As much as I love both World and Rise, I really want to go back to 4U and maybe play some Gen again. 4U is the game I started with almost 10 years ago and I honestly wouldn't mind playing through it again for the third time to gold crown. The thing that's rough though is the gameplay difference going backwards. Rise offers a lot of verticality and movement that I've gotten really used to from playing it a lot; world has the clutch claw and the slinger (I miss the slinger in Rise tbh); generations has the different hunting styles and being able to play as a palico (I just found it funny); and 4U introduces the mounting system along with insect glaive. Similarly with weapons we lose some things that are just fun to have going to previous games like the gunlance movesets that my friend enjoys a lot in Rise. If I had it, I definitely would play more 3U because the underwater combat system albeit difficult at first was just fun to have and I want to fight the Great Ceadus that my brother loves as one of his favorite monsters. All in all, I think it's just preferential on what monster hunter game to play and enjoy. They're all good.

Great video! Personally, my view of it is this: World, as one of the mainline games, is made more to be an experience. Something you sit down and get immersed into. Rise, as one of the portable games, has a more arcade feel. It's streamlined for you to get into the action quicker, and that action is more over the top. Very bold(and based) of you to say you prefer Rise over World while everyone else is proudly saying they dropped Rise to go back. Honeslty for me I like both games equally, seems like I'm one of the few that can enjoy the fast paced arcade-y gameplay of Rise and the more immersive, grounded and weighty feel of World on even footing. I look forward to MH6, knowing that it might be closer to World in feel than Rise. So at this point it's just preference, and for me the biggest reason I prefer Rise over World is the monster roster. Rise has a far more diverse selection of monsters to hunt, I like its original cast of yokai and horror themed monsters more than World's originals, and it brought back old monsters I like that didnt make it to World, such as Miztsune, Astalos, the Magala family, Amatsu, and my favorite monster, Valstrax. Also can't forget the surprise inclusion of Espinas.

@itsagabe5 ай бұрын
MHW doesn't require that much grinding, tbf. You can wear the same armor set up until late high rank, when it might be a good idea to switch to something with skills that better suit your weapon and playstyle. Some people keep the defender set equipped up until Iceborne, which is the point when you really need to get better gear. I went through all of the base game with little to no grinding and now that I'm in Iceborne, I still find that I don't need to scout for specific materials all that much thanks to a plethora of features that streamline the process (safaris, the Argosy, the plunderblade, melding, etc.). Playing with others can also make the quests go by in an instant, which is very easy to get into thanks to the SOS system. World might be slow and methodical, but that doesn't mean it's a slog 😆
@luckysgi-5karrow3786 ай бұрын
Newbie started with Rise here. I actually think all the menus were very intuitive somehow maybe it's due to massive experience of the devs from 2 decades of work. There was a ton of stuff to assault my eyes, but not much of it was overwhelming. Many things were simple to grasp at a glance and just needed a bit of time to learn. It felt like deja vu. Then again I really like hardcore games and am used to this stuff in other games I play. My friends who got me into MH tried getting me into World but after seeing some gameplay from newbie to pro, I just couldn't get into how slow it felt. Rise came out with much more mobility and definitely caught my attention. I can't get into exploring huge maps but not have much in the way of traversal skills. Rise is a plus with the traversal stuff being helpful in combat also, including the lovable palamutes. Plus (from friends) hearing the QoL of Rise over the older games is great. It really sounded like Pokemon (gee another monster game) syndrome where old games' tedium are improved to make way for newer things... And didn't make much sense to have them be as tedious as they were in a actuality.
@elk34076 ай бұрын
The tedium of the older games was actually more like animal crossing. It was cozy and relaxing, juxtaposed with the fights which were punishing and strategic.... but also meditative I actually really don't like how fast Rise is because it's too much. I want my meditative experience back, where it felt like dancing. Rise is like Generations Ultimate, fun but in a sugar rush way. Too much rots your teeth and makes you feel sick.
@gamewarrior91075 ай бұрын
you just summed it up. Rise is like brainrotted ADHD Monster Hunter.@@elk3407
@tofuteh23485 ай бұрын
there is a fine line between 'removing tedium' and removing mechanics integral to the franchise. I'd say things like instant/ faster gathering is a clear example of removing tedium, but removing the gathering and hunt preparation aspect of the game is just removing core mechanics and watering the game down. and keep in mind Rise is not responsible for the vast majority of QOL changes from traditional MH to new MH, that was MHW. Rise just made the hunter more overpowered than they already were in World.
@elk34075 ай бұрын
@tofuteh2348 I have to disagree on one point. Fast gathering WAS removing tedium with World. Rise took it a step too far, and now certain things like mining are EXTREAMLY unsatisfying. It legitimately feels worse even though technically it's less work. If they were gonna do what they did, they needed to change the animations for mining. Also, I disagree about removing prep. I've never properly prepared in any Monster Hunter title outside of endgame Frontier and 2nd generation. I legitimately didn't use mega potions in 3U until the end of G rank because I was too lazy to farm honey, and I didn't need them. Sure, maybe the lower end of average and below average player preps less in 5th gen... but genuinely, I think it was the right call to make it easier for the lower end of the skill range have an easier time with World introducing MH to a mass audience, while not affecting those of us on the higher end of the skill range since those elements had already been watered down by 3rd and 4th gen. Well, thats as long as MH Wilds does what I think its doing and brings back more of a gen 2 vibe with a focus on the preparation and hunting. I genuinely don't think that the World hunter was any more OP than 3U or 4U, and most of that vibe can simply be attributed to proper scaling.... which actually made anything more than duo harder than 3U and 4U, while making solo easier.
@tofuteh23485 ай бұрын
@@elk3407 i think you misread- i said faster gathering removed tedium, or am i misunderstanding something? World hunter was OP to me because of just the abundance of stuff you had to deal with the monster. And dont get me wrong, its not bad on paper but I feel like it allowed newbies to just brute force their way through LR and HR and not needing to fully learn their weapon or the monster. Mantles essentially becoming free buffs like temporal just being a 'press square to get free dodges' button, in addition to already existing mechanics like toppling the monster by hitting the legs, mounting, flinching, add on new things like environmental traps that give you yet another free topple and then clutch claw giving you ANOTHER topple. Then you have the healing issue where you virtually never run out of potions or even use them on a quest because theres just so much other stuff that heals you on the map and your palico. On the very rare occassion that you do actually run out of potions you can just fly back to camp and infinitely restock your items like nobody's business, making gathering pointless. But most importantly, my issue with World is less about difficulty and more about how the game muddies the great combat of traditional MH (and then Rise tries to be a different game entirely) Ive been playing since FU and im still not as good at the game as other veterans, so even when 4U, GU and World came out the lowrank village quests were still challenging for me- but in World I realized I could just cheese my way through so many of the fights by not learning the monster. The only monster in the base game i can think of that forced me to learn a monster's moveset was nergigante

