Anxiety makes us question our decisions and ourselves, and worry about the future. It fills our days with dread and emotional turbulence. But what if we understood that anxiety is mostly a trick of the mind, constantly triggering alarms even when we’re not in any particular danger? Dr. David Carbonell introduces some of the most powerful techniques to help you respond differently and start to overcome panic, anxiety, worry, and phobias.

I am a mental health therapist specializing in anxiety and this is truly such a helpful video! He gives so many practical tips for how to actually work with anxiety in the moment, and gives a great rationale for why changing our relationship with the fear itself is so critical. Would recommend this video to anyone struggling with anxiety or clinicians wanting to better communicate how to work through anxiety!

The Panic Attacks Workbook has changed my life completely. I'm not fully recovered (agoraphobia/panic disorder), but I'm a hell of a lot further in life than I was 3 months ago! I recommend this workbook to everyone I know who deals with panic. Thank you David Carbonell.

Hey, It’s been 9 months, how are you doing buddy? I’ve had panic attacks and anxiety with agoraphobia for almost 3 years now. I tried doing his workbook but the exposure part is so hard for me that I don’t even try. I feel like I’m gonna make a fool out of myself.

@@zadddy94 Hi I have been working with the panic workbook and have been doing exposure therapy. But at a VERY slow rate. So right now I am just doing exposure therapy with going to work. Cuz I am still getting panic attacks sometimes there. Then when I am really comfortable with work, I will try something more challenging like a social situation, then a sit down event, then hopefully one day my most feared is public transit (where I fear getting stuck). Peter Levine talks about titration and intergrating back to things slowly. I am also working with a trauma therapist which has been very helpful with the shame associated with panic attacks.

Chapter 5 is amazing. Exactly what I do... here is something terrible that is not happening now...but i will worry about a "What if", and then pretend that it is." That is exactly what I do!! I love the mad lib connection, fill in the blank of what future thing I can put in the blank and then begin worrying about it.... anxiety is so exhausting... This video has been my bible. I try to watch it every week or so, so I REMEMBER the skills!

First time I’ve listened to one of these online lectures about worry/anxiety where they actually give you constructive ways of dealing with it. Mostly you just get descriptions of what worry and anxiety are, but nobody tells you what the hell to do about it! I like this doctor’s informative style. He would have been able to say a lot more if the other guy hadn’t kept repeating everything though! I’ve become a dreadful worrier over the last 12 months and I found this extremely helpful. I HATE all the worrying that I do and I need to know what to do to address and overcome it. I am going to try to remember and follow all this advice. Thank you.

So I've been having health anxiety for little over a month. I always feel like I might faint or have a heart attack, and I've gotten checked by the doctor. They said everything was fine, so I had no reason to worry. But I still do since I keep on having physical anxiety symptoms like pressure on my chest, heart palpitations, lightheadedness ect. I'm gonna start doing the opposite of ny gut feeling to see if it helps because right now as i'm watching this seminar I feel slightly better. UPDATE 12/10/2021 I now feel like I'm 85% recovered from my anxiety issues. The last 15% is pretty tough to get over. I have chest discomforts that still worry me from time to time.

Yes i recently got this book and like all things it takes practice, yes those feelings and thoughts are terrible many people think they're going crazy and soon need to be hospitalized those are just thoughts where one adds to those fears, practice accepting and remember that you are safe, don't add second fear it's not easy but this doctor makes it easier to understand and remember not to let yourself trick your mind with thoughts and scary feelings

I’ve had health anxiety my whooollleee life ( I remember being 5 worried about dying) . I’m now 33 and the chronic anxiety now transitioned into panic attacks that lasted wayyyy too long ! This information is super helpful and I wish I had CBT therapy a long time ago as maybe I would’ve been able to prevent the panic disorder . I just recently started Zoloft 25mg, super low dose and it seems to have taken the panic away after a month or so. I’m still anxious here and there but as long as that panic is gone I’m happy with staying on the lowest dose while informing myself of these practical responses to anxiety in hopes to ween off the meds! I appreciate these videos and will buy the books asap!

Does anyone feel constant anxiety like all day? Like from the time you wake to sleep. Might not be all day panic attacks. But the anxiety is constantly there? Like you're just stuck in your head all day? Constantly scanning your body. I've been dealing with anxiety for 7 yrs. But the last three months it's just crippling

Many have been in your place 7 months is a long time to suffer this way hopefully you've seen your doctor many people don't like meds but they do help relieve symptoms and you can then practice dealing with anxiety and not fearing your thoughts and feelings it takes time and yes even after the panic attack you'll feel tired and fatigue i believe that's because of the adrenaline rush you're getting please be patient and good to yourself

Read or listen to Dr. Clare Weeks book, help for your nerves. People become afraid of their symptoms and get caught in a fear adrenaline fear cycle. I also have been having anxiety. It starts with high stress or trauma. The way out is to face, float, accept your symptoms and let time pass. It sounds simple, but it's hard to accept the symptoms. Our nervous systems become sensitized and the brain becomes on full alert. We have to retrain our brains by not reacting to the symptoms we have. Let them be there, no matter how uncomfortable they are and float through the anxiety by not tensing up. I find myself feeling very hyped up. I go into mindfulness and slow down. That helps. Sometimes our brains will fire adrenaline just by a thought it thinks is a threat or by memory. It's a process, but that is the way. We are suppose to feel nervous when we have a anxiety disorder. It will eventually calm down, once we stop reacting to the anxiety symptoms. We should not be afraid of our symptoms because it's only our nervous system trying to protect us.

@17:00 I laughed so hard at myself. Knowing that my compass is always dead wrong made me feel safe facing these situations. I mean, if facing my anxiety is the right path. Then I should feel safe while doing it. No fatal consequences will happen when you learn a new skill.

Another realization, the same goes with procrastinating. When you procrastinate until the best moment to start with something. You are fooling yourself with a broken compass. Go in the opposite direction, and start with it right away.

Sometimes we ignore the problem then the anxiety get worse. For example, I have problems driving in the highway and I should find a way to overcome that issue by driving earlier with less traffic start off there then progress and go in more traffic and taking on more traffic with deep breathing GPS etc.

Very important question, my intuition (might help here, might be pointing in the wrong direction 🤷🏼‍♂️) is that fear-based obsession might be workable; desire-based obsession might be a different story 🙏🏼🕊️. Do you (all of "you" 🙏🏼😇😂) have thoughts about that semantic?

Haven’t heard the whole interview yet but how does one cope when one grew up in an anxious extremely dysfunctional family and the years of anxiety accompanying that. Years and years of living with political unrest whilst bringing up a family and all that goes with that. Always managed to cope in the past but now find myself in a situation where finances are a huge problem and the state will not be supporting you, but in fact are taking all they can. What I guess I am saying is that many people have anxiety about everyday life, but how does one cope with real problems of safety in a violent society, financial issues, health issues. I have had very unsatisfying experiences with psychologists who tend to pathologise a person and completely minimise issues. I wish my anxiety was about getting on an escalator, spiders, social anxiety.
@the3as139
@the3as139 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. They really do minimise the real life problems that ARE happening. I can’t see a way around it. Childhood trauma, growing up in total isolation, finances, stalked perpetually physically for 5 long years by a violent ex. Impersonated, burgled, My brothers death, his 17 day old corpse. The list goes on…Yet, it’s “anxiety disorder” Is it really when it’s a very human normal response to all the actual things happening to us! Im a recluse… I hope you find some resolve, I hope I do too, one day ✌️
