I think everyone welcomes visitors as long as they don’t overrun the place. For new neighbors moving in from someplace else, they will be welcomed as long as you assimilate, and don’t expect to change how the existing neighbors live. The old saying, “When in Rome live like Romans” is really true.

Most Americans immediately adopt Aussies as friends. Our cultural similarities really come out when we're together.

I call BS. The main takeaway is if someone new to any area tries to assimilate into the local way of doing things everyone is welcome. Nobody wants a busy body to come in with their outside views and change things from the norm. This is true of anywhere in the world.

This guy is not an expert on every state. He makes some wild claims about all of these states. I've seen several and people outside of the US should not pay attention to people claiming to know everything about every place.

I'm from the mountains in east Tennessee. We tend to say we just want to be left alone to mind our own business. But that doesn't mean we don't like people or that we're not friendly. The crucial point is the interpretation of the word 'alone'. We don't mean the physical state of being alone. We mean more along the lines of 'Just let me go to hell the way I see fit without pissing in my ear about it'. Yes we're friendly and love to talk as long as you're not giving unwanted advice, telling us what to do, or trying to explain to us why our way is wrong.

New Hampshire is a small New England state with a seacoast, but some parts of the state are quite "insular". My Brother and his wife used to live in New Hampshire less than two hours drive from the coast. They had more than a few neighbors who had NEVER seen the ocean. People who came from anywhere other than the mountains of Northern New England were "Flatlanders" !

Surprised that my state, Tennessee, isn't on the list. There's been a trend the last few years of people leaving blue (Democrat) states and moving to red (Republican) states. Some states without state income taxes (Texas and Tennessee are two), low prices and lot's of land for cheap. After covid, people could work remote and realized they didn't have to live in LA or New York, crammed-in with miserable traffic and crime - they could buy some land, build a house and live somewhere cheaper but still make a ton of money. Locals fear rising costs with all the people coming in, shifts in culture and politics.

As long as my neighbors don't let their dogs bark all the time, don't boom their car stereo at 2am, and don't rev their engine at the crack of dawn I don’t care where they lived before they became my neighbors. Some of these comments are from some very judgy people and maybe they need to take a long look at themselves. 😢

Americans do not dislike Australians. The important thing to know about the US is do not move anywhere in order to change the local lifestyle. People live where they live so that they can have the life they want. California and New York refuse to accept that fact. I am a native New Yorker and when I moved to Florida a few years ago, I did not mention NY at all. The native Floridians only knew I was a New Yorker because of my accent. No one ever bothered me about it, but they were more excepting when I stated that I am not a crazy liberal here to destroy Florida.

I agree with the video guy. Too many outsiders moving here bringing their politics. Just stay out of our state. I live in the west and it’s getting too crowded. Used to live in NH. Man, the natives don’t like outsiders there much either. I wouldn’t mind moving to some of the states listed but they are mostly cold. I wouldn’t want to live in N. Dakota. Too cold! Good one Lyle. Sounds like you live in a nice area in Australia.

"Just stay out of our state." In the US, we have freedom of movement between states. If you don't like freedom of movement, perhaps you'd be more comfortable living in N Korea.

You can add North Carolina to the list. We are full! So many outsiders have moved here that locals can’t afford to pay their property taxes and are losing the land that has been in their family for generations. Nowhere in the state has the infrastructure to keep up with the population growth. The area where I live doesn’t have adequate roads, housing, schools, etc. yet people keep coming here. The mountains are being deforested because people want the beautiful views, but the views are disappearing because of the number of people moving in. And, there’s always the problem of people from outside moving here and then trying to make it just like where they moved from. As he said, we’ll host you as tourists, but then you need to go back to where you came from!

What he means by "outsiders" is Californians. No one likes Californians. We raise tend to raise prices and turn voting from red to pink, or even worse, blue. Not to worry about being Australian, Americans take an immediate shine to them, as well as Brits and Canadians. We're all kissing cousins.