As a newcomer to the series, I started with World. I enjoyed World, but I jumped to Rise when I picked up a Switch. I faced the same issues you faced in World: confusing levels, and eventually it gets frustrating when you need to keep tracking and chasing down monsters. It's not terrible, but again, as a newcomer to the series it add another layer of challenge on a game that's never easy to begin with. Rise was a lot more accessible, and the improvement to mobility and combat was huge (and even more in Sunbreak). I've finished the base game and am just grinding MR levels to unlock the last few monster variants. I will go back to World and Generations Ultimate now that I've clocked in over 250 hours into Rise on PC and Switch, and the post-game challenges are starting to feel rather unfair and not fun (when getting up to Gaismagorm was a really nice balance between fun and challenge). I'm actually starting to feel competent fairly confident as a hunter, unlike in World where I always felt I barely scraped by. As a place to start the series, Rise was perfect.

I have been thinking of picking up one of the games in the series as a little Christmas present for myself and I had a quick question regarding both games. If I decide to pick up a game should I pick up the game with the DLC or just the base game first? Rise is $30 with all dlc and World is $20. I will probably get both games eventually anyways but I would also be mostly if not entirely playing solo since I just find that more challenging and difficult. And lastly which of these 2 games are best for a beginner to get into? I put maybe half a dozen hours into the MH4U demo on the 3ds years ago but besides that I have not touched the series and am basically a complete beginner. With all this said I was just wanting your opinion with these factors in it. I did pick it up on gamepass for a little bit and played Rise a good amount on it but not enough to see the endgame or even to fully enjoy the combat as it was only for a week or so. Anyways thank you for taking your time to read this essay of a comment. So its just a thing of playing what you enjoy more. Rise is my favourite, I like dogs, the sick wirebug attacks and the fast paced combat makes my Dead Cells addict brain really happy

I don't hate one or the other but as a 100% noob to the series Rise looks like it's 5 years *older* than World. Like it came out decently successful with cheesier graphics and partial content present so you get to grind the same monster over and over to Get Bigger Number. (like in Diablo 4 or New World) Then some years later World would come out and offer the full experience with tracking, meaningful movement and a coherent well... world. That it's actually the other way around does not compute.

I think the issue is with switch skills making the game much easier. Rise is so so so much more forgiving with the amount of mobility you have to correct your mistakes. World is so much more punishing and makes you put more thought into the actions you make because recovery from them is very hard if you mess up.

