The best tip to anyone new to the series is try each weapon. Seriously, go to the training area and try all 14 weapons. Pick one that fits you, there really is no best weapon. Which ever one feels more comfortable is the best for you. Watch a few vids on the weapon you pick to learn the combos. Then study each monster to learn its moves and get used to the movement and dodge mechanics. It will be really clunky at first but once you get it down it will be smooth as butter

One small note here. Unlike MH World, capturing in MH Rise does not necessarily net more rewards, if fact, it can often times grant only 2 capture rewards. However the reward tables are different from MH World, so some parts are locked behind the capture rewards, while other parts are locked into carving rewards. Do check the hunter notes if anyone is after a specific drop.

Only tip I would disagree with is changing the camera to always be focused on the monster, but that's just personal preference. I feel like a lot of monsters are harder if you lock on like that, similar to Dark Souls- the monster controlling your camera can mess you up, especially because some weapon attacks require you to input a direction opposite to where you're facing

For begining players looking for a more defensive option, the Lance and Gunlance have the best blocking in the game. Additionally they both deal slashing or crushing damage based on where you hit. The type of damage it deals is based on whichever of the two is higher on the area you strike making the weapons very forgiving regardless of where you strike.

When farming a particular material from a monster (after hunting it successfully at least once), check your notes. Capcom gave you these after so long, it would be a shame to not use them. Some materials have a higher chance of dropping when you capture the monster, some have a higher chance if you carve the monster apart after killing it, and some *only* appear in one of those circumstances. If you're not looking for anything in particular, capture or kill as you like. The notes also list hitzones, weapon and elemental weaknesses, ailments, tips for fighting them, and (in a roundabout manner) what parts can be broken.
@KatotsuSama3 жыл бұрын
Rise's monster notes pale in comparison to World's breaking info notes. I liked how it told me outright what parts can be broken and how many times, AND the resistances of broken/defended parts when relevant. Rise does a better job with drop rates though, and status resistances. The notes are insanely useful and should have been mentioned!
@KBKarma3 жыл бұрын
I have no idea why they give weapon and elemental damage per region, ailment effectiveness and build up, and material drop rates and sources, but *don't* list breakable parts. It's such a weird omission.

With respect to anyone here who says 'pick one weapon and stick with it' or something similar in the comments, I'm going to have to disagree. I've always been of the opinion that the monsters, to borrow a D&D term that I picked up from watching the Oxventure videos, always roll with advantage. Yes, you can hunt every monster with every weapon, but I've always found that certain weapons are better than others for certain monsters. As such I feel that you should always tailor the hunter to the monster, and not the other way around. That's why I would suggest completing the tutorial for every weapon before you go out and start hunting anything. Being the merest of mortals I don't know if the weapon tutorials would be like in World where you just wail on log until you're bored, or if they will be actual structured missions like they were in every other game, but doing this should give a new player a good idea which weapons they are better at using. While not touched on directly in the video, I feel that weapon sharpness should have been talked about. Every non-ranged weapon has a sharpness level (yes, even the blunt ones for some reason) that can effect how much damage you do against your prey. This level decreases as you fight, and if you're not paying attention can make your quest harder. I recommend sharpening your weapon when you either start bouncing off the monster, or you hit orange level sharpness, which ever comes first. Another thing a new player should pay attention to is their armor and weapon stats. Unlike games like Dark Souls or Bloodborne where the player's stats are raised independent of their equipment, in Monster Hunter a character's stats are completely tied to their toys. So you can't just farm small monster after small monster and eventually be able to stand toe to toe with an elder dragon. Another thing to note about weapons and armor is that their abilities are tied to the monsters that they are made from, so once you pick up a lone Kezu scale from a gathering quest, for example, you can check with the blacksmith to see that, at least in prior games, the Kezu is weak to fire damage but resistant to thunder.. So when you do finally have to face one you can bring along a fire based weapon which should make the fight go easier for you. On an unrelated note, for anyone worried about multiplayer, if this game follows how the other games went then the entire storyline, if not the entire game, came be completed solo. I believe that the monster's difficulty scales, no pun intended, to the number of hunters fighting it. My apologies if this long winded comment is off putting to some. While I watch plenty of KZbin videos, I'm not one actively interacting with them so I am unaware if there are any sort of unspoken rules that I may have violated with this comment. If this is the case then I once again apologize, but the Monster Hunter series is one of my favorite games, and after watching this video I felt a very strong desire to comment.

