almost fell off. I've watched build-ups of resin replicas of this ship, and one of the primary tasks involved in those builds is designing an internal armature and support structure for mounting and displaying the ship, which usually involves MASSIVE metal supports that run through the entire neck and lower hull. And those are _resin_ models.. The fact that this thing doesn't include any sort of reinforced structure for that purpose makes me SERIOUSLY question how any part of this is going to support its own weight, to say nothing for how the saucer will ever attach in any way. I'm glad now that I've kept all of the individual packs boxed still, with the intent to only build the whole thing once I have all the parts together. Maybe with all the pieces in-hand, I can either redesign it to be structurally sound, or just sell it off as a complete set. I like the concept, but the inconsistent production quality and insane complexity make me think I'd be better off buying a professionally-built studio replica.

I have always hated the "build X model through Y subscription to whatever" business model. Back in the 90's, some publisher put out a series of magazines called "Dinosaurs!". With the first however many packs, you would build a plastic glow-in-the-dark T Rex skeleton. The head was completed with the first pack (contained mags 1-3 I believe and there were 3 parts to the skull part of the model), and then you would wait a couple months before getting a handful more "bones" to add to the skeleton. I think it was like 2 years before just the Rex was finished. Probably almost $300 for a $2 plastic skeleton model. Whoopie. There are a LOT of things I see wrong here... 1. Right from the beginning when Eaglemoss started making Star Trek models, they weren't exactly known for their quality. They still aren't. And these ships are like the size of your hand at somewhere around $40 a pop. Can anyone say "rip off"? 2. The batteries. For $2000, I'd expect there to be a "wall wart" instead of having to feed this thing $20 bucks worth of batteries EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I want to turn the lights on. 3. Blink rates for ALL of the formation lights are WAY too fast. 4. ALL of the windows and the light diffusers for the nacelles SHOULD have been made of frosted plastic. Again, $2000 and you have to SAND the plastic to get a decent light diffuser? 5. I completely agree about having the windows as one solid piece of plastic instead of having to piecemeal everything together. Again, $2000 model and in each pack you get like 50 cents worth of plastic, a bunch of screws and MAYBE a metal skin panel? 6. ALL of the skin panels should be made of metal, period. A lot of the issues are because of the dissimilar materials with different rates of flexing. And the ledges on the panel edges should be a bit bigger to help prevent light leaking. 7. Should have LED strips and frosted plastic light diffuser rings in front of them. This would probably result in needing in only one circuit board per hull section. 8. Why is the Secondary Hull in pieces? I can imagine a really nice gap between the bottom of the neck and the main body of the Hull (even though nobody has gotten there yet because of the production/shipping stoppage".

It's really incredible how this model even made it to the market. Eaglemoss not having any of their people actually build this thing is the main problem. They didn't even know how bad it was. After I'm done with R2-D2, I'm done with these so called "Partwork" kits.
@danielvogel5252
@danielvogel5252 2 жыл бұрын
9. Obviously wrong colored parts repeatedly shipped for the nacelles. You weren't the only one with that issue... I've been following World of Wayne since he started his build of this model and I believe he had the same issue too. 10. Going along with #5, the blacked out windows should have a nice dot of black paint around them instead of just having the outer edge painted (I can see Eaglemoss doing this if they ever decide to have the windows as single pieces because they're cheap). Otherwise, light will just bleed up under the paint and it will look like crap. And the panel edges should also have black paint. 11. Absolutely don't like the frame design where you have to screw individual pieces together and have the skin panels reinforce them. Frame should be one big piece (one piece for top, one for bottom, with the PCB between). $2000 for this model, again. This would also help alleviate some of the model flexing and help prevent light leaks. 12. I can guess this model is going to have a display stand that holds up the Primary Hull (the saucer) and it's going to look like crap. Not saying they should have a way to physically connect the Primary to the neck (because that seems like it's going to be VERY flimsy), but hopefully the stand isn't going to look too much like trash, which I can guess it will. 13. I think someone mentioned this in the comments in the last video but I'll say it again... why are all of the nacelle backlights in the top of the nacelles? Glue/tape/whatever adhesive doesn't last forever. 14. Completely agree the lifeboat hatches should be single pieces instead of individual hatches to be placed in each panel. Would prevent incorrect installation as well as keeping the hatches at the same height above the skin and prevent light leakage. I don't think it would be too hard to have a couple pins in each panel to hold both the windows and hatches. 15. Too much messy wiring. The leads to each individual LED are TWICE as long as they should be, resulting in the wire tied bundle mess that leads to pinched wires (that can cause PCB problems, especially since I'm assuming the formation lights are run off of some sort of timer IC).

The wiring on the inside is just a matter of good organizing, if it looked like yours I would indeed be frustrated by it. The batteries don’t bother me much. With LEDs it should work a pretty long time on a full set. Though it would have been nice to get the option of plugging it in. And I got the cobra neck to fit together with only very minimal light leak (no gaps like some had) by meticulous wire management and some tape Things that do bother me a bit are the on/off switches (these should have been “invisible”). if they had simplified the build, and brought the cost down as a result, they would've sold more subscriptions...it's a hard sell to get even a dedicated collector to give out $2k for something...

Totally agree! Too many times these companies have only $$ in their eyes and forget about common sense.

@@sseltrek1a2bThey were expensive. I had to be picky about the things I bought from them because of it. It would be interesting to see what was going on behind the scenes that caused them to go out of business.

@@roadrunnerj If there's two stands for this, one for the saucer and one for the rest of the ship, I wonder which one that one is for. I'm going to have to rely on you guys outside of the US to see this thing finished. Doesn't look like anyone here will be able to for a couple of years the way things are going to get parts.

I've been through nearly 45 kits and haven't received a single stand for saucer or otherwise. I thought that would be sent out in later builds.

I hate to say this, But the people involved in this catastrophe need to be personally sued !!! The customers that are halfway through a build are never going to finish the model.........

I wouldn't be surprised if they get sued from customers. People are hoping another company will take over the kit but it's such a design nightmare I doubt another company would want to take it over based on all the negativity this kit has gotten.

@@outsider238 I really considered getting involved with the enterprise "D" model and I'm glad that I didn't !! You are right, The kit designs are a total nightmare where you have a lot of the ship not coming together right that produces "light bleed" and the wiring is also a complete catastrophe !!!

@@moose5204 Be very glad you didn't get started with this kit! It should never have gotten passed the drawing board. It was designed with the price point in place first ($2,000) and because the kit would have been cheaper if it was designed properly, they had to add a bunch of unnecessary parts to compensate for the $2,000 price tag. It should have been built first, then the price should have been established from that. They did it backwards.