See the "put more thought into your actions" doesn't quite apply when you basically approach the monster the same mind set in world. Find a open area, trap it, beat it to death. There's no actual skills like hunter arts or switch skills so you'll be doing the basic combat loop over and over. (This is coming from 120 hour world player) also having to time I frames isn't fun either, unlike MHGU which allowed you to do a perfect dodge on some weapons and hunter styles.
@strider71985 ай бұрын
@@shirez1654 Doing the same basic loop combo tho is most of the mh series tho lol, tho I will say MHGU is a perfect combo of what world and rise try to accomplish. GU has variety in its move sets, yet the movement itself is still clunky, forcing you to still think about your positioning and when to push for the attack. It also has its hunter arts abilities that are strong but you have to work for them by attacking the monster and build up it's meter, instead of waiting for a cool down like for the mantles or wirebugs. Even then, the hunter arts themselves are clunky and lock you in place of the animation, again making you think when to actually use the ability and positioning. You can also only use a certain amount of arts depending on your fighting style, so it's not too OP or overwhelming with all those skills like rise does.

Irecently checked my Rise data on PS4, after playing World for quite a while (~375H), I suddenly rralized, Rise' menu and mechanics resemble the old games.more than what World established. That's why when I switched from Rise to World last June, I couldn't find the loadout section at first, unlike how I remeber it, it was in the menu just like in Rise. Now, I appreciate both games...

Nice perspective. I have to say I enjoy rise more than world myself as well. I totally get the strengths of each, but I find that I can get more hunts completed in the same time in rise over world. When trying to find a specific low drop rate part, I want to clear hunts fast. The first time I am encountering a monster or mission, it is fun to experience the build up and flow in it's entirety. On subsequent runs though I kinda just wanna get to the good stuff. Rise does a good job on the first run, but makes repeat runs much more streamlined.

World was my first game in the series and I played it for a little bit and didn't hate it but it did feel really slow. Having played rise/sunbreak on both switch and ps5 and with a new understanding of the series and how weapons work and with a different mindset and expectations I'm going to give world another shot her soon, especially with a year+ wait until wilds.

I like your style. You got a good voice for this line of work. Enjoyed the video and your take on things. I know what you mean going from world to rise and trying to go back to world. I love world. Over 1000 hours. Then i jumped to rise. Put over 600 hours in it. Then decided I liked world more. Jumped back into my old character and felt like I had lost all my agility and knowledge. So I made a new character and started with a weapon I had never used before. (Gun lance) as i spent those over 1800 hours across both games only ever playing great sword. I fell in love with world again and now have a hard time going back to Rise. It’s pretty much two different games. Both are great, and defiantly hard to go back and forth. Just play the one you like the most or play both. Lol. I agree with what you are saying about the time it takes to really learn a weapon. All those hours in greatsword and I still am learning and improving all the time. To master a weapon you have to master a craft as you would a job. Hell it might take 10 years idk but it’s been a ride. Love the franchise either way. Dig the video. No hot takes here, just a good old fashioned opinion and justified unquestionably. The way it’s meant to be.

I also felt like I was crazy every time I saw one of those videos. I also was introduced to the series via world, and I love world, but rise is the first game I actually completed (as much as one can complete a monster hunter game). I've fought every monster, crafted every set, even did the anomaly grind to the point where I can craft every deco. I went back and played most games in the series and I think GU is my favorite (despite the bloat, the individual hunts are the most fun to me) and to me rise feels like more of a continuation of that style of game than world. I've recently started playing world again on steamdeck and I do still enjoy it a lot but there's just an undescribable quality I don't get from it that I get from the older games and rise. I can understand if your only mh games are world and rise you would prefer world, but as someone who's a fan of the full series rise just scratches the itch better for me

I'm not a series veteran, but had occasion to hunt a few monsters in MH Freedom Unite from PSP and my feeling is that MH Rise is more of a successor to that idea of a game than it is to MH World. I do like both games because in the end both are still Monster Hunter, but I'm currently playing World over Rise. Not necessarily because I like World more, but it's just where my friends are at the moment. And it's hard to be playing both titles alternately since they are both so similar yet so different at the same time.
@tofuteh23485 ай бұрын
as someone who is a veteran i disagree. MHW has far more in common spiritually with the earlier generations than Rise. Freedom Unite had great emphasis on ecology, even to the point of making fully cinematic shorts for a lot of its monsters. The only thing I can say Rise has more similarities with it over World is the simpler graphics and a smaller hub. Everything else from the combat to the tone is VERY different from Freedom Unite.

