The mad home wrecker is my favourite episode, there is a scene where Alasco wheels out the potted plant near the stair case out the door but in the scene where the officers are guarding the front door the plant is seen in the background. The painting of the two horses in the new set was used on so many occasions throughout the series one being in Roger Henley's apartment.

Got to meet Larry Hagman at a motorcycle rally in Ventura, California back in the 90s. He was the Emcee and the proceeds were for liver transplants. I live in the beach town next to Ventura and have been riding here since 1984. Around 1997 I had two East German female exchange students move in to my apartment for six months while they were working a research project with California State Channel Islands University (the former Hotel California state mental facility in Camarillo, CA). One of the gals was a big fan of Larry during Dallas, so I took her up to his estate on my Harley. Larry had a 20,000 square foot mansion on a 43 acre lot overlooking the Ojai Valley. It's a great ride up Sulphur Mountain Road to his place. As we pulled up to the outskirts of the estate, we saw a white convertible Mercedes Benz coming out of the gate. It was Larry Hagman. Jennine (My German roommate) was bouncing up and down on the back of my bike waving and he stopped and waved. I didn't want to act like a pestering fan, so I didn't approach him, but he waited a bit, smiled and waved goodbye - then drove down the mountain. Jennine wanted head back to call her parents back in Germany and tell them all about it.

I have just finished watching the season 5 video of your series. I have been binge watching all 5 seasons of IDoJ. I have wanted to do that for a long time. Your videos really enhanced the experience. I was born in 1959. Jeannie was my first love. Every boy wanted a Jeannie. You did a totally awesome job making these videos. It helped to give the whole 60s SitCom scene a interwoven family feel. I imagine that working at that time in that industry was the best fun a person could have. Thanks for making these videos. I am moving to Bewitched (to see more of the Dr. Bellows house). I think F Troop, McHales Navy, and Hogan’s Heroes are next. I already watched The Addams Family and The Munsters. You know that at the time of The Addams Family and The Munsters, a viewer had to choose which one he would watch. The times matched up. During the summer reruns we were outside playing at that time. When Batman came around, we had to find someone who had a color TV set. Good times.

The last episode filmed (power outage) and the poker game weren't the only episodes shown out of sequence. Jeanie and Tony marrying CHANGED the show, and the producers and writers were not able to adapt. Bewitched is proof that a married couple sitcom with Jeanie and Tony could have worked out well even though being married changed everything. For one thing, Roger wouldn't have been playing for Jeanie as a bachelor male pursuing a single woman prey--both as a genie and as a woman. How would that have been handled--the friendship between Tony and Roger? You touched on the Bellows' being part of the stories--I point you at Bewitched again. Then there would have been more of Jeanie's relatives and her genie world. Yes, there were possibilities.

Great presentation on all the oddities videos. Love em all! The final weeks of the season 5 were a jumble of NBC pre-emptions. Otherwise 'Jeannie and the Hurricane' would have ended the season which would have made more sense, and would have been the best episode for the finale. 'Jeannie and the Chili King'. That episode was supposed to air on April 14th, (kicked off for Apollo 13) but aired instead on May 12. (not May 26 as reported incorrectly by IMDB) 'Jeannie and Four of a Kind' was originally supposed to air on April 21st but was bumped due to news reports of Apollo 13. It then was rescheduled to air on May 19th nearly a month later, after the "Hurricane" episode had already aired. Sources 1970 issues of TV Guide. Strangely enough the card shark "Four of a Kind" episode was really the final first run episode aired on NBC, with the Chili King airing a week before! For some strange reason the syndication placement of those two shows reversed them, so that Chili King became the final episode and remains that way to this day. Phew!

In "The Mad Homewrecker", why didn't Dr Bellows notice that "thing" in Tony's office and ask why it was there and how it got there?
@outsider238 Жыл бұрын
He did. Major Nelson told Dr. Bellows that he"loved" it so much that he wanted it in his office even though Jeannie blinked it in there. Don't forget that if you watch these shows on commercial TV, they have about 6-7 minutes cut out of them since the show ran longer with less commercials back then.

