In PlayStation all stars (PlayStations smash bros like): You need to collect exp orbs to use your super moves which are the only way to kill your opponent, usually you can do this by hitting them, and the way to prevent your opponent doing the same is by blocking. Sly cooper can’t do this, instead he turns invisible, this is inservice to his master thief origins, if he is able to do a combo from behind a player, some of their exp is transferred to them directly. My favorite example of unusual fighters is Koishi Komeiji from Touhou's fighting game installments. In Hopeless Masquerade, Koishi doesn't instantly perform her attacks, instead she stores them and uses them automatically when certain conditions are met. (For example, her long range grab activates when she hits her opponent with another attack) In Urban Legend in Limbo and Antinomy of Common Flowers, Koishi's auto attacks now happen as soon as the input, but now they are stronger in certain conditions. Needless to say, it took Koishi mains some time to figure her out. Edit: I forgot to mention, they are aerial battles because everyone can fly, which is already unusual for a fighting game.

I want to add Hanataro Yamada from Bleach Shattered Blade (aka "that silly medic boy from the anime"). In a game where you use your sword for whick combos and hurt your enemy, his sword HEALS the oponent and only his specials deal damage. You can use abilities to charge your super meter, but healing the enemy charges it better, which makes your sword awaken and become a scalpel (it makes sense in canon) and become able to finally damage normally. The scalpel has THE worst range of the game, and an average damage, but the reason why you use it is because once you've awakened your blade you can unleash the second strongest move in the entire game, that being a giant explosion/energy slash that covers about 4/5 of the screen. Only the final boss' ultimate attack deals more damage.

So here are the examples that I could think of, even if I'm not sure they're different _enough_ to qualify. The first is the character Manaka from the game Aquapazza. What makes her different? None of her attacks are on purpose. Her entire move list consists of her carrying a stack of books and tripping, slipping and generally being a klutz, only hurting her opponent on accident. Her heaviest attacks involve her accidentally knocking over bookshelves that fall onto her opponents or falling over causing the stack of books to go flying into the air, becoming deadly projectiles. Hakumen from Blazblue is unique in that he can't do any special moves without a resource called Magatama. While other fighters might have resources they use to bolster attacks like Izayoi's Zero-Type gauge or a hand full of moves with limited uses like Bang Shishigami's nails, Hakumen is unique in that he can't do any special attacks at all, the only resource available to him are his normal attacks and a defensive counter that requires his opponent to hit him in a strict window. To put this into perspective, imagine if Ryu from street fighter could only throw his hadouken 3-4 times and then had to recharge. Hakumen recharges Magatama slowly over time, or when successfully landing a counter, encouraging a thoughtful, patient style of play because access to his better tools is so finite. And last but not least Angel from the King of Fighters. Sure, she may not _look_ that unusual as fighting game characters go and if you were to simply _watch_ footage of a pro playing her it wouldn't be readily apparent what's different about her as you'd see a fighter punching, kicking and throwing their opponents but surface appearances would be deceiving as anybody who's ever _actually tried to learn to play_ Angel might tell you. That's because taking a deeper look under the hood would reveal something called the "Unchained System" or "Unchained Circle System" a set of mechanics wholly unique in their complexity to Angel which could be described as the super saiyan version of a "rekka", or at least they could be if words accurately did the concept justice. Google "Angel unchained circle system flowchart" for a more accurate idea of what you're dealing with and brace your mind for the fact that there are 7000 unique paths through the unchained circle system. She's pretty renowned among fans of the series for drawing new players in with her appeal before making the game look as daunting as possible. Good luck with that, is all I'm saying.

Also from Guilty Gear, Happy Chaos has like 3 different meters you need to manage: The normal Tension meter that everyone has, a concentration gauge, and the number of bullets in your gun (because he also brought a gun to a sword fight, and most of his moveset - including an entire button - is centered around just shooting his opponent wherever they are on-screen.) Not even Elphelt, the OTHER gun-wielding character, is as complex (though she's probably the reason Happy Chaos has to juggle three meters just to shoot a gun)

Yoda from soul caliber. He’s to low to get a hit on and when he uses his attacks he just jumps around the screen like a mad man. He was so unique he was banned from tournaments.

Could we talk about the fencer from divekick? I know it is already a weird fighting game, but he’s the only character to bring a sword to a one hit KO fighting game!

He had a win condition that had nothing to do with the rest of the game as well. That character was nuts!

I personally think kirby qualifies. It's just that he's been in the roster from the start and we already expect him, but all his b moves grant him a spot on this list.

@@SquintyGears We're talking about down B moves, not the rest of the moveset. Also, she kisses people to get their powers in the fighting games she's in, which can be considered sucking them out from her victims. (also Kirby doesn't suck enemies off, he swallows. Know the difference.)

@@sinteleon it was a sex joke way to referring to it... We all know how it works in game.... How does that level of obvious humor go over your head? Soul Calibur is a host of a lot of unique fighting style, but 2 of SC characters stand out. Voldo and Dampierre. Voldo, on all 4's, on his legs only, forward facing or backwards and rolling all over the place. Dampierre because... Dampierre.

Doctor B was awesome. They let us demo fight in Software Ect, (before they were bought out by Gamestop) and Dr B was hilarious to play as, someone would go to throw a punch, press button to lie down. They get close, kick to the face. He also had a Yoshimitsu move where he'd stab himself with his remote control and if your opponent was close enough it would damage them too.

All I have to say is this: that one time when the Soul Calibur series included Jedi (Yoda), Sith (Vader), and undecided (Starkiller). In a game where your ranged attack options consist of a chain sword, that one guy who has guns, and throwing a shield or bladed ring, standard weapon kit consists of 15th to 18th century melee weapons...force powers in general are just plain unfair. NOBODY ELSE HAS THAT KIND OF RANGE!!! ...No, I'm not still bitter about never being able to beat any one of those three in SCIV...
@devinspencer16782 жыл бұрын
Don't forget that due to Yoda's small stature, High attacks never hit him unless he's jumping. Makes him hands down the most unfair character in that game.

So the most unique fighter has got to be One Punch Man from his own game. Just like it sounds, and just like in the source material, he wins every fight in one punch. But also just like in the source material, no-one tells him what's going on so he shows up late to every fight! The game becomes about surviving a 2v3 battle until Saitama can arrive and save the day

Some of the anime characters in the _Tatunoko vs Capcom_ game are not as unknown to western audiences as you might think.... Ken the Eagle/Ken Washio mentioned @ 10:20 is from an anime from the 70's called _Gatchaman_ in Japan (rebooted in recent years). This original show was dubbed into English & released in the 80's as _Battle Of The Planets_ - the character was called Mark in the US version & voiced by a well-known radio commentator, Casey Kasem. It was a staple of after-school TV along with other huge animated shows like ThunderCats, He-Man & Transformers. 👍

Man, really makes me wonder what would happen if Disney makes a brawler out of their television animation shows; can you imagine fighting asymmetrically (or something close to it) as either Huey, Dewey, & Louie (the 1987 and 2017 iterations), Kim and Ron, Phineas & Ferb, Dipper and Mabel, Wander and Sylvia, Star and Marco, Anne and Sprig, or Luz and Amity (face it, if you're also a fan, you're going to enjoy playing as this battle couple; maybe even pit them against the two other battle couples here for a makeshift Death Battle of sorts, minus the death)... that would be a huge blast. Yeah, tag teaming is most likely a possibility, considering the themes of friendship, love, teamwork, and cooperation in their shows.