The combat in Risebreak is the best it's ever been. People can enjoy the slower combat of World and the other games, but the switch skills in particular just give the combat so much depth and risk/reward. what i like about Rise/SB is the comabt too. It made me try out various weapons and feels a bit more fun to do. The smaller maps does help in not getting lost but it does feel constraining at times. With two Monster Hunters with different (and almost maxed out) specializations I wonder what Wilds will introduce next and most importantly „learned“ from its predecessors.

Im a MH veteran from MHFU, and also played world and the things i miss the most is the challenge in gathering, hunting that the game used to have before all the QoL changes, they sure makes the game a lot more comfy but takes away a lot of the accoplishment of making progress into the game, i didnt played rise for the only reason that the game style shifted into destroying monster rather then hunting them, by saying this i mean there is a lot of mechanics that makes the hunter very agile but doesnt match the challenge of the monsters, sure in the endgame there might be some challenge but the slow peace that MHFU was more appealing because you had to grind a bit each time the difficulty increased to match the armor to the monster difficulty and from what i felt from MHW and from what i could tell, all the latest MH is that the time you need to build an armorset or weapon is not rewarding as it was in the older generations, mainly because there wasnt so munch affordable mistakes like now, no infinite potions, no drinking while moving, sharpness was a struggle but it felt like a human trying to fight a monster and not a DMC style action game, but i mean these are just taste tho i wish they could remake MHFU remastered with the graphics of world and i could play it for ever i swear.

I'm personally a MHR fan. I tried World, and it was definitely fun, but I didn't like how long hunts took - especially later on. I really don't like the clutch claw, if I'm being completely honest. It's frustrating to get the hang of, and absolutely mandatory for G rank. As for Rise, it was my very first Monster Hunter game, and the first game I managed to conquer. I have my best sets made and I have most monster patterns memorized. I feel very accomplished and strong in Rise. Sure, I can develop that same thing in World, but I suppose the pacing is... I do like a lot of the stuff in rise (other than the buff birds) but one thing I never see people bring up about rise over world is one very small change that makes a huge difference in how the game feels. the movement is tighter in rise. start running in a straight line in both games, then start swerving left and right, you make the turns noticeably sharper in rise, without it feeling like you're pivoting unrealistically. I hope in the next game they replace the string bugs (or whatever they were called) with an actual tool that does most of the same stuff, I like what they did mechanically but I'm not a fan of them thematically. and as a sword and shield main, it just feels so damn good in rise.

Feel free to call me an old timer since I grew up with MHFU I'd personally could do without neither the crutch claw nor the wirebugs. I got used to both but never... Enjoyed them. I did however enjoy the attempts to make a more proper difficulty curve rather than making the game too hard from the very beginning, as well as meal effects that vanish on carting no longer being a thing on RIse (the rewards decrease always made sense to me but never the meal effect vanishing unless you had some variation of Foodie). Being able to change/restock mid-quest is something I also have no problem with (I wonder if this is my hottest take on all of this). I also wish I could go back to MHFU's lack of appraisable items, so literally every piece of equipment and decorations were crafted from materials rather than appraised. This basically meant there's ALMOST zero blaming on luck (the luck part just being the materials) for not being ready enough for a quest. I also like that for Rise isn't as black & white for its endgame equipment as World... Or more specifically Sunbreak vs Iceborne. I'm sure other MH games had this problem but it seems that none were as severe as Iceborne. I think in a way, the whole being able to use but never feeling right at home with them when it comes to crutch claw, wirebugs and hunter arts. Sounds similar to The Huntsman, now that I think of it. In fact when I went back from Rise to World I adjusted to the lack of wirebugs INSTANTLY. The slinger and crutch claw did take a lot to readjust to in constrast.

Great video, I came to World a few month before Rise released from freedom 1 and 2, cuz frick them for releasing all the other monster hunters on nintendo hardware and to me I like both the games equally. World offers what I already know from MonHun, grounded combat, straight forward weapons even tho they got some new moves and there are a lot of new weapons to me. Honestly think the Charge Blade and Switch Axe are the coolest things I have ever seen in monhun. To then a few month later get into Rise and commit to playing it for a few hundred hours. At first Rise was very weird to me, especially as a hammer main having your damage on brutal helmbreaker, I swapped a lot of weapons and trying to the used to the wire bugs stuff. The game is very very overloaded with in combat systems which put me off at first so after around 60 hours I quit basegame and came back to sunbreak which actually made me enjoy the game again and thats when I started to actually liking it in its own way of being a super overloaded power fantasy of a monhun instead of a grounded mon hun like world. Both are amazing games in their own way, everytime I play world I don't miss the palamute or the wirebugs and everytime I play Rise I don't miss the simplicity of combat and how grounded it is of world. It's just like how I still enjoy freedom 1 and 2 in their own way even if they are hella clunky.