To many people who are intrigued by Monster Hunter: Rise but is afraid to get into seeing that it is a franchise with deep lore and history, or that you're afraid that you might not enjoy the game due to its steep learning curve in terms of weapons and mechanics, don't fret! One of the best things for newbie hunters is to literally participate in the story and the online community. The story is very forgiving, and always understands that not every single player have played the game before, and hence tries to help you grow and learn alongside your actual game character. Furthermore, the online community is VERY friendly towards newbies! Each one of us has been through the learning phase of the franchise, and every single one of us had a veteran randomly pop into our session and teach us how to play. Alongside youtube videos and forums, it is very easy to pick up new weapons, combos and armor sets.

I am currently loving the game but I don't take any of the advice, I do pretty well in soloing pretty much everything and I use a bow only. I suck at timing so I can't get the timing down very well for any of the other weapons besides blowguns and they're a little too slow for me But I am doing fairly well, I just go on a lot of expeditions to get a whole bunch of monster parts to up my equipment a lot. Currently higher difficulty monsters usually take me about 6-7 minutes to kill, And I have got it down to an art of how to trap a monster. if you use bows or blowguns go on lots of expeditions because you're gonna need materials to craft Bullets and coatings and pay attention when you craft a new weapon and double check and go through all the tabs because it will tell you what ammo and coatings they can use it can be really useful to have multiple bows or blowguns that way if your going on a hunt to trap something you want a bow or a blowgun that's capable of tranq ammunition or sleep coating, some advice from somebody who has kind of made it very difficult on themselves to actually do anything without a lot of prep.

Recommended Starter Weapons Luke: Sword and Shield, Double Blades and Hunting Horn Me: Hunting Horn?!? Yes, lets start a new player with the lowest DPS weapon in the game so they can think every other weapon is amazing when they switch to it later. For anyone who didn't like the three newbie weapons they presented in the video, I'd suggest the hammer. It's a few simple combos and charge moves for an even simpler concept: hit the monster in the head. Stuns make for an easier fight, and you practice the important skill of tracking with your eyes and mind where a certain monster part will be. Happy hunting!
@Kursakai3 жыл бұрын
What's also important to know is that a "newbie" weapon is by no means inferior to other weapons. Dual Blades are great for cutting tails. Sword and Shield is a banger alrounder with which you can just stick to a monster like a burdock and constantly whack away at it. Also you can cut tails with the sword part and stun monster with the shield part in theory. Most of the time monster don't have enough health though. Both weapons are good for status effects and elemental damage due to the high attack speed which helps with the status buildup! I currently main Sword and Shield cuz it's such a fun weapon to use.

To any new players #5's starting video is the WORST way to use a mount. You'll wanna take the time to attack other monsters, even if they aren't your target as they will drop loot, roughly 4-5 per monster. They do the right thing by ramming one monster into another to make sure you can get the drops from both monsters, but when on the 2nd monster make sure you keep attacking for easy loot drops. Also the monster's move depends on three things and two of those things won't matter/apply. One if they are flying at the moment, two if they are powered up in some way, and three and the one that matters the most, if your holding backwards or not.

Who cares how good you think you are? Just do what you have fun with bro! Respect yourself. 💪🏾

@@enjoyer2227 Yeah, that's the point, thought. It's not really fun to slog through a game you suck at, especially considering how much late-game content you miss out on if you're not good enough

@@abigfavor Im just glad one of my favorite colorful monsters is getting into another game. Granted, I wouldnt hunt it frequently as I have some old MHW story respect for the beasts. Surprisingly they are quite intellegent and recognize friend and foe.

I feel like dark souls is a good way to prepare yourself for this game. I have never played a monster hunter game but sounds like it

Here for the Ellen puns 😋. They make me giggle.

The reason I’ll never play monster hunter is that I get the sense that I’d be plagued with the overwhelming feeling that I was the bad guy and these monsters are just trying to live their monster lives.

If any of the monsters looks like a Colossus, stop and think.

Today I was playing and was like, "Oh dang. What if the big fluffy bunny that's been terrorizing everyone just wanted to go belly sledding and have giant snowball fights?" And then proceeded to fight it anyway.

Alot of monsters are doing their own thing, but some of them definitely threaten mankind *COUGH* Fatalis *COUGH*
@enjoyer22273 жыл бұрын
I always saw that as a really corny and strange mindset to have. If anything, the humans are the ones trying to live their lives. The weakest monsters are pests at best and the strongest can destroy an entire country in a single day if left unchecked.