Jeannie has, what we would now call, a perception filter. So while you can technically see her, she's not invisible, but like most Genies she doesn't remain on or in your mind. Thus you forget meeting her, sort of like the Devil in the Witches Of Eastwick, or the TARDIS in Doctor Who. In the appearance of the Jewelry store, that would have taken 20 minutes or so to change out all those props. The camera was locked down, but if you take a freeze frame of just before the blink and just after, you will see Barbra is in a very different position than the previous frame. It works for the most part because the framing on the door doesn't change. The way this was typically done, and you have to remember this was before video villages and video playback on sets, the actor would freeze, and a piece of glass would be placed in front of the lens, then they would draw some marks on this glass to mark her position. Then she would get back into place based on the marks, the glass would be removed, and they would continue to shoot. This was very common on Bewitched where large changes were made in a scene during her lip twitch.
@outsider2382 жыл бұрын
Very interesting! I didn't know about the glass trick. That's a great way to deal with a switch that would take a lot of time to change out. I'm assuming they used a similar technique for when Jeannie blinks Tony and Roger from Cuba to the back patio. Thank you for the excellent information! 😁

Found another one in "The Wedding". After Jeannie and Tony blink themselves away from the photographers at NASA at the beginning of the episode, there is a zoom/push in shot of Jeannie's bottle in its new nook above the fireplace in the new redesigned house because that's where they end up (in the bottle, because Jeannie is crying and distraught). At the END of the episode, before we see them watching the film of the wedding in the bottle, there is another zoom/push in shot of the bottle in the OLD house set on the little writing desk/hutch thing they used to have the bottle on, as opposed to the nook above the fireplace. They must have used an old cut - but then....why not just reuse the same shot of the bottle above the fireplace that they used earlier?

The problem with season 5 is the order of episodes. It was a mistake to put the wedding in the middle of the season. It's a peak moment; after that things will go down. I'd have put more filler episodes, then the two-parter where they get engaged, then all the episodes of them engaged and the wedding as a season finale. That way be would have gotten the episodes of them married in a sixth season, with hurricane Jeannie as the season finale and series finale. (The budget one could be cut out though; It might be the worse episode on the whole series) The wedding itself doesn't bother me, it was a logical development for their relationship. It could just be shown in a more attention-catching way. My problem with the budget episode is that most of the things Jeannie is supposed to not know and learn in that episode are things she'd already learnt during difference episodes of the first two seasons. Now on "See you in C-U-B-A", The biggest goof to me as an Spanish speaker is the fact that the Cuban guy has a Mexican accent. 😂

For me the problem with Hurricane Jeannie is that it was written by James Henderson, who was writing simultaneously on I Dream Of Jeannie and Bewitched. The problem I have with his scripts is that even though most episodes of his script call for Jeannie to be the cause of a lot of problems towards Tony he never really wants her to be the main villain of the story, so instead he never let Jeannie be the blame at the end of the episode.

Emmaline Henry played much older than her age on this show. They gave her the two-tone white hair treatment, but in reality, she was only 2 or 3 years older than Barbara Eden (so in her 30s). Meanwhile Dr. Bellows was in his 50s. That's why she has no wrinkles or brow furrows compared to him.

The story of Tony having to call down the 2 astronauts down is pretty clunky in the story sense, but at this point in the show’s history, nobody really cared what happened, because of the network mandated marriage of Tony and Jeannie. Season 5 isn’t a season I go out of my way to watch, but Hurricane Jeannie is the best episode of the season. It’s sad that Hurricane Jeannie wasn’t aired in their proper order, instead they were aired backwards in release order, Chili King was filmed first, “One Jeannie beats 4 of a kind” filmed second, then Hurricane Jeannie was filmed last, Hurricane Jeannie wasn’t supposed to end in a dream, the bottle breaking was supposed to end the show, but because NBC aired those episodes backwards, they filmed the dream sequence to not break continuity.

In the new house segment the narration missed a fact/blooper. When Jeannie asked Tony if he liked the house in a magazine he had shown her she blinks that as their new house. But her bottle was already on the shelf in the picture in the magazine. Obviously they took a picture of the new set with the bottle already on the shelf and used that as the magazine picture. Sad you aren't going to do more vids. 😭 Please reconsider. btw, I think you got the marriage thing backward. The writers where instructed to marry Nelson and Jeannie because the series was running unusually long and the producers knew it was ending and wanted to tie up that loose end.

@@outsider238 good enough. Back before DVD's I used to tape all my favorite shows on VHS tapes. They did not include the episode that had a rock group looking for an old abandoned house to stay in and practice without fans interfering and found 1313 Mockingbird Lane. They were The Standels who called Herman "the cat with the flat head". I have the episode recorded and will somehow get transferred to a disc. Hopefully. Same for the Wild Wild West. There was an episode that had Dawn Wells that too I have recorded so I know I'm not nut's. Of course there more than likely blocked by licensing or releases which is the case of the show: Tour Of Duty when it was on the prime time lineup it was great because they played actual music of the 60's. They would open with Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones and throughout the show play various songs by the original artist. So I got the DVD series set and was horriblely disappointed ☹️. The songs were replaced with stupid Hollywood music. That made my VHS tapes more valuable if I can get them transferred to DVD's only problem is I missed 2 or 3 episodes. Damn.
