@@treehugger0241 At least with Slowpoke Tails, although you're cutting-off a part of a Pokemon, it does not feel the pain of getting it's tail cut off, and it regenerates quickly that tail it lost. You're not killing the Pokemon for food. It's a real shame Slowpoke isn't real, I hear how delicious it's tail is, and I want to give it's tail a taste. I think it's become something of a tradition at this point. The early games had a lot of insane stuff in the pokedex, but then that was likely a result of limited time and resources. But since then the weirdness of the Pokedex entries has become a big joke within the community, so I'm guessing the devs that write them are allowed to go wild on purpose.

In my headcanon those backstories are what happens when you let ten year olds write things that natural scientists, biologists and pokemon behavior specialists should write. Also I love the treasures of ruin. They are all literally pure negative emotions in the shape of animals that are hell bent on destroying everything in their path. They are basically the closest thing to actual demons in the pokemon world and I love it.

I don’t know what’s funnier, Luke’s peeved “that’s just f**king Minecraft!” or Ellen’s deadpan “oh look it’s my sleep paralysis demon”. I love these videos, and the “Who’s That Pokémon” jokes are always my favourite bits. Honestly, all of them are unsettling since it’s gone open-world, I haven’t played any Scarlet/Violet but in Sword/Shield there was always something a bit off-putting about turning the camera around to see a Machamp or whatever charging towards you with intent.

Well, the Adventures/Specials manga certainly does. Right out of the gate, by the end of the first volume we get attempted murder of a minor by an adult (at least 3 times. Granted it's Team Rocket doing the murder attempts, but still...), illegal experimentation (on Pokemon by Team Rocket again), wild Pokemon attacking with intent to kill, possession of corpses via Ghastly (zombie Psyduck will live in my nightmares forever), possession of a trainer plus trainer's Pokemon via the same Ghastly, and a decapitated Arbok (courtesy of Blue/Green Oak's Charmeleon). And that's just the first volume of the first arc with Red, Blue, and Green. Naturally, I adore the manga due to this willingness to engage with the dark side of Pokemon. Of course, it also freely engages with the silly side with such things as a Blastoise acting as a jetpack for it's trainer, and with it's sweet side as in everything the trainer Yellow does ever.

"This hat is made of a man and a woman, who used to make videos on a video platform about creepy Pokemon, until they were one day found by some of the creepiest Pokemon who made a pact to make them part of this creepy universe and then turned them into a hat for a Bulbasaur to wear." 1:50 - It gets even worse than this, actually! The whole "entire towns get enveloped in them" is based on a real-life problem in the desert areas of the U.S.A. where certain winds can blow _thousands_ of tumbleweeds into towns, at which point it's like getting snowed in due to a freak blizzard except instead of piles of frozen water it's piles of _highly flammable clumps of dry, thorny sticks piled up against the houses of everyone in your neighborhood._ Literally the only thing that surprised me about Brambleghast is that they don't learn any Fire-type moves or at least have some sort of Hidden Ability to reflect this.

Oh, Bramblin does have a "face" - it's those two "eye" seeds floating inside that flip around to "blink". Brambleghast does add branches in front to act as a "mouth".

I don't have a scary Pokémon to relate, but I do know that Brambleghast covering entire towns isn't hyperbole. In America, tumbleweeds are an invasive species that can easily overwhelm small towns and bury them, and tumbleweeds are also spiky and the heaviest can weigh up to 13 lbs (≈5.8 kg). You have to burn them because the tumbleweeds drop seeds everywhere and can bowl people over if you let them.

Three lists and they still haven't touched on the slowpoke tail trade, hypno's disturbing behavior, or of course paras and parasect. For crying out loud parasect is forced to place spores on it's eggs, propagating generations of the nightmare.

I love how the commentary in Who's that Pokémon is getting more and more unhinged the longer this list type goes on. Also I want that horses' hair, I don't care how many souls it takes.

Trouncing the small child trainer is all the more satisfying when you DELIBERATELY skip them, then return after becoming champion and catching legendaries, leveling them to 100, THEN, going back and walking into their kine of sight. Hey.... they started it... Heck you can even change the total of their moveset to do something that doesn't do damage and isn't helpful, just to let them try to wear you down, till you run out of PP, ans they are crushed by a single struggle.

Another amusing video about the darker side of Pokemon! Though I'm admittedly surprised we haven't seen Sinistea/Polteageist on here. Generally adorable, but in fact quite dangerous if you tick them off. And didn't the Gothitelle line have a darker side somewhere? Can't quite remember. Anyway! Hoping we get more videos like these! Thank you so much for all the hard work you guys put in, Outside Xtra! Also, Luke? ... we've been eating Pokemon since gen 1. :P They just dialed it back for a few games before reminding us that food is food, and Pokemon can be occasionally delicious.

The lore around the Pokedex itself is pretty nebulous, but I like to think that the crazy entries are either the Professor's trolling the protagonists and testing if they're actually paying attention (especially with the fact that you'd think we wouldn't have to re-complete the dex every game, at least for mons from older games), or that the dex itself is being snarky (while it went away quickly, the anime did open with Ash's dex having a snarky personality, plus nowadays the dexes all have Rotom in them).

The bramblin one reminds me of the tumblebleeds from Deadlands. Deadlands is an old west supernatural horror tabletop RPG. Tumblebleeds tumble along until they find prey and roll towards them like tumbleweeds until they get close enough to attack where they grapple you, puncture you with their thorns and drink your blood. They're closely related to bloodwire which disguises itself as normal barbed wire until you get close enough then it whips out, wraps you up, punctures you with thorns, and sucks your blood. Apparently a bloodwire that has recently fed looks like a clump of bloody seaweed. Eew. I love Deadlands. It has some great monsters, like rattlers (think graboids), cankers (body-horror nightmare fuel), and even dragons! In addition to the regular western archetypes like desperadoes, gunfighters, and mysterious strangers, you can play magically enhanced chi masters, spellslinging gamblers, shamans, holy rollers who can call down actual miracles and undead harrowed who got kicked out of boot hill. Deadlands and it's spinoffs are probably my second favorite RPG setting.
